Abstract

Abstract

Food insecurity is a condition of inadequate food and nutrition experienced by people in certain areas, which has an impact on the inhibition of physiological growth and public health. Generally, food insecurity occurs in villages that are far from urban access, even though the natural potential in villages is greater than in cities. This is also experienced by the people of KarangJengkol Village, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. Karangjengkol Village has great natural potential due to its location on the slopes of Mount Slamet, but many of its people live below the poverty line, resulting in food insecurity. The real form of effort to improve the food security of the Karangjengkol Village community is to provide education about the importance of animal protein consumption. Professional rabbit farming was chosen because rabbit meat contains animal protein which is quite high compared to other meats. In addition, the temperature of Karangjengkol Village is suitable for rabbit farming. This service activity is carried out through four stages, namely 1) planning, 2) implementation, 3) evaluation, and 4) independent sustainability. Overall, this service activity went well and smoothly. The data from the results of this service activity show that 68.18% of the Karangjengkol Village community has a monthly expenditure allocation below Rp. 600,000 per person, which means that the fulfillment of animal protein tends to be low. Therefore, after this activity, it is hoped that the Karangjengkol Village community will be able to improve food security and economy through rabbit farming independently, professionally, and sustainably.

Abstract

The Bonokeling indigenous community of Banyumas District is still insisting on continuing its various traditions and local wisdom within various phases of life. One form of local wisdom possessed by the people of Bonokeling is the pranata mangsa, a calendrical system based on the apparent motion of the sun, which is widely used by Javanese farmers to determine planting times for agricultural commodities. This research was conducted in a bid to analyze the application of pranata mangsa and its impact on rice yield. In that respect, this qualitative-quantitative study uses primary data collected from interviews conducted among 50 farmers within the Bonokeling community and secondary data taken from the previous research and publications by related institutions. Data analysis used in the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The result shows that there is no significant difference in the rice produced between farmers who used pranata mangsa and those who did not. This might probably be explained by increased uncertainty of the seasons due to climate change.

Abstract

Indonesian tea consumption has posted a consistent upward trend, both in volume and market demand for a greater variety of tea products. Among the popular new varieties is artisan tea, which is a creatively crafted blend of tea leaves mixed with natural ingredients such as spices, flowers, and dried fruits to produce distinctive tastes and a good appearance. Although the ingredients used are plant-based and generally halal, the artisan tea manufacturing process can still include critical control points that require rigorous halal testing. The goal of this study is to identify and assess the halal critical points of artisan tea manufacturing according to three aspects: raw materials, manufacturing process, and packaging materials. A qualitative descriptive research design was utilized, including literature review, direct observation of the manufacturing process, and analysis using the halal critical point decision tree framework. It discovers that possible points of halal criticality at the artisan stage of tea-making pertain almost solely to packing material—essentially those bearing plastic-based or synthetically embedded material, those occasions of mixing handled manually as perhaps a hazard against contamination, and storage needs such that protective containment from access of uncleaned substances or cross-contamination should be required. In contrast, ingredients such as green tea, dried mint leaves, and Indian cardamom, being the major ingredients, when used in their dry forms, are usually exempted from having severe halal concerns on account of their plant origin and minimal processing and are thus inherently halal.   Keywords: Tea, Artisan Tea, Halal Critical Points, Halal

Abstract

The Gatos Farmers Group in Sumpiuh Village, Banyumas District, has consistently cultivated organic rice over the past two years. This initiative was driven by awareness of the negative impacts of conventional rice farming, particularly the use of chemical inputs, on both the environment and human health. As part of the support provided to the organic rice cultivation efforts of the Gatos Farmers Group, this community service program involved organic pesticide production training and pratice, aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge and equip them with technical skills to produce organic pesticides using natural materials readily available in their surroundings. The training began with participatory planning, followed by lectures on the subject, and continued with hands-on practice in making organic pesticides. The training successfully improved farmers' knowledge of organic pesticides, as evidenced by the increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, further validated through statistical testing using a paired sample t-test. Post-training monitoring indicates that members of the Gatos Farmers Group have adopted organic pesticide production and applied it to their rice farming.

Abstract

The Gatos Farmers’ Group, as a pioneer of organic rice cultivation in Sumpiuh, has faced challenges due to the limited availability of high-quality and affordable organic fertilizers. At the same time, goat manure generated from local livestock farming has not yet been optimally utilized. This community service activity was designed to enhance farmers’ capacity in processing goat manure into organic fertilizer through participatory training. A total of 25 organic rice farmers, all members of the Gatos Farmers’ Group, took part in this program. The method consisted of three stages: preparation (observation and focused group discussions), implementation (technical training and hands-on practice), and post-training assistance. Evaluation results indicated a 41% increase in participants’ understanding, as reflected in the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. The participatory training approach not only improved the knowledge and technical skills of organic rice farmers in producing their own organic fertilizer but also fostered the integration of crop–livestock farming systems that support the application of a circular economy at the local level.ABSTRACTKelompok Tani Gatos sebagai pionir budidaya padi organik di Kelurahan Sumpiuh, Kabupaten Banyumas, menghadapi kendala keterbatasan pupuk organik berkualitas dengan biaya terjangkau. Abstract

Honey pineapple is one of the commodities widely cultivated by the community of Karangjengkol Village, Purbalingga District. The utilization of honey pineapple is still focused on the fruit, while the waste from the skin has not been optimally utilized. Pineapple skin has the potential to be further processed into silage, but the community of Karangjengkol Village has limited capacity to do so. This community service activity aims to empower women farmers through training in making silage from pineapple peel using the asset-based community development (ABCD) approach. The implementation of community service activities began with mapping local assets, designing training activities, and conducting training and practice in making silage from pineapple peel. The evaluation of the training activity was carried out by administering pre-tests and post-tests that emphasized key indicators related to silage production. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the participants' knowledge and understanding of silage production. This was demonstrated by an average increase in pre-test and post-test scores of 94 percent. These results indicate that training followed by hands-on practice can increase community capacity, particularly in terms of knowledge and skills in processing pineapple peels into silage.ABSTRAKNanas madu menjadi salah satu komoditas yang banyak dibudidayakan masyarakat Desa Karangjengkol, Kabupaten Purbalingga.
