Abstract

This study aims at investigating what students expect when taking a Creative Writing course. To obtain the required data, an exploratory case study was utilized by distributing a questionnaire to the students and conducting interviews with the writing lecturer and the head of the study program. 60 students, one writing lecturer, and the head of the Indonesian Language Study Program were involved in this study. Findings in this study indicated that students expected to learn by having more practice in writing. Four emergent topics were discussed, namely building creativity and accuracy in writing, effective learning methods, available learning resources, and considering students' ability and interest in writing. They wished to write by following the writing process explained by the lecturer. This study concluded that it is required to design a learning model which facilitated students to learn in Creative Writing courses in a better way. The learning model is expected to provide students with the writing process and grammar.

Abstract

The writing of literary works by authors from Minangkabau is dominated by the theme of youth resistance to Minangkabau culture supported by the Elder. Therefore, this article tried to discuss about young people's resistance to Minangkabau culture in the Kompas Daily short story. The research data was collected from four short stories by Minangkabau authors published by Kompas daily and analyzed using the theory of sociology of literature by using mimesis approach. This type of research was qualitative descriptive. Collecting and analyzing data were done simultaneously with reading-record-analysis technique, used content analysis method and heuristic and hermeneutic reading method. The findings of the study and discussion revealed that the short story of the Kompas Daily contained the resistance of Minangkabau youth which included resistance to the tradition of money pick-ups,  to the customary provisions that prohibit boys in Minangkabau occupied communal land, to mamak policies abusing inherited property, and  to the ban on marriage in the Minangkabau culture.Penulisan karya sastra oleh pengarang yang berasal dari Minangkabau didominasi oleh tema penentangan kaum muda terhadap budaya Minangkabau yang didukung oleh kaum tua. Oleh sebab itu, artikel ini mencoba melihat penentangan kaum muda terhadap budaya Minangkabau dalam cerpen Harian Kompas. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dari empat cerpen karya pengarang Minangkabau yang diterbitkan Harian Kompas dan dianalisis menggunakan teori sosiologi sastra dengan menggunakan pendekatan mimesis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskripstif. Pengumpulan dan penganalisisan data dilakukan secara bersamaan dengan teknik baca-catat-analisis, menggunakan metode content analysis dan metode pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik. Temuan penelitian dan pembahasan mengungkapkan bahwa cerpen Harian Kompas memuat penentangan kaum muda Minangkabau yang meliputi penentangan terhadap tradisi uang jemputan, penentangan terhadap ketentuan adat yang melarang anak laki-laki di Minangkabau menempati tanah ulayat, penentangan terhadap kebijakan mamak yang menyalahgunakan harta pusaka, dan penentangan terhadap larangan pernikahan sesuku dalam budaya Minangkabau.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai sosial dalam novel Bidadari Berbisik karya Asma Nadia dan mendeskripsikan implikasi dalam novel Bidadari Berbisik karya Asma Nadia dalam pembelajaran teks novel. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis isi dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan novel Bidadari Berbisik karya Asma Nadia adalah sebagai berikut: pertama, (1) nilai cinta kasih terdapat 9 satuan peristiwa (2) nilai tolong menolong terdapat 5 satuan peristiwa (3) nilai kepedulian terdapat 9 satuan peristiwa (4) nilai empati terdapat 10 satuan peristiwa. Kedua, Implikasi dari hasil penelitian ini adalah dalam bentuk RPP dan Materi Ajar Teks Novelimpulan, nilai-nilai sosial yang paling dominan dalam novel Bidadari Berbisik karya Asma Nadia adalah nilai empati. Abstract

This study was intended to characterize and analyze the portrait of social issues in Indonesian society depicted in Indonesian literature. This descriptive qualitative study used a grand theory of the literature sociology and a mimetic approach. The research gap of this study lies in its specific focus on social themes addressed by female writers and its exploration of how literary works contribute to a broader understanding of social dynamics. Here are the steps undertaken in data collection for this research: establishing the research objectives, selecting novels that address social issues or themes, closely reading and examining the novels, making notes, identifying units of analysis, and recording relevant quotations or dialogues pertaining to social critique. The data were then examined using content analysis, which was conducted employing 5 novels as the data sources. According to the analysis's findings, poverty was the most prevalent social issue in Indonesian literature because people were accused of being political prisoners by the new order regime and hence were unable to obtain quality employment. Crime, family dysfunction, the development of modern modes, transgressions of social norms, population, environment, religious issues, and social bureaucracy issues were among the social issues of the Indonesian people that were discovered. The implications of this research lie in the endeavour to provide a novel contribution to the understanding of the relationship between literature and society. In other words, literature serves as a means to critique and reflect upon existing social issues.

