Abstract

This study is a systematic literature review  (SLR) that aims to analyze the effectiveness of the integrated Socio-Scientific Issues (PBL) Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model or PBL-SSI in improving students' scientific abilities in chemistry learning in secondary school. The background of this research is the dominance of traditional lecture methods that fail to strengthen 21st century critical thinking and skills, demanding a change in a more contextual and participatory approach. The SLR procedure follows systematic, transparent, and replicable guidelines, with literature searches via Google Scholar (time range 2020–2025) using the keyword "SSI; PBL; Chemistry Learning". Based on strict inclusion criteria, as many as eight articles deserve comprehensive analysis. The results of the synthesis of findings show that PBL-SSI has proven to be significantly effective in strengthening students' science literacy, critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, and science process skills. The highest effectiveness is found in materials that have a strong relationship with social and environmental issues, such as acid-bases and green chemicals, which dominate the application of this model (about 25% each). The conclusion states that PBL-SSI is a very relevant approach to create meaningful and competency-oriented chemistry learning in the 21st century.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the history, development, and humanitarian social movement model of Lembaga Dai Peduli from 2014 to 2025. Founded by alumni from the Middle East, the institution integrates da’wah and social action through the principles of dakwah bil hal (action-based preaching) and idkhalus surur (bringing happiness to others). The movement focuses on two main areas: international humanitarian assistance for Palestine and domestic programs, including disaster response and the empowerment of dai in Indonesia. The distinctive feature of this movement lies in its positioning of dai not merely as religious messengers, but as multidimensional humanitarian actors operating at the grassroots level. Employing a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, this research reconstructs the historical trajectory of the institution, analyzes its strategies for integrating da’wah and humanitarian work, and examines its contributions to religious social movements in Indonesia. The findings indicate that Lembaga Dai Peduli has developed a hybrid model of faith-based humanitarian activism by institutionalizing grassroots-oriented dai empowerment and fostering transnational solidarity for Palestine. This model strengthens the role of religious actors within contemporary humanitarian social movements in Indonesia. These results contribute to broadening the analytical framework of religion-based social movements while also offering practical insights for the development of similar grassroots initiatives.

Abstract

Tahlilan is a tradition deeply rooted in the culture of Indonesian Muslim society and is often regarded as an obligation to commemorate the deceased. For some people, tahlilan is not merely a religious activity but also reflects social dynamics in community interactions. Apart from its religious values, the tahlilan tradition also has social and economic impacts, particularly for families with financial limitations. This study employs a qualitative field research approach conducted in Desa Buluh Cina to examine tahlilan as a socio-religious practice and to explore how social pressure and economic burden shape its implementation within the community. The findings reveal that tahlilan in Desa Buluh Cina functions not only as a medium of collective remembrance but also as a site of social expectation, where participation is often driven by communal pressure rather than purely individual piety. Families with limited economic capacity experience a disproportionate burden, leading to a shift in the meaning of sincerity in worship from voluntary devotion to socially conditioned obligation. At the same time, adaptive practices emerge to negotiate between religious values and economic realities. These findings demonstrate that the transformation of tahlilan reflects broader socio-religious changes, where cultural continuity persists amid tensions between faith, social norms, and economic constraints.
