Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the state regulates the administration of unregistered marriages (nikah sirri) in Muslim minority communities in Jayapura City, with a focus on the practice of mass weddings organized to facilitate the registration of marriages. Unregistered marriages, which are not recorded by the state, are still found among Muslim minorities in Jayapura. Factors influencing the practice of unregistered marriages include economic limitations, lack of awareness about administrative procedures, and difficulty in accessing official marriage registration services. To address these issues, the Jayapura City government, through the Religious Affairs Office (KUA), the Religious Court (PA), and the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (DUKCAPIL), has initiated a mass wedding program aimed at simplifying the legalization process for couples who have not yet registered their marriages. This research uses a qualitative approach with interviews and observations of couples participating in the mass wedding program. The findings indicate that this program is effective in raising public awareness about the importance of marriage registration. However, challenges remain in terms of legal understanding and the readiness of couples to comply with the applicable administrative procedures. The study suggests the need for increased education about the importance of marriage administration and strengthening access to marriage registration services to reduce the practice of unregistered marriages. With the mass wedding program, it is hoped that all marriages in Jayapura City can be legally registered according to state law, providing optimal legal protection for married couples

Abstract

The practice of reading the Quran is decreasing among teenagers. Various activities have been carried out to encourage teenagers to read the Quran more often. The study was conducted to achieve the objective of identifying the level of frequency of Muslim teenagers reading the Al-Quran as well as examining the level of mastery of Muslim teenagers in reading the Al-Quran. This study was conducted qualitatively. The primary data source of the study is through observation and questionnaires to students of Tun Hussein Onn University Malaysia. A total of 72 respondents among Tun Hussein Onn University students were involved in this study. This sampling technique was chosen purposefully and was not based on probability. We aim the scope of this study at teenagers. The targeted age is individuals between the ages of 16 and 24, comprising Muslim teenagers only. We obtained secondary data sources through libraries, official reports and all related documents. This study found that the level of Quran reading among teenagers is at a moderate level. The level of mastery of the Qur'an is moderate to good according to findings. In addition, this study also found that there are not many young Muslims who master the knowledge of tajwid well. So, this study suggests a study on the level of teacher satisfaction with mastery and appreciation of the Quran among Muslim teenagers. We hope that Muslim teenagers, as well as the government and parents, as well as the media, give better attention and focus to the Quran.

Abstract

Ideally, religious moderation and communal harmony should serve as the cornerstone for building a harmonious social life, particularly in diverse societies. However, the reality reveals that interfaith conflicts and a lack of tolerance still often occur, driven by narrow and exclusive interpretations of religion. This phenomenon hinders the creation of peace and harmony within pluralistic communities. This article is based on qualitative research. The methodology employed is a content analysis of Quranic verses through a hermeneutic approach. The findings indicate that maqasid shariah provides a strong foundation for promoting religious moderation and communal harmony. Values such as justice, welfare, and the protection of individual rights embedded within maqasid shariah can serve as guidelines for creating a tolerant and harmonious society. The Quranic hermeneutic approach also aids in understanding the messages of moderation contextually, enabling practical solutions to the challenges of diversity in modern society.

Abstract

Religious diversity in Indonesia presents unique challenges in managing houses of worship construction, particularly in areas where religious groups constitute a minority. This study investigates the management of mosque construction in Manado, a predominantly Christian city, and church construction in Gorontalo, a predominantly Muslim city. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews with key informants including mosque and church committee leaders, religious leaders, and local government officials, as well as through direct observation and documentation analysis. The findings revealed five critical elements in worship house construction management: planning processes, funding sources, organizational structure, implementation strategies, and evaluation mechanisms. The study found that while both cities maintain religious tolerance, management approaches differ significantly between majority and minority contexts. In Manado, mosque construction faced challenges primarily in financial management and internal organizational conflicts, while in Gorontalo, church construction encountered regulatory hurdles despite facing fewer social obstacles. These findings have important implications for religious policy development and interfaith relations in pluralistic societies, suggesting the need for more structured management approaches in worship house construction that consider both technical and socio-religious factors.

Abstract

Al-Azhar University, Egypt, presents a model of Islamic education that is moderate and holistic, relevant in addressing the challenges of modernity, radicalism, and the integration of Islamic tradition with scientific progress. This study identifies a gap in the previous literature, which generally partially discusses Islamic education in Egypt, focusing on the history of Al-Azhar or primary education, without comprehensively analysing the integration of traditional and modern values, system structure, and state policies. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilising data collection techniques through literature review and document analysis of scholarly journals, academic books, and official reports from the Ministry of Education and Al-Azhar University. Data analysis is conducted using qualitative content analysis methods, which include stages of collection, filtering, coding, categorisation, synthesis, and triangulation. The results show that the Islamic education system in Egypt has successfully integrated religious and general knowledge through a moderate and inclusive curriculum, supported by government policies such as the Al-Azhar Law of 1961 and the 2014 curriculum reform. However, educational access inequality, limited technological infrastructure, and conservative resistance continue to hinder comprehensive reform efforts. In conclusion, these findings offer important lessons for developing Islamic education in Indonesia and other Muslim countries.

Furthermore, the investigation thoroughly explores aspects such as the advancements made by online zakat institutions in Indonesia, as well as opportunities and challenges presented within the framework of Smart Society 5.0. In order to achieve the stated aim, three online zakat institutions were examined in this article namely Dompet Dhuafa, Lazismu, and Rumah Zakat using a qualitative method with content analysis. The obtained results showed that online zakat institutions present great opportunities in the era of Smart Society 5.0, hence, leading to the categorization of Indonesia as a country that supports the achievement of sustainable development. Based on observations, the aforementioned institutions have experienced continuous growth, as well as developed and adopted various innovations through the use of technology while also paying substantial attention to the welfare and needs of the community. Over the years, Indonesia has shown immense potential for zakat, as evidenced by the rising community interest. Abstract

Salawaik Dulang is a traditional oral art of the Minangkabau people that presents Islamic verses containing praises to the Prophet Muhammad, prophetic stories, and religious advice accompanied by rhythmic dulang percussion. Although it functions as an important medium of dakwah, this tradition faces challenges from modernization and the declining interest of the younger generation. This study aims to explore the origins, performance processes, and religious values embedded in the Salawaik Dulang tradition in Nagari Singgalang. This field research employs a descriptive-analytic method and utilizes an ethnographic approach within a qualitative research framework. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with informants consisting of the Nagari government, Salawaik Dulang performers, religious scholars, traditional leaders, and the local community. The findings indicate that Salawaik Dulang began to develop in Nagari Singgalang in the 1970s, inspired by performance groups from Nagari Pariangan. Its performance structure includes an opening, praises to Allah, the core dakwah delivered through cancan chants, humorous interludes, and a closing containing moral messages. The study also reveals that the religious values in Salawaik Dulang encompass three main pillars: creed (akidah), Islamic law (syariah), and ethics (akhlak). Its verses successfully internalize the teachings of monotheism, love for the Prophet, reminders of the Day of Judgment, and ethical values such as honesty, modesty, and the obligations of worship. Thus, Salawaik Dulang serves as an effective medium of dakwah that strengthens Islamic values in the daily lives of the Nagari Singgalang community.
