Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis relevansi bahan ajar dan jenis strategi pengajaran yang digunakan untuk perkuliahan lanjutan Advanced Reading dalam jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang telah mengambil perkuliahan lanjutan dari reading 1, reading 2, dan reading 3, dan dosen yang telah mengajar mata kuliah Advanced Reading di jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan checklist, serta kuesioner dosen dan, dan juga hasil penilaiian dari para ahli serta diskusi kelompok dengan mahasiswa. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar dan silabus yang digunakan dalam perkuliahan Advanced Reading dikatakan "Sedikit relevan" untuk digunakan sebagai sumber belajar di jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris. Strategi pengajaran yang sering digunakan dalam perkuliahan Advanced Reading adalah Diskusi. Hasil kuesioner dan diskusi kelompok dengan mahasiswa dari 6 (enam) kelas yang berbeda menunjukkan fokus tujuan pembelajaran Advanced Reading yang berbeda di setiap kelasnya disebabkan karena perbedaan materi pembelajaran yang diberikan oleh dosen. Penggunaan strategi pengajaran tidak memenuhi kriteria pelajar dewasa sehingga pembelajaran dianggap gagal untuk mendorong motivasi siswa dalam belajar.Kata Kunci : keterampilan membaca, bahan ajar, relevansi pembelajaran dan strategi mengajar This study was a descriptive qualitative research which aimed to analyze the relevance of instructional materials and the type of teaching strategies used for Advanced Reading course in English Education Department. The purpose was to describe the relevance of the syllabus and instructional materials, as well as the quality of these learning materials, and to find out the students perception of Advanced Reading course. The subjects of this research were the students who have taken Advanced Reading course and the lecturer who have taught Advanced Reading course in English Education Department. This research was a descriptive qualitative research which was utilizing checklist and questionnaire. The data collected from the expert judges’ checklist, as well as lecturer questionnaire and checklist, and also students’ questionnaire and focus group discussion. The data obtained were descriptively analyzed. The finding of the research showed the relevance of Instructional Materials and the Advanced Reading syllabus was said “Slightly Relevant” to be used as learning resource for English Education Department students. It showed that all experts choose more than 44% of criteria which had been reached. The teaching strategies that used frequently in Advanced Reading course was Discussion. The questionnaire result and the focus group discussion with the students from 6 (six) different classes showed different focus of learning objectives acquired by the students of each classes due to the differences of the learning material provided by the lecturer. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tentang analisis terhadap buku paket bahasa inggris siswa dan guru kelas VIII SMP yang dibuat oleh pemerintah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu masalah-masalah yang dihadapi guru dan murid dalam menggunakan buku paket bahasa inggris kelas VIII yang disediakan oleh pemerintah, mengetahui kualitas umum dari buku paket, mencari tahu kecukupan dari materi pendukung dalam buku serta mencari tahu kecukupan materi komponen bahasa dalam buku. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah dua kelas VIII yang dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan semua guru bahasa inggris kelas VIII yang mengajar di SMP N 4 singaraja. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan hasil kuisioner dan ceklis. Kuisioner digunakan untuk mengetahui masalah yang dihadapi siswa dan guru dalam menggunakan buku sedangkan ceklis digunakan untuk mengetahui kualitas buku secara umum dan spesifik. Berdasarkan hasil checklist diperoleh bahwa kualitas umum buku adalah baik dengan skor 72,77. Selain itu, materi pendamping dalam buku tergolong sangat kurang, namun materi komponen bahasa seperti kosa kata, tata bahasa dan phonetic tergolong cukup. Berdasarkan hasil kuisioner, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dihadapi guru dan siswa dalam penggunaan buku paket seperti; distribusi buku yang lambat, kurangnya variasi aktifitas pembelajaran, tidak terdapatnya daftar kosa kata, ketidaksesuaian petunjuk buku guru dengan kurikulum, ketidaksesuaian indikator dan tujuan dengan buku, kurangnya materi pendukung serta ketidaksesuain materi dengan kemampuan siswa. Dengan demikian, disarankan kepada pemerintah untuk mencocokkan dan menyesuaikan silabus dengan buku paket sebelum diterbitkan.Kata Kunci : Buku Teks, Analisis Buku Teks, When English Rings A Bell, Kurikulum 2013 This research was about an analysis of a textbook entitled “When English Rings A Bell SMP/MTs Kelas VIII” used in SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja. This research aimed at finding out the general quality of the textbook, the sufficiency of accompanying materials of the textbook, the sufficiency of language component materials of the textbook and the problems of students and teachers in using the textbook. This research was descriptive qualitative involved two classes of the eighth grade students using purposive sampling technique and English teachers teaching the eighth grade. The data were collected through the result of checklist and questionnaire. The result of checklist was to know the general quality of the textbook, meanwhile the result of questionnaire was to find out the problems of teachers and students in using the textbook. The result of checklist shows the score of general quality of the textbook is 72,77 means good, the accompanying materials of the textbook are categorized less and the language component materials of the textbook are sufficient. The result of questionnaire shows problems encountered by the students and the teachers in using the textbook including the late distribution of the textbook, lack of variation of learning activities, no list of vocabulary, inappropriate guidance of manual textbook with curriculum, inappropriate indicator and objective with the textbook, lack of supporting materials, and inappropriate materials of the textbook with students’ ability. It is recommended to Government to match and check the appropiateness of the syllabus with the textbook before publishing the textbook.keyword : Textbook, Textbook Analysis, When English Rings A Bell, Curriculum 2013.