Abstract

Abstrak Pendampingan penyelesaian soal Ujian Nasional Berbasis Komputer (UNBK) yang dilaksanakan oleh Tim dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak ini ditujukan terhadap siswa kelas XII SMA Pancasila untuk mempersiapkan siswa dalam menghadapi UNBK tahun 2019 khusus pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Tujuan pendampingan dalam kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah agar siswa: (1) memiliki keterampilan mengoperasikan komputer dengan baik dalam rangka penyelesaian soal-soal Bahasa Inggris berbasis komputer; (2) memiliki sikap integritas yang tinggi sebagai perwujudan dari nilai Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter (PPK); (3) mampu mengembangkan potensi diri sebesar-besarnya sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan perkembangan zaman. Pendampingan penyelesaian soal-soal UNBK mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris pada kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga (3) bentuk kegiatan, yaitu: (1) penayangan dan penjelasan perwakilan dosen pemateri tentang video tutorial cara pendaftaran (login) dan pengerjaan soal UNBK, (2) pengerjaan oleh siswa dan diskusi bersama tim dosen tentang contoh-contoh soal UNBK untuk mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris serta strategi-strategi penyelesaian soal tes, dan (3) praktek pengerjaan soal secara daring (online) melalui laman simulasi UNBK oleh siswa didampingi tim dosen.

Abstract

Pendampingan belajar bahasa Inggris menggunakan media interaktif yang dilaksanakan oleh Tim dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak ini dilaksanakan di Panti Asuhan Uswatun Hasanah Pontianak. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk menumbuhkan minat dan daya tarik peserta dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris, diharapkan dengan menggunakan media interaktif, peserta dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan kosakata Bahasa Inggris dengan baik dan benar. Adapun media interaktif yang digunakan dalam pendampingan ini berupa scrabble. Pengumpulan data yang dipakai dalam kegiatan ini adalah: (1) soal tes unjuk kerja untuk mengukur jumlah penguasaan kosakata peserta. Tes dikerjakan peserta secara individual yang diberikan di akhir materi pembelajaran.  dan (2) catatan lapangan, dilakukan dengan mendokumentasikan proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dan foto kegiatan selama proses belajar mengajar baik sebelum maupun ketika dilaksanakan tindakan. Berdasarkan kegiatan pendampingan yang telah dilaksanakan, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa terdapat perubahan sikap peserta dari yang kurang aktif, tidak antusias dan kurang terlibat menjadi lebih aktif, antusias dan mau berinteraksi secara kolaborasi selama kegiatan pendampingan berlangsung sehingga terdapat peningkatan ketrampilan peserta dalam menguasai kosakata bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris mengadakan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yaitu membangun minat peserta didik Kampung Inggris Parit Baru dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. 137 peserta didik Kampung Inggris Parit Baru terlibat. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dari tanggal 22, 29 Pebruari, 7 dan 14 Maret 2020 di Kantor Desa Parit Baru, Kubu Raya. Catatan lapangan yang telah dianalisis secara tematik menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas bernyanyi yang menggunakan gerakan fisik tidak hanya berguna untuk mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris namun juga membangun minat peserta didik dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. Rasa ingin tahu yang timbul dengan memberikan variasi pada materi ajar juga membantu membangun minat mereka. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa program pengabdian kepada masyarakat telah berhasil membantu membangun minat preserta didik dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate how EFL students apply critical thinking in speaking activities and to explore the levels of critical thinking achieved by EFL students in speaking activities at e-COLINK Pontianak. The population of this research was the EFL students of advanced level 3 at e-COLINK Pontianak with a total of eight students. The samples of this research were selected using total sampling technique. The researcher applied the type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The techniques of data collection used in this research were observation and direct communication. For collecting the data, the researcher used the instruments such as field notes and interview. To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive qualitative analysis, which was based on the theory from Ary, Jacobs, Sorensen, Walker (2014). As the results, the researcher revealed that the EFL students applied critical thinking in speaking activities based on the indicators of critical thinking from some authors that had been summarized into six sections. The levels of critical thinking achieved by the EFL students were level of Understand and Apply which indicated as low level, and level of Evaluate which indicated as high level.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the average score of senior secondary school EFL teachers’ critical thinking on profession descriptors in Kabupaten Kayong Utara. The design of this research is descriptive study in which the total sample are 10 EFL teachers determined by homogenous purposive sampling that is taken the full time in service teachers or civil servants only. This research used an online critical thinking skill test in reading and alternative choices form as data collection tools which consisted of 16 questions, specifically for inference, assumptions, deductions, interpret the information and evaluate the arguments in a row are 4, 4, 2, 2 and 4 questions. Data have been collected then are specified into categories of skills based on the average score. The research findings indicated that the EFL teachers’ critical thinking skills in category of highly skilled in 57,5%. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the EFL teachers’ critical thinking in North Kayong is proficient.Keywords: EFL teachers, critical thinking, profession descriptors.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the effect of the Riddle game technique on students’ vocabulary mastery can be an effective technique to increase students’ English vocabulary which is focused on synthesizing six previous studies (journals) about the Riddle game effect. The method of this research was using a systematic review. In this research, the sources consist of five journals and one proceeding conference paper. The sample of this research were six from eleven studies selected by inclusion and exclusion criteria using PRISMA Flow Diagram 2009. The data collection technique is library research or literature study through a search engine (Google Scholar) and  repositories from other universities. The tool to collect the data was the PRISMA protocol.  The data was analyzed by thematic analysis. The results of review showed that overall the students’ conditions of vocabulary mastery were changed into some advances, namely: (1) students’ score of English vocabulary was increased, (2) students’ language skill improved, (3) students’ intellection was developed, (4) students’emotional intelligence was increased. Therefore, students are more enthusiastic and enjoyed during vocabulary class. Shortly, these research sugessted to apply Riddle game in order to enhance students’ self confidence, critical thinking, and teamwork, which are needed for facing the competence in a world of job life.Keywords : Riddle Game, Systematic Review, and Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

