Abstract

This present paper studied the students’ demands of a reading class at a private institution in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatera. The needs are separated into two elements, namely students’ needs and wants. This research was a descriptive study employing a qualitative method with the data collection strategy using the mix of the closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The respondents in this study were 27 students from 2021 at English Education Study Program of Universitas PGRI Silampari who had taken academic reading subject. They were given 25 closed-ended questions and three open-ended questions. The results showed that 88.14% of the students agreed that the topic variation in an academic reading class was importance, the Importance of Tasks in Academic Reading was categorized as “important” (81%), Topic for academic was categorized as “important” (63.5%). There were 86.19% students expected to have the improvement in the term of topics in Academic Reading Materials. There were 74% students wanted the improvement in the aspect of tasks. Then, 56% of 27 students wanted the improvement in term of skills. In conclusion, the students agreed that the topic should be realistic, relevant, and diverse. Moreover, in consideration of the needs of the pupils, the topic should be diversified, engaging, and current. Key word: Academic Reading, Needs Analysis, University Students

Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the types of Indoglish and to describe the factors of using Indoglish on Instagram captions. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method and the data was collected through documentation and observation. The data were analyzed by using Farihah and Suhartono's study of types of English. The factors of using Indoglish were analyzed using Holmes's theory. The findings of this study indicate that 1) there were two types of Indoglish including a) Indonesian elements in foreign languages, namely phoneme appearance, word addition b) Foreign Elements in Indonesian, namely adoption, and translation with classification into several categories including; Indoglish language translation form of verbs category, Indoglish language translation form of nouns category, Indoglish language translation form of adjective category, Indoglish language translation form of adverbs category, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 2 (two) words, and Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 3 (three) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 4 (four) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 5 (five) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 6 (six) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 7 (seven) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 8 (eight) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 9 (nine) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 10 (ten), Indoglish language translation forms of clause categories and Indoglish language translation forms of sentence categories. 2) The factors of using Indoglish in the Instagram caption by Indonesian female singers found there were four, namely the solidarity-social distance scale, the status scale, the formality scale, and the referential and affective function scale.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas IV SD Negeri 86 Rejang Lebong bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah setelah diterapkan Model Pembelajaran Team Games Tournament (TGT) secara signifikan tuntas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV dengan jumlah 19 siswa yang terdiri dari 8 siswa laki-laki dan 11 siswa perempuan. Teknis Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes berbentuk soal pilihan ganda. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan dapat diperoleh nilai rata-rata tes akhir 85,26 dan persentase siswa yang tuntas 86,47 dari 19 siswa. Hasil analisis data mengunakan uji z menunjukan bahwa Zhitung= 6,78 dan Ztabel=1,64. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil pembelajaran Matematika siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 86 Rejang Lebong setelah penerapan model belajar team games tournament (TGT) secara signifikan tuntas.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di kelas 5 SDN 44 Lubuklinggau. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan listening skill dasar dengan metode yang menarik dan menyenangkan agar para siswa dapat dengan mudah menguasai bahasa Inggris. Para siswa diberikan sosialisasi dan pendampingan listening skill dengan mendengarkan lagu anak-anak, mengisi missing lyrics, dikte dan permainan kata. Ada 5 tahapan yang dilakukan pada pengabdian ini yaitu observasi, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, penerapan dan evaluasi. Hasil pengabdian pada masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa para siswa kelas 5 menjadi antusias dan tertarik terhadap bahasa Inggris terutama listening skill karna di sekolah ini belum ada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Melalui pengabdian ini, penulis berharap dapat memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan keterampilan listening siswa SD melalui metode-metode yang menarik dan menyenangkan. Dengan dukungan dari berbagai pihak terkait, penulis yakin bahwa upaya ini akan memberikan dampak positif yang berkelanjutan bagi dunia pendidikan di tingkat dasar.

