Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The landscape of women's leadership within Islamic educational institutions, particularly in the Muhammadiyah community, continues to be shaped by complex challenges rooted in prevailing social norms, cultural expectations, and institutional frameworks that often exhibit gender biases. This context frequently hinders the full realization of female leaders' potential and their contributions to organizational development. This qualitative study, focusing on the leadership of female rectors at Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA), aimed to thoroughly investigate the specific obstacles encountered by these women leaders and to delineate the strategic approaches they employ to effectively navigate and overcome such impediments. Employing an empirical qualitative methodology, data were meticulously gathered through in-depth interviews with prominent women leaders in selected PTMA, complemented by a comprehensive analysis of relevant institutional policies and regulatory documents. The research findings reveal that despite the persistent presence of structural and patriarchal barriers, these female leaders adeptly adopt adaptive leadership strategies. These strategies encompass the crucial strengthening of social networks, fostering highly participatory decision-making processes, and driving significant managerial innovation within their respective institutions. Crucially, these insights underscore the profound significance of women's leadership in Islamic higher education, demonstrating their capacity not only to confront adversity but also to instigate transformative changes in institutional management and substantially enhance educational quality. The implications suggest a robust model for leadership development that integrates adaptive and inclusive practices within faith-based educational settings.

Abstract

The growing demand for pedagogical innovation and sustainability-oriented education has created a need to integrate modern learning models with value-based educational frameworks. In Islamic education, this challenge involves aligning technological advancements with spiritual and ethical principles. However, limited studies have explored the integration of the flipped classroom model and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within Islamic educational management. This study employed a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review. Relevant articles were collected from major academic databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar, based on predefined inclusion criteria. A total of 28 selected studies were analyzed using thematic synthesis to identify key concepts, patterns, and relationships among flipped learning, sustainability education, and Islamic educational principles. The findings reveal a strong conceptual synergy between the flipped classroom model and ESD. The flipped classroom supports independent learning, critical thinking, and efficient use of instructional time, while ESD provides ethical direction related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. When integrated within Islamic educational management, these approaches align with core values such as responsibility (khalifah), balance, and holistic human development. The study proposes a conceptual framework that positions flipped learning as a pedagogical mechanism, ESD as value-oriented content, and Islamic management as the guiding philosophical structure. This integration offers a transformative approach to Islamic education by bridging technological innovation with sustainability and spirituality. It enhances student engagement, promotes holistic competencies, and supports the development of ethically responsible learners. The study highlights the need for institutional support, teacher capacity building, and empirical validation of the proposed framework.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic values into science and mathematics instruction in madrasahs remains a persistent challenge in Classroom practice. While prior studies on Lesson Study have demonstrated improvements in instructional quality and collaborative reflection, limited attention has been given to how such professional learning structures can support the enactment of value-based pedagogies. This study addresses that gap by examining a modified Lesson Study model grounded in the Ulul Albab framework within a school-based action research design conducted over two cycles at a Madrasah Aliyah in Indonesia. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and lesson plan analysis. The findings indicate that the model contributed to measurable shifts in teachers' pedagogical practices, particularly in the design of inquiry-based lessons that integrated reflective and ethical dimensions alongside scientific reasoning. However, the integration process was not uniform; some teachers initially reverted to symbolic or add-on approaches before gradually developing more coherent alignment between content and values. Compared to conventional Lesson Study implementations, the Ulul Albab-based model explicitly structures reflective dialogue around the epistemic and ethical dimensions of the subject matter, thereby extending the scope of collaborative inquiry beyond pedagogical techniques. These findings suggest that Lesson Study can function not only as a mechanism for improving instructional strategies but also as a structured space for negotiating the pedagogical meaning of value integration. The study contributes an empirically grounded professional development model that demonstrates both the possibilities and the practical challenges of translating faith-science integration into Classroom practice.
