Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the Geogebra-assisted Wondering, Exploring, and Explaining (WEE) learning model in improving the ability to understand mathematical concepts on lines and angles material at Junior High School of Darush Sholihin Batu in the 2022/2023 academic year. The study employs practical classroom action research, recruiting class VII-B as the research subjects. Interview guides, observation sheets, end-of-cycle test questions adapted to indicators of the ability to understand concepts, and field notes were the study's pilots for data collection. The findings showcased that the observation of teachers' and students' activities, the final cycle test completeness, and the interview results with happy students were boosted from cycles I to II. Furthermore, cycle II met the indicators of action success, indicating that the Geogebra-assisted Wondering, Exploring, and Explaining (WEE) learning model can improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts on lines and angles material at SMP Darush Sholihin Batu.

Abstract

Resource allocation in the production process are important things that need to be considered to achieve optimal production levels. Production optimization problems are still an obstacle for most businesses operating in the food sector. One of them is the “Taufik Tempe” business which produces tempeh in three different sizes, namely large, medium, and small. The business owner finds it difficult to determine the amount of production according to market demand and minimize production costs for maximum profits. This research aims to solve the profit optimization problem of “Taufik Tempe” with appropriate production allocation to achieve maximum profits. The method used is the method of data collection and data analysis. Data collection methods include field studies (observations and interviews) and literature review. Meanwhile, data analysis uses the simplex method and uses MATLAB software. Data analysis techniques using observation and interviews. Meanwhile, the research results show that the maximum profit per month obtained is Rp 750.000,00 by focusing on producing only large-sized tempeh. Furthermore, by using MATLAB software the same results are obtained as using the simplex method but with a simple, effective and efficient algorithm, ofcourse with precise results and the use of this software aims to avoid calculation errors.

Abstract

The research aims to improve students’ Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability (KPMM) by applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media. This research was a collaborative or participatory classroom action research and involved researchers, mathematics educators, colleagues, and students in grade IX of SMP Islam Muallimin Kediri in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research instruments consisted of learning devices and data collection instruments. The learning devices employed the Lesson Implementation Plan (RPP), Student Worksheets (LKPD), and AR-Build Space Media. Meanwhile, data collection instruments were observation sheets, interviews, and KPMM tests. Data analysis was conducted descriptively comparatively. The results indicated that implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media significantly increased students’ KPMM, with the average class value increasing from 56.75 in cycle I to 73.87 in cycle II. In short, the implementation of the PBL model assisted by augmented reality media could increase the KPMM of SMP Islam Muallimin Kediri’s students in grade IX.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover and analyze hidden misconceptions in algebraic understanding among first-year students in the Mathematics Education Department at a private university in Malang. Conducted from January to March 2024, the research involves two first-year students as subjects. The first subject exhibits the misconception known as "illegal canceling," while the second subject demonstrates the "assumption of distributivity of exponents." Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, diagnostic interviews and problem-solving tasks were employed to identify and understand these misconceptions. Our findings indicate that these hidden misconceptions significantly hinder the students' ability to correctly solve algebraic problems and understand underlying concepts. For the first subject, the error in illegal canceling often led to incorrect simplifications, while the second subject's erroneous application of exponent rules resulted in fundamentally flawed solutions. By systematically categorizing these misconceptions, the study offers tailored instructional strategies to effectively address and correct them. This research highlights the critical need for early detection and targeted intervention in mathematical education. By providing a deeper insight into specific algebraic misunderstandings, the study suggests practical approaches for educators to enhance their teaching methodologies, ultimately improving students' overall algebra comprehension. The novelty of this research lies in its detailed focus on hidden misconceptions and the provision of actionable solutions, offering a fresh perspective on improving algebra education for first-year university students.

Abstract

Communication style is a way in which a person conveys messages or information. Pre-service teachers need to have good communication skills. Communication is one of the keys to the effectiveness of a learning process. Mathematical communication is divided into two, namely written communication and oral communication. Interactive learning videos are one of the alternative media used in online learning. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication style of pre-service teachers in conveying the material of Inequalities through interactive learning videos. This study uses a qualitative approach. The purposive sampling technique was chosen as the sampling method. The subjects of this study consisted of three students from the mathematics education study program FKIP UNISMA, each of which represented a different cohort level, namely semesters 2, 4, and 6. The results of the three subjects have a distinctive and different communication style in explaining the material of Absolute-Value Inequalities. Based on data analysis, the first student’s communication style tends to be non-assertive, the second student has a manipulative communication style, and the third student’s communication style tends to be more assertive.
