Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aimed at developing a character based English language textbook for grade IX of junior high school based on the curriculum 2013. This study was designed by modifying the research and development model proposed by Dick, Carey and Carey (2001). There were 11 stages involved in this research, namely 1)identifying instructional goal, 2)conducting instructional analysis, 3)analyzing learner and context, 4)writing performance objectives and indicators, 5)developing judgment rubric, 6)developing design of the textbook, 7)developing content of the textbook, 8)conducting formative evaluation, 9)revising the textbook, 10)limited field trial, 11)final product. This study involved 30 students of SMP Laboratorium Undiksha class IX-1 as the research subjects and an English teacher as well as a lecturer who masters material development as expert judges in assessing the textbook quality. The result of the study shows that the character building was inserted in terms of content and presentation in the textbook. By following the curriculum 2013, the stages of scientific approach were inserted in the presentation of the textbook. Based on the result of the experts’ judgment, it is found that value of Cronbach’s Alpha is 0.850 which indicates good reliability. Moreover, the textbook feasibility is convinced by the mean score from the expert judgment that showed result of 4.55 which categorized as excellent. Besides that, the results of post-questionnaire shows that 90% students are happy in using the textbook. Thus, the character based English language textbook is feasible to be used for grade IX of junior high school based on curriculum 2013. keyword : English textbook, character-based instruction, curriculum, curriculum 2013

Abstract

This study aimed at developing a character-based English textbook for grade VII of junior high school based on the curriculum 2013. The product of this study was developed based on modified instructional design proposed by Dick, Carey, & Carey (2001). The instructional design consists of identifying instructional goal, conducting instructional analysis, analyzing learners and context, writing performance objectives and indicators, developing judgment instrument, developing design of the textbook, developing content of the textbook, conducting formative evaluation, revising the textbook, limited field trial, and the final product. The subjects of this study were 29 students of class VII.A7 of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. There were two experts involved in evaluating the textbook, i.e. a lecturer who expert in material development and an English teacher. From the experts judgment, it is obtained the value of Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient is 0.938 (excellent). In addition, the total mean score of experts’ judgment is 4.35, which is categorized as excellent. The result shows that the character values of the textbook presented in the content and presentation of the textbook. It term of presentation, the textbook followed the steps of scientific approach, namely observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating. Further, from the limited field trial, 24.1% students give rating 4 (happy) toward the textbook implementation and 75.9% give rating 5 (very happy). It means that all students give positive response upon the textbook. Abstract

