Abstract

The better the collaboration in developing a class discourse analysis research instrument, the better the research instrument's preparation outcomes. Thus, this study aims to determine the effect of project-based learning methods on students' ability to develop discourse analysis research instruments in the Indonesian Language Education Masters Study Program at the University of Bengkulu. The One Groups Pretest-Posttest Design was utilized in this work as an experimental approach utilizing pre-experimental designs (non-designs). The data collection technique used was a test technique in the form of a performance test to arrange research instruments of class discourse analysis. The steps for analyzing the data are by giving an assessment score, calculating the average student score, testing the normality of the data, and testing the hypothesis with the Paired Sample T Test using SPSS 24. The results showed a significant effect of project-based learning methods on students' abilities in composing a discourse analysis research instrument for Indonesian Language Education Study Program graduate students. The influence is indicated by the Sig value (2-tailed) of 0.00 is smaller than 0.05. Students have mastered the ability to compose class discourse analysis research instruments, namely making transcriptions of spoken discourse into written text, compiling guidelines for class discourse analysis in the form of work analysis tables and coding, and compiling interview guidelines. Abstract

The method section of a thesis is crucial because it conveys the information upon which the study's validity is ultimately evaluated. The method section describes the procedure, instruments, design, data acquisition, and data analysis, among other components. Students may encounter several obstacles when composing a thesis, including the rhetorical issue. This study examines the rhetorical structure of the methodology section of a graduate thesis. This investigation employed a fundamental content analysis with quantitative methodology. The data was collected from 50 English education postgraduate theses at the University of Bengkulu. The results indicate that five Moves occurred in the thesis with varying frequencies. Moves 2, 3, and 4 occur most frequently, followed by Move 5, with Move 1 occurring least frequently. Furthermore, this research presents fifteen communicative purposes as Steps. 2 Steps are Obligatory (M2S1 and M3S2), 5 Steps are Conventional (M2S2, M2S3, M3S3, M4S1, M4S2), 7 Steps are Optional (M1S1, M3S1, M4S3, M5S2, M5S3, M5S4, M5S5), and 1 Step is non-obvious (M5S1). In conclusion, this study provides information about the rhetorical structure of the method sections of a thesis in order to heighten students' awareness of the significance of the three Obligatory movements in the method section. Students can use the framework or model presented in this study to present important information and construct a strong argument in the methodology section.

Abstract

Translation is important in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting since it requires turning the source language into the target language. This study is innovative considering the lack of earlier research in this subject. A descriptive quantitative technique was adopted in this study. Twenty six students of Physical Education was done fill the questionnaire. This in-depth assessment was carried out in order to learn as much as possible about the students' points of view and to determine whether or not their opinion was primarily poor or very good. The results demonstrate that while students using DeepL for translation realise vocabulary limitations, they also accept translation approaches. Beyond Google Translate, DeepL's extensive application, adaptability, and efficiency in word-by-word, phrase-by-phrase, and paragraph-by-paragraph translation tasks make it a crucial component of the translation process. Students' use of dictionaries is impacted by DeepL in varied ways; some overcome sloth, while others get addicted to quick searches. Students actively verify findings and learn grammar, even if they have doubts about DeepL. According to the study, the key to adopting DeepL is resolving vocabulary difficulties and striking a balance between technology and traditional language learning methodologies. In order to develop digital language training methods, it suggests examining DeepL's long-term effects on language learning objectives and proficiency.
