Abstract

Abstract:  This study uses GIS to analyze shifts in agro-climatic zones based on the Schmidt-Ferguson Classification in Gorontalo District. The Schmidt-Ferguson climate classification is estimated using monthly rainfall data. For each rain station from 1981 to 2020, the number of wet months (BB), dry months (BK), and humid months (BL) is calculated for 10, 20, and 40 years. Gorontalo District was detected to have five climate types, namely: B, C, D, E, and F. Type C dominated at observation stations during the 10 and 20-year observation period. There is a tendency for the area of type C to decrease while the area of type D increases, and the dry climate types E and F have the potential to increase. Climate zoning mapping affects the socio-economic community in agricultural planning, especially land management and plant types. The detected climate zoning results need to be verified with remote sensing technology using satellite imagery data. This is necessary because the fundamental weakness of climate classification is that the climate-type boundaries do not match the landscape boundaries.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that contributes to local economic development and cultural preservation; however, its impact on the socio-economic conditions of local communities is often not thoroughly analyzed, particularly from a spatial perspective. This study aims to analyze the spatial impact of tourism on the socio-economic conditions of communities in Kabila Bone District. A qualitative approach was used by integrating data obtained from interviews, questionnaires, observations, and documentation, along with spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Respondents were selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, tabulation using Microsoft Excel, and spatial mapping with GIS software. The results indicate that tourism contributes to improved education (48.48% of residents completed high school/vocational education), additional monthly income of IDR 500,000–1,000,000 (34% of respondents), and the creation of new jobs (21.74%) in the trade, transportation, and cultural sectors. Spatially, Oluhuta and Biluango Villages experience very high socio-economic impacts, Olele and Molotabu are categorized as high, Botubarani as moderate, Huangobotu and Botutonuo as low, while Bintalahe and Modelomo show very low impacts due to limited accessibility and infrastructure. Overall, tourism development has a positive impact on income, business opportunities, and the preservation of local culture in Kabila Bone District.

Abstract

Mobile augmented reality (AR) has evolved from an experimental visualization tool into a mature pedagogical medium that redefines spatial learning in geography education. By embedding digital content into authentic locations, AR fosters experiential and inquiry-driven learning aligned with geography’s spatial and environmental paradigms. Building on evidence from 2015 to 2025, this review synthesizes 138 studies to examine how AR supports cognitive, affective, and behavioral learning dimensions. The analysis reveals that AR enhances spatial reasoning, visualization of abstract processes, and place-based engagement when integrated within robust instructional design frameworks. However, persistent gaps remain in long-term learning assessment, scalability, and teacher competence for authoring AR experiences. Cognitive-load and motivation studies suggest that AR’s benefits are maximized when interactivity and spatial anchoring are balanced with scaffolding. The review proposes a multidimensional model linking technological affordances, pedagogical strategies, and geographic thinking to promote education for sustainability and digital spatial citizenship. Implications for researchers, educators, and developers are discussed to guide future cross-disciplinary innovations.

Abstract

Gorontalo Province has areas that are prone to landslides, especially in North Gorontalo Regency. This study has two main objectives, namely identifying the lithology that makes up the research area and analyzing the level of landslide vulnerability in area. This study uses the Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE) method with the use of GIS analysis to achieve its objectives. Determination of the level of landslide vulnerability is carried out by overlaying parameters such as lithology, straightness density, slope gradient, soil type, rainfall and land use. The lithology that makes up the research area consists of andesite, agglomerate, sandstone and alluvial deposit units. Based on the results of the analysis, landslide vulnerability in the research area can be categorized into 3 classes, namely. Low landslide susceptibility class (34.13 km2), medium landslide susceptibility class (66.89 km2) and high landslide susceptibility class (19.65 km2)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Snowball Throwing learning model on the cognitive learning outcomes of Geography students of class X IPS on the Basic Knowledge of Geography material at SMA Negeri 1 Randangan. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the pretest-posttest control group type. The experimental class followed the Snowball Throwing learning model, while the control class used lectures and questions and answers. The results showed that the improvement in learning outcomes in the experimental class was better than the control class. The N-Gain value of the experimental class was in the high category, while the control class was in the medium category. This difference indicates that learning that provides space for students to formulate questions, discuss, and answer friends' questions is able to strengthen conceptual understanding better than one-way learning. These findings confirm that Snowball Throwing not only improves learning outcomes, but also encourages activeness, academic communication, and student involvement in the geography learning process. Thus, this model can be considered as an alternative learning method for Geography material that requires conceptual understanding, interrelationships between phenomena, and more active reasoning.