This study aimed at developing a character-based English textbook for grade VIII of junior high school based on the curriculum 2013. It is categorized as a research and development study in which the product of the study was developed based on the modified instructional design of Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001), consisting of identifying the instructional goal, conducting instructional analysis, analyzing learners and context, writing performance objectives and indicators, developing judgment instrument, developing design of the textbook, developing content of the textbook, conducting formative evaluation, revising the textbook, limited field trial, and the final product. This research involved 32 students of class VIII.B6 of SMP N 6 Singaraja as the subjects and 2 experts as judges, i.e. a lecturer who is expert in materials development and an English teacher. The result of this study shows that the character values are accommodated in terms of content and presentation. The total mean score of the textbook’s content and presentation is 4.74 (Excellent) and the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient reliability is 0.880 (Good). Besides, the result of the questionnaire after the limited field trial indicates that the students were interested and happy in using the developed textbook. In addition, based on the curriculum 2013, due to the implementation of scientific approach, the approach is presented in terms of the presentation of the textbook. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis imbuhan pembentuk kata kerja yang mengalami perubahan secara morfofonemik pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga. Penelitian ini merupakan analisis bahasa deskriptif. Enam narasumber di pilih berdasarkan kriteria tertentu. Alat-alat yang digunakan yaitu: peneliti, 2 daftar kata yaitu: Swadesh dan Northofer, dan daftar kalimat. Data di kumpulkan melalui rekaman percakapan, daftar kata, dan daftar kalimat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Awalan {N-} memiliki 4 anggota morpheme yaitu: ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| dan |m-|. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan prefix {ma-} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berawalan dengan /u/, /i/, and /e/.Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-aŋ} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Phoneme /h/ dilesapkan, sementara kombinasi dari // dan /ʌ/ menghasilkan phoneme /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-a} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Suffix {-a} membentuk kata kerja ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berakhiran /t/, /r/, /s/, kata yang berakhiran dengan /ʌ/ berubah menjadi /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja oleh awalan dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja dan kata benda pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga, sedangkan pembentukan kata kerja oleh akhiran dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja, kata benda, dan kata sifat. Makna dari awalan ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).mengerjakan sesuatu dengan menggunakan alat, 2).Menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Makna dari akhiran ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang dilakukan untuk orang lain, 2).Meminta untuk merubah posisi seseorang dan benda yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Kata Kunci : Afiksasi, Morfofonemik, Imbuhan, Kata kerja. This study aimed at finding out the verb- forming affixation that involves morphophonemic changes in Cempaga Dialect of Balinese. This study was designed in a descriptive qualitative research. There were six informants chosen based on a set of criteria. The instruments used were the researcher, two word lists namely: Swadesh and Northofer, and sentence lists. The data collected through the record of conversation, word lists, and sentence lists. Prefix {N-} has four allomorphs namely: |ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| and |m-|. The verb- forming process that involves the prefix {ma-} results in a morphophonemic change when it is added to the bases which have the initial vowels /u/, /i/, and /e/. The verb- forming process that involves the suffix {-aŋ} results the morphophonemic changes. Phoneme /h/ was omitted, meanwhile the combination between // and /ʌ/ results /ɔ/. Suffix {-a} forms a verb when it is added to the bases ended by /t/, /r/, /s/, /ʌ/ in the base is changed into /ɔ/. The verb- forming process that involves the prefixes is formed by adding verbs and nouns. The verb- forming process that involves the suffixes is formed by adding verbs, nouns, and adjective. The semantic contents of the prefixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). doing something with some tools, 2). stating an action that is related to the bases. The semantic contents of suffixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). Stating an action that is done for others, 2). Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujan untuk mendiskripsikan jumlah fonem dari dialek Pelaga. Penelitian deskriptif ini di desain dengan menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tiga narasumber di pilih berdasarkan beberapa kriteria. Data di kumpulkan berdasarkan tiga word list, yaitu Swadesh, Budasi, and Holle. Data yang diperoleh di analisis secara deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan PD memiliki 55 fonem, yaitu: 6 vowel: /ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/, dan /∂/. 4 geminate vowels: /ʌʌ/, /II/,/ɔɔ/, and /ʊʊ/, 19 Consonants: /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/,/ʔ/,/s/, /ʧ/,/j/, /l/, /r/, /h/, /m/, /n/, /ñ/, / ŋ/, /w/, and /y/, and 19 Consonant clusters: /kl/,/pl/, /bl, /ml/, /tl/, /kr/, /mp/, /mb/, /nt/, /nd/,/nj/, /nc/, /ŋk/, /ŋs/, /ŋg/, /ŋw/, and /ŋky/. Tidak semua distribusi fonem PD ada di tiga posisi (initial. middle and final). Kata Kunci : Kata Kunci: Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, sistem fonologi ,dialek Pelaga, fonem, vokal, diftong, konsonan and kelompok konsonan. The study aimed at describing the number of phonemes of Pelaga Dialect (PD). This descriptive study was designed by using a descriptive qualitative research. Three informant samples of PD were chosen based on a set of criteria. The data were collected based on three word lists: Swadesh, Budasi, and Holle’s Word Lists. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively. The result of the study shows that PD has 55 phonemes, namely: 6 vowels; /ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/, and /∂/. 9 Dipthongs; /ʌi/, /iʌ/, /ʌu/, /uʌ/, /ʌ∂/, /ʌe/, /ʌɔ/, /iu/, and /ɔʌ/, 4 geminate vowels; /ʌʌ/, /II/,/ɔɔ/, and /ʊʊ/, 19 Consonants; /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/,/ʔ/,/s/, /ʧ/,/j/, /l/, /r/, /h/, /m/, /n/, /ñ/, / ŋ/, /w/, and /y/, and 19 Consonant clusters; /kl/,/pl/, /bl, /ml/, /tl/, /kr/, /mp/, /mb/, /nt/, /nd/,/nj/, /nc/, /ŋk/, /ŋs/, /ŋg/, /ŋw/, and /ŋky/. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, yang bertujuan untuk menjelaskan awalan dan akhiran pada dialect Tambakan yang mengalami proses derivasi dan infleksi. Dua narasumber dari Tambakan dipilih berdasarkan beberapa kriteria. Data Dikumpulkan menggunakan tiga teknik, yaitu: teknik observasi, teknik merekam, dan teknik wawancara (mendengarkan dan mencatat). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada enam jenis awalan ditemukan dalam dialek Tambakan . Awalan itu adalah: [ si - ] , [ ma - ] , [ n - ] , [ ka - ] , [ pa - ] , dan [ba - ] . Juga ada enam jenis akhiran ditemukan ada dalam dialek Tambakan . Akhiran itu adalah : [ -in ] , [ - ang ] , [ - ne ] [ -an ] , [ -a ] , [ - n ] . Selain itu ada empat awalan yang mengalami derivasi: [ si - ] , [ ma - ] , [ n - ] dan [ ka - ] dan ada dua macam akhiran ditemukan pada dialek Tambakan yang diklasifikasikan sebagai akhiran derivatif . Akhiran itu adalah : [ -in ] dan [ - ang ] . Sementara itu, awalan yang mengalami infleksi adalah [ ma - ] , [ n - ] , dan [ pa - ] dan akhiran yang mengalami infleksi adalah [ -in ] , [ - ne ] , [ - ang ] , [ -an ] , [ -a ] dan [ - n ] .Kata Kunci : morfem derivasi, morfem infleksional, Tambakan Dialek (TD) This research is a descriptive qualitative research, which aimed at describing the prefixes and suffixes in Tambakan Dialect which belong to derivational and inflectional. Two informants sample of TD were chosen based on a set of criteria. The data were collected based on three techniques, namely: observation, recording technique, and interview (listening and noting) technique. The results of the study showed that there were six types of prefix found in Tambakan dialect. Those prefixes are: [si-], [ma-], [n-], [ka-], [pa-], and [ba-]. Also there were six types of suffixes found existing in Tambakan dialect. Those suffixes are: [-in], [-ang], [-ne] [-an], [-a], [-n]. Moreover there are four prefixes belong to derivational prefix, they are: [si-], [ma-], [n-] and [ka-] and There were two kinds of suffixes found in TD that classified as derivational suffix. They are: [-in] and [-ang]. Abstract

