Abstract

Linguistics is the study of language, both as an object and in its function and development. The existence of language structures can be seen throughout history and is a special phenomenon, isolated from other social elements. Regarding the structure of language and the limitations it imposes (lexical semantics, phonology, morphology, syntax and functional stylistics), language is a very specific and separate social phenomenon. Some language elements and categories, their characteristics and structural variants cannot be translated and are unique to the language. There are a number of methods and approaches that focus on sociolinguistic studies, including: a) competence-based language teaching, b) communicative language teaching, c) natural approach, d) cooperative language learning. In addition, there are several explanations of the basic theories of sociolinguistics that are applied in schools, namely: a) language as a communication tool, b) language skills are broad, c) students are part of society

Abstract

Background: Stress and anxiety are becoming more common and prone to occur among athletes, especially martial arts athletes in the pencak silat and karate, facing national or international level matches. One example of such a problem is during the National Sports Week Prequalification round. This condition blames the pressure from internal and external aspects (e.g., coaches) to win first place—the urgency to win the tournament results in an intensive training program. Karate and pencak silat are different martial arts, meaning that each has different stress, anxiety, and depression. Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the level of stress, anxiety, and depression between the two martial arts. Methods: This quantitative study relied on a comparative approach. As many as 35 Gorontalo PPLP athletes from Karate and Pencak silat were involved as the research population. Some were selected as the sample using the total sampling method. All data were retrieved using the depression anxiety and stress scale (DASS-42) by Lovibond and Lovibond. This questionnaire has been adapted into the Indonesian language. After the descriptive analysis of the data, the homogeneity and normality tests were performed as the data analysis prerequisite. Results: Following this test was a t-test to examine the hypothesis. The research results show no significant differences in the stress and anxiety levels of karate and pencak silat athletes. Interestingly, there are significant differences in the depression levels of karate athletes and pencak silat athletes. Conclusion: Reducing stress, anxiety, and depression in athletes is imperative to support martial arts performance.

Abstract

Students' interest in taking part in Martial Arts is still an important thing in recruiting student athletes. The purpose of this research is to understand the students' interest in participating in martial arts sports by considering the interest in participating in martial arts sports. This study uses a quantitative method by analyzing a simple correlation relationship. The population sample in this study was junior high school students from 9 districts in Gorontalo City, which consisted of 22 junior high schools (16 public junior high schools and 6 private junior high schools). The sample is taken as a whole (Total Sampling). Data was collected by distributing questionnaires about interest in participating in martial arts and tests to measure interest in participating in martial arts. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, homogeneity and normality tests, as well as simple correlation hypothesis testing and t tests to test significance. The results showed that the correlation coefficient (ryx₁) was 0.799 with a significance of p <0.05. This shows that there is a significant effect of nutritional status on students' interest in participating in martial arts. The Nutritional Status variable contributed 63.9% (R^2 = 0.639) to students' interest in participating in Martial Arts, while the remaining 36.1% was influenced by other factors.