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi ajar Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal dalam mendukung implementasi kurikulum 2013 untuk semester pertama kelas 7 sekolah menengah pertama di Kecamatan Buleleng. Penelitian ini dikembangkan berdasarkan model penilitian dan pengembangan dari Peffers dan kawan-kawan dalam Ellis dn Levy (2010) yang terdiri dari 6 tahap umum, yaitu: 1)mengidentifikasi masalah, 2) mendeskripsikan tujuan, 3)mendesain dan mengembangkan produk, 4)mengetes produk, 5)evaluasi produk, dan 6)mengkomunikasikan produk. Agar mendapatkan hasil produk yang maksimal, evaluasi produk dinilai oleh dua ahli untuk mengevaluasi kualitas dari isi, integrasi budaya lokal, dan presentasi dari materi Bahasa Inggris yang berbasis budaya lokal. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengevaluasi hasil produk ahli yang berupa checklist. Semua data yang terkumpul di analasis secara kuantitatif dan secara kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa Buku Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal dalam mendukung implementasi kurikulum 2013 untuk semester pertama kelas 7 sekolah menengah pertama di Kecamatan Buleleng. Buku ini terdiri dari 4 tema umum.Materi di desain secara cermat berdasarkan konteks budaya Bali. Konteks budaya Bali dalam buku ini diselipkan melalui gambar, dialog, dan kegiatan pembelajaran. Buku Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya ini juga didesain berdasarkan karakteristik dari kualitas buku. Aspek tersebut dapat dilihat dari topik, aspek dari budaya lokal, dan presentasi buku yang didesain khusus untuk memenuhi kriteria kualitas sebuah buku dari Tomlinson (1998). Secara umum, para ahli menyatakan bahwa buku bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal sudah menarik dan sesuai dengan kriteria yang disertakan.Kata Kunci : Kurikulum 2013, Materi Bahasa Inggris, materi Bahasa inggris berbasis budaya lokal This research aimed at developing culture based English learning material to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the first semester of grade seven junior high schools in Buleleng. This research was designed by utilizing an RnD model development proposed by Peffers et al in Ellis and Levy (2010). This model consisted of six general phases, such as: 1) identify the problem, 2) describe the objectives, 3) design and develop product, 4) test the product, 5) evaluate the product, 6)communicate the product. In order to reach the high qualified product, there were two experts evaluated the content of product, integration of local culture, and presentation of culture based English learning material in the form of English judgment form. All data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of this research was designed in the form of culture based English textbook to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the first semester of grade seven junior high schools in Buleleng. This textbook consisted of 4 topics. The material was designed carefully depends on Balinese culture context. The context of Balinese culture were integrated into pictures, dialogues, and learning activities. Culture based English textbook were also designed to meet the characteristic of good textbook by Tomlinson (1998). Abstract

This research was aimed to design and develop culture-based English learning material for second semester of grade seven of junior high schools in Buleleng sub-district to support the implementation of curriculum 2013. This research was designed as research and development by following RnD model proposed by Peffers et.al (2007) as cited in Ellis and levy (2010) which consisted of six steps. The development of English learning material was in form of textbook. The development of English material was based on the need analysis. The data of need analysis were gained through the interview, questionnaires, and analysis the syllabus. Settings of this research were nine junior high schools in Buleleng sub-district. Balinese cultural values and character values in the textbook were integrated through the pictures, stories, dialogues, learning activities. Data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitaviely.The quality of the textbook was assessed through expert judgment. Three aspects in the textbook were assessed through expert judgment form, namely content aspect, presentation aspect, and the aspect of integration of Balinese culture and character values. Based on the scores given by two experts, the quality of the textbook was categorized as excellent quality since the score given by expert 1 was 156 and expert 2 was 152. The reliability of the data was measured by using Alpha Cronbach’s coefficient. The result of the data analysis showed that α Cronbach’s coefficient was 0.77 and it was categorized as acceptable. In short, the developed culture-based English textbook has good quality and the data were reliable. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen penilaian berbasis budaya untuk semester genap kelas VII SMP di Kecamatan Buleleng untuk mendukung implementasii Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini dikategorikan sebagai penelitian dan pengembangan. Model dari penelitian dan pengembangan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu model penelitian dan pengembembangan oleh Peffers et al. (2007). Penelitian ini berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya yang telah dilakukan oleh Dewi dan Batan (2015). Instrumen penilaian Bahasa Inggris yang cocok untuk semester genap kelas VII SMP di Kabupaten Buleleng yaitu instrumen penilaian yang mengintegrasikan budaya lokal untuk mendukung pengembangan karakter siswa. Langkah-langkah pengembangan instrumen penilaian ini meliputi analisis tujuan, analisis standar penilaian, analisis silabus, analisis sumber bahan ajar, mendesain kisi-kisi, pengembangan instrumen penilaian, penilaian ahli, dan revisi. Pengembangan penilaian ini menghasilakan instrumen penilaian Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan untuk menilai ranah afektif, cognitif, dan psikomotor. Reliabilitas dan kualitas dari instrument penilaian yang telah dikembangakan diperoleh dengan memberikan lembar penilaian untuk ahli penilaian dan ahli pembelajaran Bahasa inggris. Nilai yang diberikan oleh kedua ahli yaitu ahli pertama memberikan nilai sebesar 650 dan ahli kedua memberikan nilaii sebesar 802. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, kualitas instrumen peniaian yaitu sangat baik. Reliabilitas instrumen penilaian juga dikategorikan sangat baik dimana nilai dari Alpha Cronbach’s coefficient sebesar 0,9. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa instrumen penilaian cocok digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di sekolah yang mengimplementasikan Kurikulum 2013.Kata Kunci : Budaya Bali, Penilaian Bahasa Inggris, dan Kurikulum 2013 This research aimed at developing culture-based English language assessment instrument for the second semester of grade seven of junior high school in Buleleng Sub-district to support the implementation of Curriculum 2013. This research was categorized as research and development (RnD). Research and development model which was used in this research proposed by Peffers et.al (2007). This research was based on previous research which had been conducted by Dewi and Batan (2015). The suitable English assessment for the second semester of grade seven of junior high school was English assessment with integrated Balinese culture in order to support the development of character building. The steps of developing this English assessment instrument included assessment goal analysis, assessment standard analysis, syllabus analysis, learning source analysis, designing blue print, developing assessment, expert judgment, and revision. This research produced English assessment instrument which assessed students’ affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains. The reliability and quality of the developed assessment instrument were found out by giving expert judgment form to the experts of assessment and English language teaching. The scores which were given by the two experts were 650 from the first expert and 802 from the second expert. Based on those scores, the quality of the developed English assessment instrument was categorized as excellent. The reliability of the data was categorized as excellent in which the score of Alpha Cronbach’s coefficient was 0.9. It means that the developed culture-based English assessment instrument was suitable to be used in teaching and learning process that implements Curriculum 2013 in Buleleng Sub-districtkeyword : Balinese culture, English assessment, and Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian antara buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, penampilan secara umum buku teks, dan masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks di SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja. Objek penelitian ini adalah buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat puluh lima siswa kelas X dan dua guru bahasa inggris yang mengajar di kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Subjek ditentukan dengan menggunakan purposive technique. Data mengenai kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, dan penampilan secara umum buku teks dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan ceklis. Sedangkan, data mengenai masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks diperoleh dari kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada siswa dan guru bahasa inggris. Dari hasil analisis data ceklis, skor kualitas buku teks adalah 67.22 berarti cukup, skor kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013 adalah 63.63 berarti cukup, sedangkan skor penampilan secara umum buku teks adalah 60 berarti cukup. Dari hasil analisis data kuesioner, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru, diantaranya keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks dan ketidakjelasan tahap pendekatan saintifik dalam buku guru. Secara keseluruhan, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X” cukup baik namun masih terdapat masalah dalam penggunaannya. Oleh karena itu, dapat direkomendasikan bahwa penyusun dan pemerintah bersinergi dalam memperbaiki keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks, melengkapi materi buku teks agar sesuai dengan kurikulum 2013, dan menyesuaikan materi dengan karakter siswa.Kata Kunci : Analisis buku teks, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, kurikulum 2013 The research was descriptive qualitative. This study aimed at finding out