Abstract

Abstract

Public health problems, especially those related to mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever and malaria, are often caused by poor environmental conditions. Due to irregular waste disposal, stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so the solution is the bio-pore method. This community service aims to eradicate the problem of mosquito breeding by increasing collective awareness and community involvement through the socialization of biopore creation. The community service method uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The community service activity was carried out at the student dormitory on Jalan Jawa VI No. 35A, Sumbersari Village, Jember, which students attended. The results of the community service activity showed an increase in participants' understanding and awareness of the importance of biopores in preventing mosquito breeding. Evaluation through questionnaires before and after the socialization showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and awareness regarding the function and benefits of biopores. The active participation of the community in maintaining environmental cleanliness can create a healthier environment and reduce the risk of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.

Abstract

This service aims to increase public understanding and awareness of environmental conservation to overcome the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in an environment that is prone to waterlogging in the rainy season. In addition, it is also aimed at increasing understanding of environmental factors that contribute to the increase in the population of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, overcoming challenges in increasing public awareness of the environment and developing effective strategies to encourage the adoption of pro-environmental behaviors to prevent the spread of dengue fever. This service method uses PAR (Participatory Action Research) and descriptive methods through a qualitative approach. The results of the service show that the socialization of the implementation of socialization at Kosmik Kos Putra 39 in Jember makes this educational and interactive activity increase public understanding and concern about the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness to prevent dengue. This activity is expected to provide benefits in the form of increasing understanding, awareness, and skills of the community in protecting the environment so that it does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, as well as contributing to efforts to protect and manage the environment sustainably.

Abstract

Plastic waste in eco-bricks is one of the innovative solutions to reduce the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment. Ecobricks are plastic bottles filled densely with non-organic plastic waste cut into small pieces, forming a sturdy building material that can be used for various construction purposes. The socialization program for the use of waste in eco-bricks is one of the important initiatives in overcoming the increasingly worrying problem of plastic waste. This program aims to increase public awareness about the importance of plastic waste management, reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills, and provide alternatives to using plastic waste that is more useful. This service uses the PAR (Participatory Action Research) method by directly providing education to students, including the lecture and question and answer method. Through this socialization, the community is invited to actively participate in making eco-bricks, understand the techniques and benefits, and apply them in daily life. The result of this service is creating a cleaner environment, reducing plastic pollution, and forming collective awareness to preserve the environment through concrete actions. This service concludes that eco-bricks are an effective and sustainable solution to overcome the problem of plastic waste while providing added value to the community. Further development and socialization of the use of eco-bricks are expected to encourage wider participation from the community in managing plastic waste creatively and environmentally friendly.

Abstract

Waste management is crucial in maintaining environmental cleanliness and the health of living things around it. At SD Negeri Glagahwero 01, waste problems are a major concern in maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment. This community service aims to educate students about their role in waste management and increase awareness of a waste-free environment. This research method uses Participatory Action Research (PAR) through training with material presentation, active interaction, contextual learning, and discussions involving grade 6 students of SD Negeri Glagahwero 01 and the Kampus Mengajar 7 team. In the socialization, students were invited to recognize the types of waste and how to manage the waste around them. The results of the community service show that this activity has succeeded in attracting and educating students about waste management. They responded positively by answering the speakers' questions and providing examples of waste management that they can do correctly in their daily lives. In addition, students also understand the impact of good and bad waste management. Although the socialization is short, this activity can influence student behavior in the long term so that they are aware of their role in creating a waste-free environment.

Abstract

Managing household waste, especially organic waste, is still a challenge in Indonesia. The low level of public awareness in processing organic waste into compost causes the accumulation of waste which has a negative impact on the environment. Housewives as the main managers of household waste have an important role in starting the process of managing organic waste independently. This research aims to provide outreach to housewives in RT 001/RW 001, Sumberketangi Environment about how to process organic waste into compost through an educational approach. The methods used include counseling, direct demonstrations, and assistance to housewives in the process of making compost. The results of the activity show an increase in understanding and skills of housewives in managing organic waste. Apart from that, the application of compost in the household environment has been proven to reduce the volume of waste and improve the quality of plants in the home yard. It is hoped that this program can contribute to community-based waste management and encourage environmentally friendly behavior in Wirolegi Village.
