Abstract

The application of disinfection is becoming popular in recent months due to the COVID-19. Usually, the disinfection is used by spraying the liquid into an object. However, the disinfection process for humans and objects in the human environment is still done manually and takes time and increases exposure to viruses. Robotic technology can be a solution to handle that problem. Following that problem, robot design is proposed with many abilities and features. The robot can operate in remote conditions and full function for approximately 56 minutes and spray the liquid for more than 1 meter. This research can effectively be applied in COVID-19 handlings.

Abstract

The characteristics of the photovoltaic module are affected by the level of solar irradiation and the ambient temperature. These characteristics are depicted in a V-P curve. In the V-P curve, a line is drawn that shows the response of changes in output power to the level of solar irradiation and the response to changes in voltage to ambient temperature. Under partial shading conditions, photovoltaic (PV) modules experience non-uniform irradiation. This causes the V-P curve to have more than one maximum power point (MPP). The MPP with the highest value is called the global MPP, while the other MPP is the local MPP. The conventional MPP tracking technique cannot overcome this partial shading condition because it will be trapped in the local MPP. This article discusses the MPP tracking technique using an evolutionary algorithm (EA). The EAs analyzed in this article are genetic algorithm (GA), firefly algorithm (FA), and fruit fly optimization (FFO). The performance of MPP tracking is shown by comparing the value of the output power, accuracy, time, and tracking effectiveness. The performance analysis for the partial shading case was carried out on various populations and generations.

Abstract

Drying is one of the crucial processes in agricultural production, especially in grain processing. The drying process can improve grain quality and affect the grain content. However, maintaining the temperature is a challenge in the drying process. Because it can influence the drying performance and produce a low-efficiency reduction of water content, in this study, the hybrid drying system is proposed to improve the performance of the forced convection dryer system. The proposed system used a proportional integral and derivative (PID) control system to obtain the optimal temperature. The proposed system was compared with natural drying and forced convection methods. The experimental result showed that the proposed system performed excellently for three performance evaluations. The average temperature was obtained as the highest of the other methods, with 54.68 °C and 54.55 °C for coffee and cocoa beans. The water content can be reduced by an average of 27.38% and 42.67% for coffee and cocoa beans. Then, the proposed system also had the highest reduction efficiency of water content than the other methods, with 62.71% and 36.94% reductions for coffee and cocoa beans, respectively. The results indicate that the proposed hybrid system performs better than the other methods.

Abstract

Weather station devices are used to monitor weather parameter conditions, such as wind direction, speed, rainfall, solar radiation level, temperature, and humidity. This article discusses the design of a customized weather station embedded with gas concentration readings, whereby the gas concentration measurement includes oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon monoxide (CO). The measurements and data processing of input sensors were transmitted to an Arduino Uno microcontroller, and the input data were then remitted to Wemos D1 Mini to be uploaded to a cloud server. Furthermore, the gas sensors' characterization methods were also considered to reveal the obtained results of accuracy, precision, linearity, and hysteresis. An android-based mobile application was also designed for monitoring purposes. The system in our experiment utilized an internet connection with a field station, base station, and database server.

Abstract

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) enhances the efficiency of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems by ensuring optimal power extraction under varying conditions. MPPT is implemented in solar charge controllers or hybrid inverters connected to PV arrays. The current-voltage (IV) curve, influenced by temperature and irradiance fluctuations, becomes more complex under partial shading, causing multiple local maxima and reducing efficiency. This study proposes an MPPT technique using the Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA), a novel metaheuristic inspired by Archimedes' principle. The AOA-based MPPT integrates a DC/DC buck converter controlled by an STM32 microcontroller to address challenges in complex shading conditions. Comparative analysis demonstrates the AOA's superiority in achieving high efficiency and fast convergence. The AOA-based MPPT achieved an average efficiency of 93.17% across shading scenarios, outperforming PSO (87.04%) and non-MPPT systems (84.56%). It also exhibited faster average tracking times of 90.5 ms compared to PSO's 100.5 ms, ensuring robust and reliable performance. These results confirm the effectiveness of the AOA-based method in maximizing energy harvesting in real-world PV applications.
