Abstract

Natural resource management that does not pay attention to the principles of conservation of natural resources and the environment will have negative implications for environmental sustainability. With the discovery of gold on the coast of Tamiouw Village at this time, residents' activities have shifted to gold mining activities in the coastal area of Tamilouw. This study aims to determine the impact of gold mining on the physical environment in Tamilouw Village, Amahai District, Central Maluku Regency, as well as to determine the impact of gold mining on the social and economic environment of the local community. The research was conducted using non-experimental methods, namely exploratory descriptive, field observations and literature study. The results showed that gold mining carried out in Tamilouw Village uses mercury in the process of separating gold from sand, although there are also some people who carryout traditional processing. What some people are worried about is that the disposal of mercury waste is not carried out according to the required procedures, so that it will have an impact on environmental damage. The existence of mining activities does not affect the social aspects, namely education, health and age and gender; while from the economic aspect, it also contributes to increasing people's income. Abstract

The condition of mangroves in general appears to be at a high critical level, because the dangers of using mangroves come for other purposes. The use of mangroves without paying attention to the rules of conservation gives a negative impression on the existence of mangroves today. Utilization of mangrove biological systems is increasingly widespread, not in terms of utilization but more in terms of the use of mangrove stands, both traditional and commercial. The burden on the mangrove environment is enormous and continues to grow, resulting in changes in mangrove range and land use. The level of public information that is still unsure about the importance of maintaining mangrove management will affect openness and support in its management. This condition also occurred in Masika Jaya Village, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province. The existence of potential mangrove assets, most of which are not known by the community at Villa Masika Jaya, thus affecting the community level

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the role of coastal women in improving the family economy and the impact of the dual role. This study uses a descriptive type of research that describes a situation in a qualitative approach. In this study using data analysis techniques Miles and Huberman models such as: data reduction, data presentation and verification, as well as data collection such as: observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that along with economic and population growth, it will certainly have an effect on household needs which continue to increase. This can be seen from the increase in the price of goods, the reduced interest from consumers or customers, the uncertain income of fishermen and farmers caused by changes in weather, the cost of children's education and the cost of other household needs. From this problem, if the fishing communities and their farmers only rely on their basic work, then they can only pay for their daily meals and cannot save money to pay for their children's education. so that women take on a dual role that is needed in the family, namely as a side job to help husbands in meeting all the economic needs of the family.

Abstract

Efforts to promote micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) are frequently limited by the knowledge on promotion, particularly because they rely on the word of mouth and the customers are the nearby communities. In fact, advertising on Google Maps is a powerful way to attract more customers. For this reason, the Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM)) aims to train and mentor MSME partners in Rijali Village, Sirimau District, Ambon City in developing Google Maps-based business location tags for promotional purposes, delivered through lectures with elaborated explanation and demonstration. There was a total of 25 MSME partners participated in these PkM activities which took place on October 13 – 17, 2023. After the training and mentoring, there is an increase in the MSME partners’ knowledge and promotion skills using Google Maps compared to their pre-test score. The PkM output results in the MSMEs in Rijali Village being tagged on Google Maps.

Abstract

Women are always identified with only domestic work. In fact, women are a potential source of income for the sustainability of household livelihoods. Moreover, when compared to men, women have a greater level of tenacity, innovation and creativity than men. This condition is illustrated through the diversification activities of fish products which until now have only been consumed as is. The Community Service Team, Department of Development Economics, FEB, Pattimura University provides training and science and technology diffusion. The training was carried out by means of counseling regarding various diversification of products made from fish, while the science and technology diffusion was in the form of fish sauce products. The results of service activities show that fish products that are easily damaged and rotten can be given added economic value through diversification as well as being an alternative source of income for households in the form of fish sauce. Then, women in Mahia Hamlet have the desire to help their husbands earn additional income, but this desire is often hampered by various obstacles such as knowledge of product diversification and marketing.

Abstract

This study examines communities' efforts to address income distribution inequality by leveraging local wisdom mechanisms. Income inequality is observed at regional and national levels and manifests in gender disparities. This research aims to explore how local wisdom, particularly the practice of "picking nutmeg seeds," serves as a mechanism for mitigating income inequality experienced by women. This study seeks to understand women's income distribution behaviors through the lens of local wisdom. Data collection methods include in-depth interviews, participant observation, and focus group discussions (FGDs), while data analysis is conducted using thematic analysis to identify, analyze, and report emerging patterns. The findings reveal that the traditional practice of nutmeg collection functions as an informal insurance mechanism, ensuring the sustainability of household livelihoods, particularly for widowed women in the Negeri Booi-Samahu Amalatu Indigenous community. Furthermore, the research highlights the role of local institutions within the nutmeg farming community in fostering a system of shared prosperity rather than shared poverty. This collective well-being is achieved without the exploitation of community members, including women, particularly widows. Additionally, according to the Saemaul Undong principle, local wisdom strongly correlates with rural development and community empowerment. Through active participation, resource management, and self-reliance, local wisdom is a foundation for sustainable community development and equitable economic opportunities.

Abstract

The composition of regional products according to economic sectors may generally reveal a region’s economic structure, therefore the number of workers employed in the economic sector can be interpreted as an indicator of the economic sector’s workforce absorption potential. The purpose of this study is to identify and assess determinants of labor demand (open unemployment, Human Development Index (HDI), and minimum wage) in the islands, specifically Maluku Province which consists of 11 regencies / cities. This study employed a descriptive-quantitative method, employing a multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that the open unemployment, HDI, and minimum wage have a negative and insignificant impact on the labor demand in the islands. In fact, labor demand issues in the islands were more complex than in continental areas, such as regional egocentrism, which expected the “local community youth” to have priority in the labor demand yet they had no skill mastery. As a result, investing in education through “specialization” of labor was predicted to be critical to the labor absorption.
