Abstract

The Community Engagement Program (KKN) of UIN Bandung in 2023 was organized and implemented based on Community Empowerment (Sisdamas), with a focus on fostering Religious Moderation in villages, tailored to community needs and the academic backgrounds of participating students. Through the Fun Learning method, the initiative aimed to boost student learning motivation at SDN Mekarbakti, Mekarsari Village, Bandung Regency. By integrating Participatory Action Research and qualitative research approaches, the implementation of Fun Learning methods, including educational games, arts and creativity activities, group discussions, and class projects, proceeded through four structured cycles: citizen meetings and social reflection, community organizing and social mapping, participation planning, action, monitoring, and evaluation. The results of community empowerment demonstrated a significant boost in student participation, interest in learning, academic performance, and positive feedback from teachers and parents. They assessed that this learning approach was more effective in enhancing student motivation than conventional methods, aligning with various contemporary theories and research findings.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the quality assurance according to Islam and the experience of its application in Islamic-based public education institutions. Quality assurance in education and other fields has been widely practiced in Indonesia. Many experts have discussed quality assurance, but it is still in education in general, not specifically religious education. However, it is still in the aspect of education generally, not specifically religious education. Religious education has a strategic and urgent role in instilling morals/noble character in the generation of the Indonesian nation. Therefore, Islamic religious education is given special attention in the 2013 curriculum and given additional hours of study to produce a generation of people who are moral, faithful, and pious. It is said that the better generation, the better the quality assurance of education. This research was a qualitative study. It was a case study. It was at Vocational High Schools Ma'arif Nahdhatul Ulama, Garut, West Java, Indonesia (SMK Ma'arif NU Garut). This study shows that the application of quality assurance in Islam must balance the religious and rationality values so that there is no paradox between the two, as was successfully implemented at SMK Ma'arif NU Garut. This success proves that no religious values contradict rationality, so it should be used as a basis to support or complement the theory/concept and practice of quality assurance in other Islamic-based public education institutions.

Abstract

Before Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy, Indonesian fiqh was predominantly characterized by a rigid and blind imitation (taqlid) rigidly adopting interpretations from Islamic schools in regions such as the Hijaz, Egypt, and India. These foreign teachings often lacked relevance to Indonesia's cultural context, causing friction between Islamic jurisprudence and local customary law (hukum adat). In response, Hasbi developed an Indonesian fiqh that integrated local traditions, aligning with the national motto Bhineka Tunggal Ika, which UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised as crucial for a harmonious future in Southeast Asia. This approach fosters unity through the respectful recognition of cultural diversity. This study explores how sustaining Bhineka Tunggal Ika can be achieved through religious moderation based on Indonesian fiqh, particularly focusing on Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy. Employing qualitative research, the study utilized a literature review and thematic content analysis through four steps: data collection (gathering relevant information), data reduction (filtering out irrelevant data), data display (visually organizing key themes), and inference (synthesising findings to address research questions). This study reveal that Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy's Indonesian fiqh approach strengthens religious moderation by integrating universal Islamic principles with local traditions and promoting peaceful conflict resolution, while being consistent with national regulations-Presidential Regulation 58/2023 and Minister of Religion Regulation 3/2024-that promote unity in diversity and foster social cohesion in Indonesia. Therefore, Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy's Indonesian fiqh modernizes Islamic law by integrating maslahah (public welfare) and urf (cultural practices), moving beyond rigid taqlid, and deserves recognition as a vital source for strengthening religious moderation and sustaining Bhineka Tunggal Ika in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study is motivated by high expectations and government recognition of the strategic role of Private Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIS), which have not been supported by an optimal organizational structure, particularly at Bhakti Persada Islamic College of Bandung (STAI Bhaper). The lack of adaptive organizational structure hinders the effectiveness of governance and the achievement of institutional goals. This research aims to formulate an ideal organizational structure model which aligns with the dynamic needs of PTKIS and the current regulations. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a case study method, and draws on Henry Mintzberg’s organizational theory, as well as foundation and PTKIS regulations. Data were collected through document analysis, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation. Then, data were analyzed using Albert Humphrey’s SWOT model and validated with Lincoln and Guba’s trustworthiness criteria. The results of the study show that the current organizational structure tends to be bureaucratic with rigid work standards and strict supervision, but has the potential to transform into a more flexible professional organization. The main strength is in the leadership’s commitment and compliance with regulations, while the weakness is in the suboptimal coordination and limited resources. Digitalization and governance reform become strategic opportunities, while internal resistance emerges as the main challenge. This study recommends the implementation of a professional organizational model centered on strengthening managerial capacity, administrative digitalization, and competency-based coordination, which is expected to enhance the governance of STAI Bhakti Persada and become a trademark for other Private Islamic Higher Institutions (PTKIS).

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in encouraging social change during three important phases in Islamic history, namely the Khulafaur Rashid, the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, and assesses its relevance in contemporary contexts. This study uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method on primary and secondary sources that contain hadith and historical records related to social transformation in each period. The results of the study show that during the time of Khulafaur Rashidin, hadith became a normative foundation in organizing socio-political life, including in the distribution of zakat, the protection of minorities, and deliberation in decision-making. In the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, hadith was used as a tool of legitimacy of power, but it also underwent significant codification and standardization, making it an instrument of institutionalized social reform. Contemporary discussions reveal that the values in the hadith remain relevant in promoting social justice agendas, inclusive education, gender equality, and peace. However, challenges arise when the hadith is interpreted textualistically without considering the context and purpose of the shari'a (maqāṣid al-sharī'ah). This study concludes that hadith has great transformative potential if interpreted contextually and progressively, but risks becoming a tool of conservatism if used narrowly. Therefore, hermeneutic and maqāṣid approaches need to be integrated in the understanding of hadith in the modern era.
