Abstract

The aim of the present work was to study the physical characteristics of swamp buffalo population in Kampar sub district, Riau province. Thirty buffalos which were distributed in 5 villages (Kampar, Padang Mutung, Pulau Rambai, Panyasauan, and Batu Belah) were selected by Multi Stage Stratified Cluster Purposive Sampling Method. The selected animals which were consisted of 15 males and 15 females were observed for physical performance and measured for some body parameters. Physical performances observed and body parameters measured included: horn form; color of hair, skin and foot: form of foot and udder; body length, thorax circle, shoulder high, shoulder circle, thorax high and scrotum circle. The quantitative data were tabulated for calculation of means and standard deviation. It was found that about 83,3 % of buffalo population had horn with wider form, 72,3 % hair color of blackish grey, 61,2 % skin color of blackish gray, 100 % foot color of grey, 100 % foot form of well built foot and 100 % udder form of symmetric. The body measurement data reflected that the body development of the buffalo in Kampar closely related to their original population in India.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi penampilan reproduksi sapi kuantan dan sapi bali. Total sampel yang digunakan adalah 80 ekor sapi betina yang terdiri dari 40 ekor sapi kuantan dan 40 ekor sapi bali. Data didapatkan dari responden dan pengamatan langsung di lapangan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji t. Parameter yang diukur adalah umur bunting pertama, days open, lama bunting dan calving interval. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa penampilan reproduksi sapi bali lebih baik dari sapi Kuantan dengan umur bunting pertama (20,35±2,12 bulan vs 21,75±1,93 bulan), days open (110,25±8 hari vs 114,75±9,93 hari) dan calving interval (388,13±9,65 hari VS 392,25±9,25 hari). Namun sapi bali dan sapi kuantan memiliki lama bunting yang sama.Kata kunci: sapi bali, sapi kuantan, calving interval, lama bunting, days openThe Comparison of Reproductive Appearance of Kuantan Cattle with Bali Cattle in Inuman District, Kuantan Singingi RegencyABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performances of kuantan and bali cattle. The total sample used was 80 cows consisting of 40 Kuantan cows and 40 Bali cows. Data were obtained from respondents using questionnaires and direct field observations. Data analysis was performed by t-test. The parameters measured were age at first pregnancy, days open, gestation periods, and calving interval. The results showed that age at first pregnancy of kuantan and bali cattle was 21.75 ±1.93 months vs 20.35±2.12 months, days open was 114 .75±9.93 days vs 110.25±8 days and calving interval was 392.25±9.25 days vs 388.13±9.65 days, respectively. In conclusion, the reproductive performance of bali cattle was better than kuantan cattle. Abstract

ABSTRAK                                                                        Penggunaan andromed pada waktu tertentu sulit untuk didapatkan sehingga perlu alternatif lain untuk mengurangi penggunaan andromed. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh sari wortel sebagai bahan pengencer mengurangi penggunaan pengencer andromed pada semen sapi bali terhadap kualitas spermatozoa sapi bali. Penelitian ini menggunakan semen sapi bali dari Balai Inseminasi Buatan Tuah Sakato, Payakumbuh. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) 4 perlakuan dengan 5 ulangan. Perlakuan pertama: 100% pengencer andromed (P0), sari wortel 5% + andromed 95% (P1), 10% sari wortel + 90% andromed (P2), 15% sari wortel + 85% andromed (P3). Peubah yang dievaluasi adalah persentase motilitas, persentase viabilitas, persentase abnormalitas dan persentase membran plasma utuh setelah pengenceran dan setelah thawing. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa nilai motilitas dan membran plasma utuh semen sapi setelah pengenceran dan setelah thawing tidak berbeda nyata, tetapi berbeda nyata pada nilai abnormalitas dan nilai viabilitas. Kesimpulan: Sari worteldapat mengurangi pemakaian andromed sampai 15% sebagai bahan pengencer pada semen sapi bali.Kata Kunci: membran plasma, motilitas, sapi bali, spermatozoa, viabilitasABSTRACTAndromed is difficult to obtain at any given time so we need other alternatives to reduce the use of andromed. The aim of this study was to understand the effect of carrot juice as a diluent to reduce the use of andromed diluents in bali cattle semen. This study used semen from bali cattle from the Artificial Insemination Center of Tuah Sakato, Payakumbuh. The design used was completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of  100% andromed (P0), 5% carrot juice + 95%andromed(P1),10% carrot juice + 90% andromed (P2), and 15% carrot juice + 85% andromed (P3). The variables measured were the percentage of motility, the percentage of viability, the percentage of abnormality and percentage of intact plasma membrane after dilution and after thawing. The results showed that the motility values and membrane values of the intact plasma membrane of cattle spermatozoa after dilution and post-thawing were not significantly different, but were significantly different in abnormality percentage and viability percentage. This study concluded that carrot juice could reduce the use of andromed up to 15% as a diluent in bali cattle semen.Keywords: bali cattle, motility, plasm membrane, viability, spermatozoa