Abstract

It is widely known that Arabic has been considered the language of international communication. Even the United Nations, or UN for short, recognizes it as the world's second-largest and most populous language after English. However, despite the outstanding achievements of the Qur'anic language, it is miserable, the awareness to always communicate Arabic in Indonesia, especially in educational institutions and especially MTS Al-Bashor, is still very weak. The most dominant factor occurs because Arabic teaching materials at MTS Al-Bashor only use Student Worksheets (Student Worksheets), which are considered less motivating for students to develop speaking skills in Arabic. To overcome this problem, the authors designed Arabic teaching materials that are colored with various exercises to support children to be able to speak Arabic, designed using a scientific approach and skills according to the 2013 curriculum to improve speaking skills for 7th-grade students of MTS Al-Bashor Sidokumpul Lamongan. With this design, students can speak Arabic correctly, grammatically, fluently, fluently, and rich vocabulary. With this aim, the authors conducted this research with research and development methods (Research & Development) with a quantitative approach to producing products that teach materials and test product effectiveness. This study uses instruments, and there are tests and interviews. After the authors design teaching materials, conduct experiments, and analyze all data, the authors get a summary; 1) This teaching material product is a book whose text content and method are rated good 76%, which means this book is suitable for teaching and learning. 2) This teaching material is effective for improving speaking skills for students; it is based on the pretest and post-test results, which increased from an average of 69.28% to an average of 81.00% in the post-test. This is supported by the results of interviews that most of the students had good grades and improved.

Abstract

The appreciation of fictional prose can be used to shape the ethics and morals of students. Various approaches and learning models have been developed to help sharpen students' skills in appreciating fictional prose, although satisfactory results have not been achieved overall. Therefore, the aim of this research is to design a learning concept that has the potential to enhance students' capabilities in understanding and appreciating fictional prose. The research data is sourced from 12 articles obtained through Google Scholar, Sage Journals, Taylor and Francis, ProQuest, and Scopus databases. The articles used as data sources are related to the appreciation of fiction prose, flipped classrooms, and problem-based learning. Data collection and analysis were conducted using the read-note-analyze technique. The research findings affirm that a problem-based learning approach, combined with the implementation of a flipped classroom design, holds significant potential for improving students' appreciation skills of fictional prose and can be efficiently applied in the learning process. Furthermore, this model accommodates the use of technology in learning and facilitates group work among students.

Abstract

Membaca permulaan merupakan tahapan proses belajar membaca bagi siswa sekolah dasar kelas awal. Siswa belajar untuk memperoleh kemampuan, menguasai teknik-teknik membaca dan menangkap isi bacaan dengan baik. Oleh karena itu, guru perlu merancang pembelajaran membaca dengan baik sehingga mampu menumbuhkan kebiasan membaca sebagai suatu yang menyenangkan. Suasana belajar harus dapat diciptakan melalui kegiatan permainan bahasa dalam pembelajaran membaca. Hal itu sesuai dengan karakteristik anak yang masih senang bermain. Permainan memiliki peran penting dalam perkembangan kognitif dan sosial anak. Oleh sebab itu, strategi permainan dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu strategi dalam pembelajaran membaca di kelas pemula. Pengabdian ini menggunakan metode permainan dengan informan siswa kelas 2 SD Negeri 16 Enam Lingkung, Kecamatan Enam Lingkung, Kabupaten Padang Pariaman, Sumatera Barat. Hasil pengabdian ini adalah pemanfaatan permainan dalam pembelajaran bahasa di sekolah dasar membuat siswa merasa senang dan riang dalam pembelajaran membaca. Dengan adanya pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa melalui pemanfaatan permainan.