Penelitian ini mendiskusikan tentang proses morfologi pada imbuhan yang ditemukan pada dialek Melaya Pantai yang berperan membentuk kata dan artinya ketika imbuhan tersebut ditambahkan pada kata dasar tertentu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk menemukan jenis-jenis imbuhan pada dialek Melaya Pantai, (2) mengetahui proses imbuhan membentuk kata, dan (3) menemukan arti kata setelah mendapatkan imbuhan. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi dan wawancara, dan menggunakan beberapa instrumen seperti: peneliti itu sendiri, alat perekam, daftar kata, daftar kalimat, dan panduan wawancara. Subjek pemberi informasi dalam penelitian ini adalah pembicara asli dialek Melaya Pantai. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dialek Melaya Pantai memiliki tiga jenis imbuhan. Imbuhan-imbuhan yang ditemukan yaitu: awalan {N-; me-; di-; ber-; ter-; se-}, akhiran {-i; -an; -ken; -nye}, dan imbuhan gabung {N-i; N-ken; ke-an; pe-an; me-i}. Disamping itu ada beberapa proses imbuhan yang ditemukan pada dialek Melaya Pantai yaitu; proses ellipsis, proses derivasional, dan proses infleksional. Dari proses imbuhan pada dialek Melaya Pantai ditemukan bahwa proses-proses tersebut dapat mengubah arti kata setelah mendapatkan imbuhan.Kata Kunci : Proses morpologi, Imbuhan, Dialek Melaya Pantai This research discussed about morphological process of affixation found in Melaya Pantai dialect which has roles in constructing words and their meaning when they were added to certain bases. The purposes of this research were: (1) to find the kinds of affixes in Melaya Pantai dialect, (2) to know the process of affixation constructing the word, and (3) to find the meaning of the word after getting the process of affixation. This research was designed as a descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through observation and interview process, and it used some instruments such as: the researcher itself, recording tools, word list, sentence list and interview guide. The subjects in this research were the native speakers of Melaya Pantai dialect. The result in this study showed that Melaya Pantai Dialect had three kinds of affixes. Those affixes that were found are: prefix {N-; me-; di-; ber-; ter-; se-}, suffix {-i; -an; -ken; -nye}, and circumstance {N-i; N-ken; ke-an; pe-an; me-i}. Besides that there were some process of affixation found in Melaya Pantai Dialect; they were deletion process, derivational process, and inflectional process. From the process of affixation in Melaya Pantai Dialect it was found that those processes can change the meaning of the words after getting the affixation process.keyword : Morphological process, Affixation, Melaya Pantai dialect