the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, the physical appearance of the textbook, and problems encountered by the students and teachers of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja in using the textbook. The object was the textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” The subjects of this study were forty-five students of the tenth grade and two English teachers teaching at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja and chosen using purposive technique. The data of the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, and the physical appearance of the textbook were gained using checklist. Meanwhile, the data of the problems encountered by the students and teachers were gained using questionnaires. According to the result of checklist data analysis, the general quality of the textbook is sufficient with score 67.22, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013 is sufficient with score 63.63, and the physical appearance of the textbook is sufficient with score 60. According to the result of questionnaire data analysis, some problems are encountered, such as the tardiness of the textbook distribution and the vagueness of the steps of scientific approach with the teacher’s manual. Therefore, it is recommended that the author and government should fix the tardiness of the textbook distribution and complete the materials in order to be relevant with the curriculum 2013.keyword : Textbook analysis, a textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, the curriculum 2013.

Abstract

This design and development research aimed at designing and developing a culture-based English e-media to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng sub-district. this research focused on developing e-media that is integrated with Balinese culture. The object of this reseacrh was culture-based English e-media that was developed by using Adobe Flash CS6 program. The source of data was taken from the need analysis conducted by Dewi and Batan (2015), related literatures on developing the e-media, and the result of expert judgement. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative method. This research was designed based on the adaptation of Peffers et al.’s model (2007) consisted of six phases namely: (1) identifying the problem, (2) describing the objective, (3) designing and developing the product, (4) testing the product by using expert judgement, (5) evaluating the testing result, and (6) communicating the testing result. The result of experts’ judgement score showed that the total mean score was 3.8 which meaning that e-media had a good quality to be implemented in teaching and learning English for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng.keyword : E-media, Culture-based, Balinese culture

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengevaluasi pengimplementasian pendekatan ilmiah (scientific approach) dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris berdasarkan kurrikulum 2013 di SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja, (2) untuk mengetahui masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru selama pengimplementasian pendekatan ilmiah dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris berdasarkan kurrikulum 2013 di SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa inggris yang mengajar di kelas X dan XI di SMA N 2 Singaraja. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian eveluatif dengan menggunakan model diskrepensi (Discrepancy model). Penelitian ini membandingkan antara pengimplementasian pendekatan ilmiah (scientific approach) dengan standar kurikulum 2013. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi dengan menggunakan scoring rubric dan interview. Data berupa skor dari observasi dan dicari persentase dari masing-masing guru dan transkip interview. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa pnegimplementasian pendekatan ilmiah (scientific approach) di SMA N 2 Singaraja tidak sesuai dengan standar kurikulum 2013 dan guru-guru mengalami kesulitan pada langkah menanya dan mengkomunikasikan hasil dalam pengimplementasian pendekatan ilmiah.Kata Kunci : Pendekatan Ilmiah, Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, deskripensi The study was aimed to (1) evaluate the implementation of scientific approach in the English instruction based on Curriculum 2013 in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja, (2) find out the problems encountered during the implementation of scientific approach in the English instruction based on Curriculum 2013 in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. The subject of this study was two English teachers of X and XI grade in SMA N 2 Singaraja. This study belongs to evaluative study using discrepancy model. This study compared between the implementation of scientific approach in SMA N 2 Singaraja with the standard based on Curriculum 2013. The techniques for collecting data were observation using scoring rubric and interview. The result of the analysis of scoring rubric was converted into percentage. In conclusion, the result of evaluation of the implementation of scientific approach in teaching English of SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja was not relevant with the standard of Curriculum 2013. There are some missing points in every step when the teachers teach using this approach such as in the questioning and communicating step and the teachers’ problems in implementing scientific approach were in the questioning and communicating step and also the strategy or the technique that was used by the teachers and the limited of media to deliver the material.keyword : Scientific Approach, English instruction, discrepancy