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the quality of frozen semen of Bali bull resulted from sexing procedure on calf or offspring production with desired sex. The tested sperm of Bali bull were collected from Bali bull raised at Regional Artificial Insemination Center of Riau Province (BIBD Riau). The study was carried out in 2 stages. The first stage was X and Y chromosome separation by albumin method. The extender used in the sexing procedure is trice citrate fructose and egg yolk. The second stage was mainly testing the sexed sperm collected in 60 Bali cow in Langkat Village, Bengkalis Regency. To determine the quality of post thawing frozen semen collected from the sexing procedure, the study evaluated motility, viability, mortality, abnormality and plasma membrane integrity of the spermatozoa. The pregnancy rate, calving rate, and birth accuracy of inseminated sexed sperm to offspring’ sex were also evaluated. The evaluation resulted in motility (66.3-75.3%), viability (70-78.5%), plasma membrane integrity (60-65.8%), abnormality (6.05-8.05%), mortality (20.05-30.05%), and pregnancy rate (83.33-90%). The calving rate on this study was 100% with the birth accuracy of 81.8% for male offspring and 40% for female offspring. As conclusion, the sexed sperm evaluated on this study have fairly good fertility.

Abstract

Artificial Insemination (AI) success depends on the quality of the frozen semen. The quality of the frozen semen of swamp buffalo in Indonesia is still low. The study was conducted to determine the quality of buffalo sperm following freezing using three different diluents and three different doses. The study used buffalo semen from the Tuah Sakato Artificial Insemination Center, Payakumbuh (n = 3). The semen collecting was carried out once a week for 10 weeks (replication). The research method used was 3x3 factorial  randomized block design. The first factor was diluent (Triladyl®, Andromed® and Tris egg- yolk) and the second factor was the dose of spermatozoa (10 and 15 and 20 x 106 sperm/ml). Data were analyzed using variant analysis, while the differences between treatments were tested by Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results showed that the plasma membrane integrity of buffalo sperm was found in Andromed® diluent, while tris egg-yolk diluent gave better motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity and recovery rate at a sperm concentration of 20 x106 sperm/mL compared to triladyl® diluent and a sperm concentration of 10 and 15 x106 sperm/mL. It was concluded that andromed® diluent and tris egg-yolk gave better motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity and recovery rate at a sperm concentration of 20 x106 sperm/mL compared to triladyl® diluent and a sperm concentration of 10 and 15 x106 sperm/mL. of Buffalo of sperm abnormalities not sicnificantly by the type of diluent but are influenced by sperm concentration.

Abstract

Sistem pembibitan sapi potong yang ada di Kecamatan Koto Besar di Kabupaten Dharmasraya masih merupakan jenis peternakan skala kecil dengan sistem pemeliharaan traditional. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan aspek teknis sesuai dengan Permentan NO. 46 / Permentan / PK.210 / 8/2015, struktur populasi dan peningkatan alami. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Agustus hingga September 2019 di lokasi pertanian rakyat di Kecamatan Koto Besar, Kabupaten Dharmasraya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survei yang diperoleh dari 38 peternak dengan 182 sapi Bali. Variabel dalam penelitian ini adalah profil responden, aspek pemuliaan, perumahan, aspek pakan dan struktur populasi pada pemeliharaan ternak. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peternak berada dalam usia produktif dengan pendidikan (SD-PT) dan pengalaman yang baik (8 tahun). 60,53% peternak tidak pernah menerima pelatihan teknologi peternakan. Aspek teknis pemeliharaan baik untuk aspek pemuliaan 91,45%, dan aspek perumahan 90,06%, sedangkan aspek pemberian makan 50,00% kategori kurang. Struktur populasi didominasi oleh sapi dengan peningkatan alami (NI) 21,47%. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini penerapan aspek teknis yang meliputi aspek pemuliaan, perumahan yang baik kecuali aspek pakan. Struktur populasi 1: 4 dengan peningkatan alami 21,47%.