Abstract

Penciptaan novel tidak terlepas dari konflik baik fisik maupun batin tokoh cerita (konflik batin selanjutnya ditulis pertarungan jiwa). Konflik merupakan jiwa cerita yang menggiring pembaca sampai akhir cerita. Tanpa ada konflik cerita akan datar, hambar, dan tidak menarik bagi pembaca. Penelitian ini mencoba mendeskripsikan bentuk pertarungan jiwa tokoh utama, penyebab pertarungan jiwa tokoh utama, dan penyelesaian pertarungan jiwa tokoh utama. Teori yang mendasari penelitian ini adalah teori psikoanalisis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskripstif. Pengumpulan dan penganalisisan data dilakukan secara bersamaan dengan teknik baca-catat-analisis, menggunakan teknik analisis isi dan metode pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik. Data berbentuk kata, kalimat, dan pragraf yang mengandung pertarungan jiwa yang bersumber dari novel Kubah karya Ahmad Tohari. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa dalam novel kubah terdapat pertarungan jiwa dalam diri Karman sebagai tokoh utama yang pengaruhi oleh id yaitu keinginan membalas sakit hati kepada H.Bakir, ego menikahi Marni setelah bekerja dan lamaran di tolak H. Bakir, dan super ego keluar dari penjara dan menyadari semua kesalahannya. Pertarungan jiwa Karman disebabkan oleh perasaan marah dan kecewa, beban masa kecil, dan perasaan ditinggalkan. Penyelesaian pertarungan jiwa tokoh utama melalui membalas sakit hati, mencari pelarian, menerima dengan sabar dan ikhlas, bertobat, dan kembali ke masyarakat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai pendidikan dalam kaba Minangkabau. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif menggunakan metode dokumentasi dengan teknik baca-catat. Data yang dideskripsikan berupa nilai-nilai pendidikan yang terkandung dalam kaba Minangkabau yang dipaparkan menggunakan uraian narasi dan penggambaran data. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca-catat dan penganalisanan data melalui tiga tahap, yaitu pereduksian data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan sebagai berikut berikut. Pertama, nilai pendidikan budi pekerti yang terkandung dalam kaba Minangkabau adalah berkata apa adanya, memegang janji, bertanggung jawab, dan berbuat atas dasar kebenaran, semangat dalam mencapai cita-cita, tidak mudah menyerah, berbakti kepada orang tua, dan berbudi baik. Kedua, nilai pendidikan kepedulian sosial adalah kasih sayang, sopan santun, pemaaf, bersahabat, peduli sosial/suka menolong, cinta keluarga, dan demokratis. Ketiga, nilai-nilai pendidikan kecerdasan adalah berpikir kritis, berpikir logis, dan berpikir kreatif, disiplin, ulet dan tidak mudah putus asa, sabar, berani menanggung risiko, dan rela berkorban. Keempat, nilai-nilai pendidikan religi adalah percaya pada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, mengerjakan perintah dan menjauhi larangan-Nya, berdoa, bersyukur, dan ikhlas.

Abstract

This study aims to describe multiculturalism as reflected in the novel Mengurai Rindu by Nang Syamsudin. Data was collected using observation, reading, and note-taking techniques and analyzed through content analysis methods with heuristic and hermeneutic reading approaches, interpreted using the sociology of literature theory. The findings reveal that Mengurai Rindu by Nang Syamsuddin is a literary work that: (1) highlights the diversity of society—including ethnicity, culture, and religion; (2) contains multicultural elements such as (a) solidarity and brotherhood, (b) gender equality, (c) family values, and (d) sharing and power control; (3) in addition to promoting multicultural values, it also presents anti-multicultural values, such as prejudice and stereotypes against other groups, particularly in interethnic relations; (4) the emergence of anti-multicultural values is influenced by the desire to preserve the purity of lineage; and (5) diversity as a form of multiculturalism can bring happiness and peace if managed well and if mutual respect for differences is maintained.
