They were selected randomly from 10 elementary schools and fulfilled informed consent showing they participated voluntarily in the study. A Parental Efficacy Scale which had been designed was tested for its practicality, validity and reliability. This self-report instrument asked parents to respond 67 items containing six aspects, namely their belief to be able parenting children, communicating with the school, helping children learn at home, becoming school volunteers, making decisions, and collaborating with community. Having adequate multicultural self-efficacy enables students to get along, learn, and collaborate confidently and harmoniously with culturally diverse peers in any school setting. However, there is only a small number of research on this matter for the dual types of Indonesian secondary schools. The objective of this study was to compare Islamic and public high school students on multicultural self-efficacy. A 36-item Multicultural Self-Efficacy Scale for High School (MSES-HS) measured the multicultural self-efficacy of 246 Islamic and Public high school students in an online survey. It consisted of cultural insight, communication, cultural value, cultural awareness, and flexibility subscales. Results indicated that most of the students’ multicultural self-efficacy in both schools fell from a moderate to the highest level, except for small numbers at a low and a lower level. The current study found that the multicultural self-efficacy levels of Islamic and public high school students were not different significantly. In terms of differences by grade levels and gender, the study indicated similar results. The study highlighted findings to guidance and counseling services and suggestions to expand the investigation.

This study was the  Quasi Experimental Design with the type of Pretest-posttest Control Group Design. The sample of study consisted  of 41 fourth graders. The instruments were a test and observation sheet. Data analysis this study by  used  t-test formula, comparing pretest and posttest obtained scores.  The observation results of activeness at the experiment class reaches an average value of 65.13 and the control class reaches an average value of 47.08 . The average value of the experimental class pretest was 48 and pretest was the control class 44,2. The average posttest of the experimental class was 70.4 and the control class was 59. The results of pretest and posttest the experimental class were normally distributed with a value of 0.317 and 0.605. The results of the pretest and posttest of the control class were normally distributed with a value of 0.404 and 0.05. Calculation of hypotheses using the t-test and obtained t.count of 3.72 at a significant level of 0.05 and t.table of 2.022. Therefore, this study aims to produce an instrument of competence and cross-cultural communication that valid and reliable. We used research and development methods to achieve the aims. The results of three experts, namely readability experts, material experts and linguists on average the results of the validator obtained a score of 20 and were categorized as good. From the results of the three validators used as input to improve the instrument after being revised the instrument was tested on the research subject. The results of the trial there were 27 invalid items so the instrument test results are valid, there are 39 items are worth using. For reliability results obtained correlation coefficient 0.882 in the high category. Based on the research results, the competency and cultural cross-cultural communication instruments meet the valid and reliable criteria and are suitable for use in Indonesian context.

Abstract

The implication of multiculturally Islamic and public high schools for guidance and counseling was how to help students enhance multicultural self-efficacy using self-learning electronic based-materials. The current study examined the effect of using an e-module of guidance lessons on students' multicultural self-efficacy. It constituted 10th graders of an Islamic High School (IHS) and a Public High School (PHS) as its samples. A Multicultural Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES) was employed to measure students' multicultural self-efficacy before and after completing the self-instruction of the guidance lesson comprising five units of an e-module. The study analyzed the data sets employing a paired sample t-test, independent t-tests, and N-gain techniques to test the hypotheses. The results revealed the significant effect of using the e-module on the multicultural self-efficacy of Islamic and public high school students, no significant differences between the multicultural self-efficacy of IHS and PBS students, and the value of using the e-module was at a moderate level for both groups. In conclusion, using the e-module could provide a functional account of guidance lessons to increase multicultural self-efficacy among students of IHS and PHS.

Abstract

Adequately student multicultural behavior was one of the indicators of successful schooling. Presumably, the students who lived in rural or small city areas had less opportunity to interact with culturally diverse peers. This study aimed to examine their multicultural behavior in the school environment. Using a survey procedure quantitative approach, involved 100 respondents selected randomly, consisting of 34 in 10th grade, 32 in 11th grade, and 34 in 12th graders in Batumarta, a small city in South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. Data of students’ multicultural behavior were obtained by administering a questionnaire, a self-report four scales of Likert. It consisted of 36 items assessing their expressing multicultural behavior in five dimensions.    For data analysis, after managing the ordinal data and converting them into interval data, we used a line chart to display the students’ multicultural behaviors according to their frequencies in each dimension and compared mean scores of multicultural behaviors based on gender and grade levels by using the analysis of variance method. In conclusion, we found most students have a moderate frequency in expressing multicultural behavior, male and female students had dissimilar multicultural behavior, there were no multicultural behavior differences among the three grade levels, and the predominantly ethnic students were not different from their peers. Finally, we recommended the school develop a multicultural behavior program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of lecturers in implementing a green campus in the pillars of research and education at Edupark FKIP Unsri. The research method uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through Focus Group Discussions. The research subjects were lecturers and laboratory heads of each study program in the Ministry of Education (PAUD, PGSD, Community Education, and Guidance and Counseling). The study results show that there is still much that needs to be completed in Edupark FKIP Unsri as a complete standard of park criteria, including facilities: recreation, sports and outreach, as well as supporters and supporters and centres based on science study programs. Thus, research and educational activities can be carried out more optimally. It is suggested to faculty leaders to adapt better the planning process that is being made to the need to carry out research and teaching activities.