Abstract

The production of halal gelatin from buffalo hide waste which is animal be slaughtered according to Islamic law and using pineapple rind as an extraction agent was an alternative to produce halal gelatin. The availability of buffalo hide in Riau Province was stable and its hide had high protein content. This research was conducted to produced and determine the characteristics of halal gelatin from buffalo hide using solution of pineapple skin in terms of their physical and chemical properties. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was experimental design used with consist of 3 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment was ratio hide :  pineapple rind solution, namely 3:1, 3:2 , 3:3 w/v. The parameters observed were yield, viscosity, color, pH, ash content and moisture content. The results showed that immersion of buffalo hide in the solution of pineapple rind at different ratio gave highly significant increased the viscosity and ash content of gelatin but not significant effect to yield percentage , color, pH and moisture of gelatin. The yield percentage ranging from 5.99-7.33%, pH 4.83-4.85, viscosity was 1.95-2.20 cP, color 0.54-0.71 absorbance unit, ash 0.25-, 032% and moisture 9.97-9.99%. It can be concluded that the best treatment was ratio 3:2 and 3 : 3 according to had viscosity, pH, color, ash and moisture in line with the standard of gelatin by Gelatin Manufacture Institute of America (GMIA).

Abstract

Kuantan cattle is one of the Indonesia's local cattle originating from Riau Province. This research were aimed to determine the average body size and test the fresh semen quality of Kuantan cattle. Measurements of Kuantan cattle body were carried out in 16 adult bulls by observing body length, chest circumference, and shoulder height. Semen quality testing was carried out on four years old bulls with ±150kg weight with the parameters are odor, color, pH, volume, consistency and degrees of viscosity, motility, viability and abnormality. The results showed that the average body size of cattle in Kuantan included body length (cm), chest circumference (cm) and shoulder height (cm) of Kuantan cattle were 88.45 ± 3.92, 119.77 ± 16.18 and 98.94 ± 10.28, while motility, viability, abnormalities were 75.00%, 81.33%, 6.8%. The conclusions of this study were Kuantan cattle body size in small size and the semen feasible to be diluted into frozen semen. Keywords: Body Size, Semen Quality, Kuantan Cattle

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the population structure, natural increase, net replacement stock, and output of buffalo, as well as the holding capacity and capacity of breeders in managing the buffalo. The research was conducted in 14 villages based on the largest number of buffalo population. The material of this research was buffalo (1,802 heads) and buffalo breeders with a total of 179 respondents. The parameters measured were population structure, natural increase, net replacement rate (NRR), output, area carrying capacity and livestock ability to raise. Data were analyzed descriptively by displaying the mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the population structure was dominated by female 68.03%, natural increase 34.74%, male NRR 145.10%; female NRR 310.61%, output 16.83%. the carrying capacity of the Kuantan Tengah area was 10,685.67 ST with the ability of 45.58% breeders. Conclusion: Buffalo cattle in Central Kuantan District have high productivity and Central Kuantan District could be used as a source area for buffalo seedlings.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the relationship of birth weight of calves, sex ratio of the calves, and the age of the dam to the length of pregnancy in buffaloes resulting from artificial insemination in Kampar District. The method used in this research is the descriptive method by displaying the average and standard deviation. The total number of buffaloes that were artificially inseminated in 2018 and gave birth in 2019 was 21 buffalo-cows. Data were analyzed with the Pearson Product Moment (PPM) correlation. The parameters measured in this study were the length of pregnancy, calf birth weight, calf sex ratio, and dam’s age. The results showed a positive correlation between the birth weight of the calves, sex ratio of the calves, and the age of the dam to the length of pregnancy of 1.4%, with an average length of pregnancy, calf birth weight, and sex ratio of 351.81 days, 27.38 kg, and 1: 1 respectively.
