Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has high biodiversity. One of Indonesia's biodiversity plants is the croton plant (Codiaeum variegatum (L.) Rumph. ex A. Juss.). The Croton plant is one of the plants used by the general public as an ornamental plant because of the various shapes and colors of its leaves. This research aims to carry out an inventory of various varieties of croton plants in Jeruju Besar Village, Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan Province. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with stages including taking samples of croton plants followed by identifying and providing descriptions of croton plants. The results of the research show that there are 24 varieties of croton based on the leaves color and shape, namely ‘Daylight’, ‘Mentimun’, ‘Gold Star’, ‘Burgundy’, ‘Bor Merah’, ‘Batik Mini’, ‘Mentega’, ‘Kecapi’, ‘Trisula’, ‘Tiger’, ‘Spaghetti Three-Color’, ‘Kura Lokal Variegata’, ‘Emping’, ‘Koi’, ‘Manik Maya’, ‘Jazzy Hybrid’, ‘Lele Kirmizi’, ‘Holland’, ‘Kura Batu’, ‘Jumbo Jet’, ‘Adreanum’, ‘Keris’, ‘Jet Amerika’, and ‘Kelabang’.

Abstract

Biology is a subject about living things and their relationship with the nature environment. One thing that can be support the biology learning process is a media. A pocket book is a medium that is small, easy to carry and can be read at any time. This study aims to determine the feasibility of the betangas herb of pocket book media for treating vertigo. The pocketbook is tested for suitability by five validators. There are four aspects assessed namely, format, content, language and graphics. The research results show the value for the format aspect is 1, the content aspect is 1, the language aspect is 1, and the graphic aspect is 1. The results of the validation show a CVI value of 1. So it can be concluded that the betangas herb pocket book media for treating vertigo as a learning medium for nervous system sub-materials can be declared feasible.

Abstract

Women's health care is a very important thing to do. However, not all women's health care is safe because most of it uses products or ingredients that can damage the body. The solution for that problem is to use natural ingredients that come from nature as an alternative to maintain women’s health. The people of Trimulya Village, especially women, still use plants to maintain their health. This research aims to determine the plant species used for women's health and how the plant processed as in Trimulya Village. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection carried out using structured interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the research results, 21 plant species are used to maintain women's health in Trimulya Village three of which are rarely found, namely white turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria Roxb), Chinese betel (Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth), and lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Roscoe). The most frequently used processing method is by boiling. The plants used by the community are come from their garden or the yard of the house.

Abstract

Leaflets are learning media in the form of printed media that provide a summary of learning material to be memorized by students. Leaflet media allows students to learn at their own pace. This study aims to produce products and analyze the feasibility of leaflet media for bacterial diversity in fibric peatlands on the sub-matter of Indonesian biodiversity. The research method used quantitative descriptive method with Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI) analysis. Data collection was carried out through leaflet media validation by 3 high school biology teachers and 2 biology education lecturers who assessed the suitability of the research instrument items. The results showed that the leaflet of bacterial diversity in fibric peat soil on the submaterial of Indonesian biodiversity obtained a Content Validity Ratio (CVR) value of 1, indicating high validity, and a Content Validity Index (CVI) value of 1, indicating excellent quality. This means that this leaflet is valid and very feasible to use as learning media in high school in the material of Indonesian biodiversity.

Abstract

Musa campestris is a unique banana, has erect inflorescence with beautiful bracts and mature fruit colors so that it can be used as an ornamental plant. this study's objective is to analyze the morphological inflorescences and anther anatomical characteristics of the Musa campestris var. sarawakensis. Plant materials were collected in Sanggau regency. Morphological characterizations were conducted using International Plant Genetic Resources Institute for Musa spp. Sampel of anther was prepared using paraffin method, stained with 2% safranin and 1% fast green. Main features observed for Musa campestris var. sarawakensis inflorescence has erect rachis position and color external bract are helpful to characterize the male bud. Additionally, the main characteristics of anther include the presence helical ribs in endothecium. As expected, tetrasporangiate anthers with single vascular bundle in male flowers was observed. The main morphology characteristics of inflorescence and anther anatomy of Musa campestris var. sarawakensis are highlighted in this study, contributing to provide more information about the characterization of this species in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

Vertigo is an abnormal feeling characterized by a feeling as if the position of the body and the position of the environment around it are moving when in fact they are not. Vertigo is usually treated with drugs, in Singkawang City vertigo is still treated with the traditional betangas method. Betangas is an activity of taking a steam bath with a mixture of decoctions of plants which has been carried out for generations, betangas is also an indicator for plant preservation. Utilizing and processing plant ingredients to overcome vertigo through betagas, one of which is Singkawang City. This study aims to inventory the types of plants used to treat vertigo through betangas. The method used was interviews with three informants (village shamans), direct observation of areas using betangas in Singkawang City, sampling and data recording, making herbarium and identification processes. The results of the study showed that there were seven types of plants used to treat vertigo through betagas, which included, Basilicum sp. the leaves are used, Dianella sp. the roots are used, Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. ex Lindl. the leaves are used, Cymbopogon nardus Linn. the stem part is used, The pucuk used are the roots, geganti used the roots, mensui used the root part of the bark. It can be concluded that plants to overcome vertigo use various types of plants, and for each type a different part is used in betangas.

Abstract

Codiaeum variegatum (L.) Rumph. ex a. Juss is a common ornamental plant with a high variation of leaves shape and colour. This study aimed to analyze the leaves’ anatomy and the phenetic relationship between eight cultivars of C. variegatum which were defined by the differences in leaf morphology. The paraffin method prepared the transversal section of leaves, and anatomical characters were converted into binary data to calculate the similarity coefficient which was analyzed by Numerical Taxonomy System (NTSYS) 2.1 version. Leaves of eight cultivars of C. variegatum are varied in the anatomical structure of the primary vein and lamina. The eight cultivars of C. variegatum were clustered into four. The variations were found in 19 primary vein and lamina anatomy characteristics and the similarity coefficient is up to 0.59 between all cultivars. It can be concluded that the combination of leaf anatomical structures and midrib anatomical characters have notable taxonomic implications for future research.
