Abstract

As part of aging or old age (elderly), general changes in circadian rhythms are referred to as earlier sleep phases. Prolonged sleep deprivation conditions can trigger many health system disorders, from a decrease in the body's immune system, weight gain due to uncontrolled appetite, and decreased level of concentration at work, to decreased patience and mood. One alternative non-pharmacological treatment to improve sleep quality is by providing lavender aromatherapy which will have a calming effect. This type of research is descriptive using a case study approach. A case study was conducted by applying non-pharmacological therapy with lavender aromatherapy to elderly respondents with sleep disorder nursing problems. The instruments used in this study were lavender aromatherapy, observation sheets, and sleep quality assessment sheets for the elderly. shows that there is an increase in the quality of sleep in the respondents. By doing this lavender aromatherapy therapy can help reduce sleep pattern disturbances in respondents. The results showed that there was an increase in sleep quality when patients could sleep soundly after being given lavender aromatherapy, so it can be concluded that there was an increase in sleep quality before and after giving lavender aromatherapy

Abstract

Hypertension is a common degenerative disease among older adults and can lead to serious complications if not well controlled. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as hypertension exercise, are recommended to support blood pressure management. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of hypertension exercise in reducing blood pressure among older adults at the Elderly Health Post (Posyandu Lansia). A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted. A total of 30 elderly participants were recruited using total sampling. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Hypertension exercise was administered in three sessions (February 18, 21, and 23, 2026). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods to assess changes in blood pressure. The findings showed a significant reduction in average systolic blood pressure after each session. In the first session, the mean systolic pressure decreased from 151.8 mmHg to 136.4 mmHg. Similar reductions were observed in the second and third sessions, indicating a consistent downward trend following the intervention. Hypertension exercise is effective in reducing blood pressure among older adults.

Abstract

First-year nursing students are prone to experiencing anxiety during the transition to university due to increased academic demands and the adaptation process. Self-efficacy is considered an important factor in helping students cope with these challenges. To analyse the relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety levels among first-year students in the Bachelor of Nursing programme at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 140 first-year students who were selected using proportional random sampling. Self-efficacy was evaluated using the adopted General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) questionnaire with validity test results of r_"table"   (0.361)<r_"count"   (0.539"--" 0.733) and reliability test result of 0.847, while anxiety was evaluated using the adopted State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S) questionnaire with established construct validity and reliability test results of 0.86"--" 0.95, which means that both questionnaires are proven to be valid and reliable. Data were analysed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The mean self-efficacy score was 40.89 ± 5.743, while the mean anxiety score was 38.09 ± 9.382. A significant negative correlation was found between self-efficacy and anxiety levels (rs = −0.399; p < 0.001). Higher self-efficacy was associated with lower anxiety levels among first-year nursing students.

Abstract

Self-harm, suicidal ideation and anxiety are mental health issues of growing concern among adolescents, including adolescents studying in Islamic schools. This study aims to describe the prevalence and influencing factors of self-harm, suicidal ideation and anxiety among adolescents in Islamic schools. Using a quantitative survey method, data were obtained from 300 students in Central Java through the Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) instrument as well as questionnaires related to self-harm experiences and suicidal ideation, the instrument validity and reliability values between 0.397-0.906. This research use purposive sampling technique and uses univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Spearman Rho-correlation test. Results showed that 25% of respondents had committed self-harm, 15% had suicidal ideation, and 40% experienced moderate to high anxiety. The main triggering factors included academic pressure, family conflict, and lack of social support. This study emphasises the need for early intervention and Islamic values-based mental health programmes to reduce the risk of mental disorders in adolescents. This adaptive programme can help adolescents manage stress through spiritual approaches and strengthening social support.
