Abstract

There is a tobacco processing factory located in Maesan, Bondowoso, Indonesia that has been facing a problem of high demand but a lack of raw materials to meet it. Unfortunately, the demand for their product is decreasing every year. Therefore, the company needs to conduct a study of risk control within their supply network to identify potential risks and agents involved. The HOR method is employed to identify and analyze risks as well as the agents present within the supply chain of the tobacco processing facility. The company also needs strategies to manage the identified risks. The HOR method comprises two stages: the initial phase entails identifying risks and risk agents emerging within the factory's supply chain utilizing the Supply Chain Reference Operation (SCOR) approach. Phase two is the stage of determining the priority order of mitigation strategies that can be implemented at the factory. In the initial phase of HOR, 46 instances of risk events were identified within the supply chain, while the second phase involved selecting 27 risk agents for mitigation strategies. The results of phase two of HOR yielded 12 mitigation strategies that were implemented in the factory. These mitigation strategies were then ranked based on their ability to handle the existing risk agents.

Abstract

Ground coffee is one of the high value added downstream coffee products that can be developed to increase the income of coffee processors. However, there are concerns about the increasing environmental impact of the downstream process into ground coffee, so it is necessary to evaluate the impact from environmental and economic aspects. The Argopuro robusta coffee processing business in Jember Regency is trying to be developed towards downstream products to increase the income of coffee farmers. Of course the negative impact on the environment must be considered. The aim of this research are first, to determine the environmental impacts that occur in the robusta ground coffee production process; second, to determine the level of eco-efficiency of the robusta ground coffee production process; and third, knowing how to compare the environmental impact and level of eco-efficiency at various scales of ground coffee production. The method used is life cycle assessment (LCA) with a scope from caring for coffee plants to delivering coffee products to consumers. The impact measured is for every one hectare of harvest. The research sample is a Argopuro robusta coffee processing unit that produces green beans and ground coffee. The higher the scale of ground coffee production, the higher the CO2 eq emissions. However, the added value is also getting higher. Eco-efficiency calculations show that if the coffee harvest (6 tons/ha) is converted all into ground coffee, it produces emissions of 1086 Kg CO2eq and a profit of 144.1 million with an eco-efficiency index value of 97.42 and is included in the classified as affordable and sustainable. This value does not differ if the ground coffee conversion scale is 20% or 50%. This indicates that the conversion of ground coffee to maximum scale in robusta coffee processing businesses is still considered environmentally sustainable.

Abstract

Wastewater production from the coffee agroindustry is generally brown. Melanoidin contents cause it and the high content of organic matter in coffee processing wastewater can impact water pollution. Turbid coffee processing wastewater can prevent sunlight from entering the water if it is channeled directly into water bodies without prior treatment. The research aims to improve the quality of coffee processing wastewater using the photo Fenton method, which combines catalyst reagents from H2O2 and FeSO4. The stages of the research consist of adjusting the pH of the process, combining H2O2 and FeSO4 dosages, irradiating using UV light, settling, and analyzing wastewater quality improvements with parameters i.e. Total Suspended Solid (TSS), turbidity, color, pH, and Chemicals Oxygen Demand (COD). The research results show that adding H2O2 and FeSO4 treatment in the Fenton photo can improve the quality of coffee processing wastewater. H2F1 treatment (H2O2 0.2 M and FeSO4 0.0015 M) is the best alternative for reducing TSS, turbidity, color, and COD parameters. The percentage reduction values for TSS, turbidity, color, and COD is sequentially 95.55; 98.40; 93.97; and 72.47 %. The combination of H2SO4 and FeSO4 catalysts can be used as an alternative tertiary method for coffee agro-industrial wastewater purification which is effective and efficient.