Abstract

IMPROVING ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY OF THE STUDENTS OF CLASS VIII A.4 AT SMP NEGERI 1 SINGARAJA BY USING SCIENTIFIC APPROACH BASED ON CURRICULUM 2013 Abstract The study was conducted in order : 1.to improve the students English language competency by using a scientific approach at class VIII A.4 SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja; 2.to find out the students’ responses towards the implementation of scientific approach in teaching English language at class VIII.A 4 SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. It involved 27 students as the subjects. It was conducted in a classroom action research design. Pre-test and pre-classroom observations were carried out before conducting the cyclic process. The classroom action was carried out covering five topics for five sessions. After the action was conducted, in only one cycle, the next cycle is observation consisting of: test, questionnaire, teaching learning process observation was done in particular to check the students’ attitudes and communicative ability. The data collection which belonged to the observation stage was conducted by using test, questionnaire, teaching learning process observation. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicated that (1) the implementation of the scientific approach could improve successfully the students’ English language competency from 76.33 to 91.70 (cycle one) exceeded the passing grade. This finding is supported by the improvement of the students’ attitude quality, as well as the students’ positive responses towards the implementation of the scientific approach. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang berhubungan dengan pendidikan yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang berlandaskan karakter kepada siswa-siswi kelas VII (tujuh) SMP (sekolah menengah pertama) yang berdasar pada Kurikulum 2013 (implementasi Kurikulum 2013). Adapun langkah-langkah penelitian yang digunakan agar dapat mencapai tujuan dari penelitian ini, langkah 1 (penentuan masalah), langkah 2 (membuat desain), langkah 3 (pengembangan). Selain itu, terdapat pula 5 instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yakni rubrik penilaian, lembar ahli, kuisioner, pedoman wawancara, dan daftar pengawasan. Dalam penelitian ini, data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara descriptive kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran berlandaskan karakter ini dibagi menjadi dua bagian, yakni semester 1 dan semester 2. Pada bagian semester 1, terdapat 4 buah unit dengan 12 rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, sedangkan semester 2 terdiri dari 14 rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dirangkum dalam 3 unit. Temuan lainnya dari penelitian ini yaitu rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dikategorikan sebagai “excellent” oleh para ahli. Terdapat pula terdapat tujuh fitur yang ditemukan sebagai rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran inovatif yang baik dan dapat diaplikasikan sebagai implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dapat memenuhi kriteria sukses penelitian sebagai rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang baik, mudah digunakan, dan inovatif yang berlandaskan karakter kepada siswa-siswi kelas VII (tujuh) SMP (sekolah menengah pertama) yang berdasar pada Kurikulum 2013 (implementasi Kurikulum 2013) sehingga dapat digunakan oleh guru. Kata Kunci : rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, berbasis karakter, Kurikulum 2013 This research was an educational research and development that aimed at developing character-based instructional devices used for teaching English for seventh grader at junior high school based on Curriculum 2013 (the implementation of Curriculum 2013). In order to attain the purpose of this study, there were three main stages, namely, stage 1 (problem determination), stage 2 (design), and stage 3 (development) that were used in this study. In addition, the data collection procedure of this research was assisted by five instruments, namely, scoring rubric, experts’ sheet, questionnaire, interview guidance, and observation checklist. Furthermore, the data obtained were analysed descriptive qualitatively. In accordance with the results of this research, it was found that these character-based instructional devices were divided generally into two semesters, which were semester 1 and semester 2. Semester 1 part was consisted with 4 units with 12 instructional devices, while the semester 2 part involved 14 instructional devices that were covered in 3 units. Another finding showed that the instructional devices were classified as “excellent” by the experts. And the last finding, there were seven features found of good and applicable innovative instructional devices as the implementation of Curriculum 2013. In conclusion, this developed instructional devices has answered the criteria of success of good and applicable innovative character-based instructional devices used for teaching English for seventh grader at junior high school based on Curriculum 2013 (the implementation of Curriculum 2013), thus this product can be used by the teacher.keyword : instructional devices, character-based, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

The aim of this study were to find out (a) significant difference of English language competency of between the students who learnwith picture mediain a scientific approach and those who learn without picture media; (b) to find out the students’ responses towards the use of picture media in learning English based on the scientific approach. The resultwas an experimental with a post-test control group design. The population of this study consisted of 236 students eight different classes. There were 60 students selected as the sample using cluster random sampling divided into a control group and an experimental group. The data of the study were collected by using test, questionnaires, and observation check list. The analysis of the quantitative data was carried out by using descriptive and inferential statistics, while the analysis of the qualitative data were made descriptively. The results indicated that: (a) there was a significant different of English language competency between the students who were taught with picture media. This meant that picture media used based on the scientific approach contributed significantly the English language competency of the students at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. (b) The students’ development of scientific attitude based on the results it was recommended for the teacher to implement the scientific approach supported by picture media,.