This research aimed to review previous relevant studies to see the contribution of graphic organizers method in reading comprehension. This research was conducted using a systematic review qualitative research method. The object in this study were five previous relevant studies that have been selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria.  The method used to collect the data in this study were internet searching (Google Scholar), manual searching, and Zotero software. The data was analyzed by thematic analysis. The results of the review showed that overall the students’ achievement after applying graphic organizers had improved such as: (1) students more creative in make their own graphic organizers, (2) it help them to separate relevant details from what is fascinating but not necessary for instance, (3) store vocabulary, (4) summarize reading text, (5) students’ confidence had improved, (6) the knowledge of student’s text structure had improved and (7) deepen understanding. That’s mean graphic organizers gives such a positive contribution to the students in reading comprehension.

Abstract

The thesis was a pre-experimental research in form of one group pre-test post-test design conducted in one of junior high school in west borneo which consisted of 31 students’ and it was examined with cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection applied in this research was measurement technique. The data were collected through multiple choice test. The pre-test and post-post-test were conducted in order to collect the data from the students. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic. The research finding showed that GIST strategy was effective on reading comprehension, it was proved by the mean score during pre-test and post-test were 52, 88 and 63, 30 which meant that there were difference before and after treatment. Lastly it was proved by t-test value, sig value was smaller than α (0, 00   0, 05) which meant that Ha was accepted. The effect of the use GIST strategy was moderate effect level based on the Cohen’s effect. It was 0, 56 which meant that moderate effect to increase students’ reading comprehension.Keywords: Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text (GIST), Reading Skill, and Pre-Experimental Research.

Abstract

This study aims to develop additional teaching material for XI grade students specializing in accommodation at SMKN 5 Pontianak. The instruments used in this study were a needs analysis questionnaire and an expert evaluation questionnaire. The step is to conduct a needs analysis by distributing questionnaires to students. The results of the needs analysis flow into the development of the module. . Developing the first draft of materials, consulting the first draft of materials to the experts, and revising and developing the final draft of materials. The data analysis was quantitatively analyzed using frequency and percentage, and the data obtained from the material evaluation were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Based on expert validation, this product is considered valid for student use. In summary, Front Office learning materials for class XI students majoring in hotel accommodation at SMKN 5 Pontianak have been successfully developed and can be used as complementary materials
