Abstract

Currently, telecommunication operators must deploy 5G networks to cope with the exponential growth in internet-access demand. To minimize capital expenditure, existing 4G cell towers are being used to install new 5G base stations (gNodeB). However, 5G has different key performance indicators (KPI), frequency and bandwidth values, and propagation models compared to 4G hence an evaluation of this approach’s effectiveness is needed. This paper analyzes 5G network performance with frequency of 3.5 GHz, bandwidth of 100 MHz, and using existing cellular towers in Surakarta City. The city has a total area of 46.8 km2, mostly flat topography and not many tall buildings therefore propagation models with line-of-sight urban macro (UMa) and urban micro (UMi) are representative. KPI parameters for throughput include 75% of the area served with at least 100 Mbps for downlink and at least 50 Mbps for uplink. KPI parameter for signal strength targets at least 90% of the area covered with -100 dBm or higher. Our Atoll simulations show that the optimistic scenario (UMa) produces average throughput of 153.59 Mbps (downlink) and 117.88 Mbps (uplink), 89.43% served with at least 100 Mbps (downlink) and 100% experience at least 50 Mbps (uplink), average signal strength is -83.99 dBm and 79.71% area covered with at least -100 dBm. The pessimistic scenario (UMi) predicts throughput of 141.32 Mbps (downlink) and 117.88 Mbps (uplink), 86.52% provided with at 100 Mbps (downlink) and 100% served with 50 Mbps (uplink), average signal strength of -90.73 dBm and 75.13% area covered with at least -100 dBm. It can be concluded that the 5G network installed at existing 4G towers can conform to KPI parameters on throughput but still experience drawbacks in signal coverage. A non-Standalone 5G network is suitable for early deployment, but gNodeB installation at new locations is needed in the following years.

Abstract

Communication with a wireless system is one of the mainstays of communication so that communication integration is achieved. In this application, of course, an antenna is needed to send information waves to the receiver. It is also hoped that the antenna can be integrated with other components into an integrated system. There are several challenges that need to be answered to make this happen. Namely, the size of the antenna is small and the shape of the antenna can adjust to the shape of the object being integrated, for example a circle or cylinder shape. The antenna chosen to realize this challenge is the Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA). PIFA antennas are widely used in communication devices because their shape and size can be adjusted to the dimensions of the device. The technique used to create curved shapes is a conformal technique. To streamline the antenna design steps, the system tuning method is applied when simulating the design. The results achieved use a system tuning method which can reduce the experimental steps to just 6 experimental steps. The antenna designed works in the frequency range 916.9 – 933 MHz, the resonant frequency of 925.6 MHz with S11 is -12.5 dB, bandwidth 16.1 MHz, and the radiation pattern is omnidirectional.

Abstract

Reliability and excellent service in the low voltage network system are benchmarks for PLN's performance in terms of customer satisfaction. In a Low Voltage Network System, the transformers status at distribution substations needs to be monitored. Transformer condition and load profile monitoring contribute to the response actions to maintain transformer performance. Currently, monitoring of transformer load profiles is still carried out manually by maintenance personnel periodically, which does not provide a precise picture of network conditions. We propose online monitoring system for transformer load profiles at PLN UP3 South Surabaya and UP3 North Surabaya. The online monitoring process was based on the ESP32 microcontroller. The test results show that monitoring equipment can provide detailed load profile information to time sequence and a benefit to cost ratio value of 1. Thus, the implementation of online monitoring equipment is suitable for application in distribution substations that makes it easy to monitor transformer conditions in real time while providing efficiency benefits.
