Abstract

Stunting is the inadequate intake of nutrients from the womb in children until the age of five, which is characterized by stunted height. As a result of these chronic malnutrition conditions, it can systemically inhibit the development of children in the first two years of life so that children become stunted.  This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted at the Sicanang Medan Health Center. For respondent collection, the sampling procedure was carried out using the total sampling technique on stunting data from the Sicanang Medan Health Center. Analysis was carried out with descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression analysis test. The analysis was carried out to find the most influential risk factors for the incidence of stunting cases at the Sicanang Health Center.  The results of multivariate analysis by considering confounding factors showed that the most influential factors on the incidence of stunting were mothers who married too young (aOR = 0.64; 95% CI = 0.21-1.49; p-value = 0.046) and child spacing below 2 years young (aOR = 1.53; 95% CI = 0.22-2.83; p-value = 0.023).

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is still a global problem today. This is demonstrated by the 2018 global data, which indicates that diabetes mellitus is the ninth leading cause of mortality and that the number of people with the disease has quadrupled over the last three decades. This research aims to estimate the magnitude of the impact intervention in giving cinnamon extract based on the findings of several earlier research. Methods: This study uses secondary data sources with a systematic approach utilizing meta-analyses and PICO.  The population consists of patients with type 2 diabetes., Intervention is giving extra cinnamon. The outcome is blood sugar levels. Keywords for the articles searched were as follows: “cinnamon” AND “Diabetes mellitus type 2” AND “randomized controlled trial”. The articles that are part of it. This research uses a randomization-controlled trial study design and is a full-text article. Utilizing the PRISMA flow diagram, articles are gathered. They used the Review Manager 5.3 program to analyze. Results: Research indicates that giving individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus additional cinnamon eating interventions significantly lowers their blood sugar levels (Standardized Mean Difference = -0.74; 95% CI = -1.67 to 0.18; p= 0.110). Conclusion: The consumption of cinnamon supplements has been shown to significantly lower blood glucose levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, cinnamon supplementation may be considered as a complementary strategy in the dietary management of type 2 diabetes, alongside standard pharmacological and lifestyle interventions.

Abstract

Cinnamon is an herbal remedy proven to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Cinnamon contains coumarin, which reduces the blood sugar levels. This study aimed to determine whether administration of a higher dose of cinnamon could lower blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study employed a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design and was conducted at the Medan Denai Health Center from November to December 2023. Participants were randomly selected and divided into two groups: the intervention group, which received cinnamon extract (n= 15), and the control group (n= 15), which did not receive any treatment. The dose was 10 mg/day. Blood sugar levels were measured using a standardized instrument and data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test. Results, before receiving cinnamon extract, the average blood sugar level was 238,80 mg/dL in the intervention group and 225,33 mg/dL in the control group. After cinnamon extract administration, the intervention group showed a significant reduction of 127,73 mg/dL, whereas that of the control group remained at 222,20 mg/dL. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in the blood sugar levels following cinnamon extract administration (p< 0,001). In conclusion, cinnamon extract supplementation can help lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
