Abstract

Selfing was carried out on the F2 population of corn plants and the S1 line was produced. Selfing is carried out to form pure lines in order to create hybrids. The aim of the research was to determine the magnitude of inbreeding depression, genetic diversity and heritability of leaf angle trait, yield and harvest age of the S1 line of corn plants under drought stress conditions in dry land. The experiment was carried out from March to June 2023 in Gumantar village, North Lombok district. The design used was a randomized block design, two replications. The number of treatments was 31, namely 30 S1 lines and an F2 population. Plantings are given heavy stress. Observed variables include flowering, growth, harvest age, yield components and yield. The level of inbreeding depression is based on the F2 population and is expressed as a percent. Genetic diversity is calculated based on the results of analysis of variance at a significance level of 5 percent. The results showed that inbreeding depression in leaf angle and harvest age of the S1 lines were relatively low; while the yield is classified as high. Broad categories of genetic diversity were obtained in the yield; while the leaf angle and harvest age are relatively narrow. Broad sense heritability was relatively high in the yield; while the leaf angle is classified as medium and the harvest age is relatively low. The selection of S1 lines should be based on yield, namely lines that have the same yield as the F2 population.

Abstract

Sorghum production needs to be increased to meet food or feed needs because sorghum grain has nutritional qualities that are comparable to other grains such as corn. One of the advantages of the sorghum plant is the growth of new shoots from the base of the harvested stem which produces new plants, ratoon, that grow until they can be harvested. This experiment examines the ratoon potential of 5 sorghum varieties, Bioguma, Samurai, Pahat, Suri4, and the local Gando Keta variety so that we can utilize ratoon technology on these sorghum varieties. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a Completely Randomized Design. It can be confirmed from this experiment that the dry matter weight of the main plants is higher compared to the ratoon plants' dry matter weight, however, the yield of the ratoon was higher than that of the main plants. Seed size contributes to the higher yield of the ratoon plants.  Among all the varieties tested, Suri4 and Pahat show the best ratoon potential. Gando Keta, the local variety, has the lowest grain yield of main and ratoon compared to the other varieties.

Abstract

Selfing is the initial step to form hybrid varieties. Selfing has been carried out for four generations and 29 S4 lines have been obtained. All lines have been tested for their tolerance level to drought stress in dry land. The purpose of the study was to determine the tolerance level of S4 lines of corn plants to drought stress in dry land. Experimental methods with field trials were used for the test. And the correlation between characters and ISC values. The design used was a randomized block design at each stress level. Determination of the tolerance level used the observation parameter of the results (dry seed weight per plant) under mild stress conditions and normal conditions. The tolerance level to drought stress was measured from the Stress Sensitivity Index (ISC) value. The results showed that three S4 lines were tolerant to drought stress, namely lines S4.7, S4.15 and S4.24. Nine S4 lines have moderately tolerant category, namely lines S4.1, S4.3, S4.8, S4.12, S4.13, S4.14, S4.21, S4.26 and S4.29; the rest are classified as sensitive. The yield have a high negative correlation with the ISC value; the weight of dry cobs harvested per plant has a moderate negative correlation. The three tolerant lines can be used for the formation of S5 lines.

Abstract

Efforts to produce wheat in Indonesia need to be supported by the availability of cultivation technology suitable for agro-climate conditions in Indonesia, including the use of proper population density and fertilization dosages, which are fundamental for obtaining maximum yields. This study was aimed to determine ideal population density and dosage of urea for optimum grain yield of wheat in Lombok Island. The experiment carried out at Aik Bukak, Central Lombok at elevation of 400 m asl, to observe the growth and yield of two varieties of wheat, Nias and Gladius, with 4 plant population densities (133, 160, 200, and 250 plants m-2) and 3 dosages of urea fertilization, 200, 300, and 400 kg ha-1. Data from this study indicated that Lombok Island has the potential for growing wheat with quite dense population density of 250 plants m-2. This density yielded higher, 1.74 tons ha-2, due to the increased number of kernel per unit area without reducing individual kernel weight. The use of urea 300 kg ha-1 exhibited the best growth and yielded 1.32 tons ha-2.Keywords: fertilization, population density, wheat varieties