Abstract

Speaking remains an important but difficult skill for EFL learners due to the fear of being assessed and not having the opportunity for hands-on practice. In this study, 24 peer-reviewed articles from 2022–2025 were examined. The study employed a qualitative descriptive library research approach. Based on the findings, role-playing significantly enhanced students' confidence, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency by offering a secure and engaging setting. Furthermore, it reduces language anxiety and promotes imaginative and cooperative activities. It is primarily implemented through the use of structured group activities, reflective follow-up, and realistic scenarios. According to this study, role-playing enhances students' social and psychological growth as well as their language proficiency. Consequently, it is strongly advised that role play be used frequently in EFL classes.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategy in enhancing students' speaking skills at MAN 1 Lubuklinggau. The study employed a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. A total of 44 students from class XI.1 were selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using a speaking performance test. The findings revealed that the average pre-test score was 44.59 and increased to 79.77 in the post-test. Statistical analysis using a paired sample t-test showed a t-count of 21.32, which was significantly greater than the t-table value of 2.016 at a 0.05 significance level. These findings support the conclusion that the PBL strategy significantly improves students' speaking skills and fosters a more engaging learning environment. Abstract

The research aims to find out what challenges are faced by English teachers at MTs N 1 Lubuklinggau to implement the Curriculum Merdeka in learning activities. This study used an interview as the instrumentation. Techniques for gathering data include observation, literature review, and interviewing and analyzing the data using descriptive qualitative methods. Research findings reveal what challenges teachers face, namely challenges in developing teaching modules, implementing Curriculum Merdeka learning, using media, classroom management, learning assessment, and Curriculum Merdeka training. Through this research, it is hoped that the findings can help English teachers cover the challenges in implementing the Curriculum Merdeka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan mengetahui bagaimana cara guru menerapkan pembelajaran Tematik Kurikulum 2013 dan apa saja kesulitan yang dihadapi guru saat menerapkan pembelajaran Tematik Kurikulum 2013 pada SD Negeri 2 Raksa Budi. Penelitian ini menggunakan reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan untuk menganalisis data. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif untuk menjelaskan dan mengetahui bagaimana guru menerapkan pembelajaran tematik Kurikulum 2013 di SD Negeri 2 Raksa Budi. Penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Guru mampu menerapkan tahap perencanaan. Karena ada kurikulum 2013, guru telah banyak mendapat manfaat dari Buku Guru yang disediakan oleh pemerintah. Ini termasuk membantu mereka memilih dan menetapkan tema. (2) Pada tahap pelaksanaan, guru telah menggunakan pendekatan saintifik, yang berarti mengamati, menanyakan, menalar, mencoba, dan berkomunikasi. (3) Pada tahap penilaian, guru telah melaksanakan ketiga komponen penilaian: sikap, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan. Guru menggunakan buku guru sebagai pedoman untuk membuat dan menentukan tema dan dalam tahap implementasi guru sudah menggunakan pendekatan saintifik dengan baik.

Abstract

This research analyzed the types of speech style used by Steve Harvey in his talk show videos. The objectives of this research were to describe types of speech style based on Joos’s theory occurred in Steve Harvey’s talk show videos. The method of the research was a descriptive qualitative. The technique for collecting the data was audio-visuals. The researcher used videos talk show of Steve Harvey uploaded in January 2024 on Steve TV Show YouTube channel. There were 9 talk show videos uploaded on January 2024. In this research, the researcher found some types of speech style contained in talk show videos consist of 177 (90,77%) casual styles, 9 (4,62%) intimate styles, 5 (2,56%) formal styles, and 4 (2,05%) consultative styles. In conclusion casual style 177 (90,77%) is the most dominant used by Steve Harvey in his talk show videos in January 2024. Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Speech Styles, Talk Show

Abstract

Adanya pandemi Covid-19 membuat pemerintah Indonesia menetapkan kebijakan untuk belajar dari rumah melalui sistem daring. Hal ini mengakibatkan kesulitan belajar bagi siswa. Motivasi belajar siswa mengalami penurunan sebab tak memadainya bimbingan dan arahan orang tua ketika menjalani pembelajaran di rumah. Dengan demikian, diperlukan sebuah kegiatan pendampingan pembelajaran di rumah guna membantu membimbing serta mengajar anak-anak jika mengalami kesukaran pada pembelajaran dirumah. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilaksanakan di Desa Singosaren, Kecamatan Banguntapan, Kabupaten Bantul, Yogyakarta berupa pendampingan bimbingan belajar di rumah bagi siswa sekolah dasar. Kegiatan ini diselenggarakan untuk siswa PAUD dan SD yang berjumlah 10 -12 siswa. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan selama masa pandemi ini terdiri atas tiga tahapan yaitu, tahapan persiapan, tahapan pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Hasilnya, siswa antusias dalam proses pendampingan belajar, hasil belajar siswa meningkat, dan semua tugas dikerjakan dengan baik. Dengan adanya pendampingan belajar ini bermanfaat membantu siswa yang kesulitan belajar secara daring di masa pandemi Covid-19.
