Abstract

Breast milk (ASI) is a source of meal that completed all the needs of infants aged 0-6 months. The nutritional content of breast milk has benefits in optimizing the growth and development of infants. The objectives of holding an extension program are: 1) Increased the knowledge of breastfeeding mothers about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in infants aged 0-6 months. 2) Improved the skills of breastfeeding mothers about ASIP. 3) Improved the behavior of breastfeeding mothers towards exclusive breastfeeding to infants. Community service in this paper. The result of this counseling program is transfered knowledge to mothers regarding exclusive breastfeeding in infants aged 0-6 months

Abstract

Infant and toddler mortality rates in Indonesia are the highest in ASEAN countries. The maternal mortality rate in Batam City in 2020 reached 65.41% while the infant mortality rate reached 21 per 1000 live births. Resolution to reduce maternal and child mortality Indonesia demand to have adequate access, affordable and quality services. Posyandu is an access to service which is described in several programs for toddlers and mothers, including the provision of KIA books, anthropometric measurements, supplementation of iron for pregnancy, suplementation of vitamin A capsules to infants and postpartum mothers, education on exclusive breastfeeding. Accomplishment of posyandu evaluated by achieving of all programs. The purpose of this activity is to monitor the achievement of posyandu programs. The method used in this activity is observational of posyandu programs. The observation targets were 5 posyandu cadres and 1 midwife. The observation was carried out at the Anggrek 12 Posyandu which is sheltered by the Puskesmas Lubuk Baja in Batam City. The results of the observations showed that 4 of 6 programs of Anggrek 12 Posyandu had percentages more than 80%. In conclusion the posyandu had succeeded in operated all programs. The results of the implementation of community service show that it is better if the performance of posyandu and administration is accompanied by the Puskesmas in order to obtain accurate data.

Abstract

Ketersediaan pangan di panti asuhan masih dinilai kurang dalam memenuhi kebutuhan gizi anggota panti. Kurangnya ketersediaan pangan yang cukup dipengaruhi oleh keterbatasan dana dan sarana di dalam maupun sekitar panti asuhan. Keterbatasan dana diakrenakan tidak adanya modal untuk melakukan kegiatan yang dapat meningkatkan kreatifitas dan jiwa kewirausahaan dari anggota panti. Pengabdian masyarakat bertujuan untuk memberikan solusi dengan prioritas untuk mengatasi permasalahan mitra berupa sosialisasi memperkenalkan teknologi budidaya akuaponik kepada penguruas dan anak-anak panti usia remaja, pelatihan, perancangan dan pembuatan instalasi akuaponik, pelatihan dan pendampingan budidaya ikan dan sayur dengan metode akuaponik, pendampingan untuk pengolahan hasil panen menjadi makanan bergizi dan sehat dengan menu bervariasi, pendampingan pemasaran hasil panen ke masyarakat untuk melatih kewirausahaan anak-anak panti. Hasil dari kegiatan berupa peningkatan pengetahuan, antusias dari anggota panti asuhan, ketahanan pangan, perbaikan ekonomi dan pengembangan kualitas remaja dari hasil akuaponik. Saran dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah perlu adanya pelatihan lebih mendalam mengenai panduan pembibitan sayuran dan ikan air tawar yang lebih berkualitas sehingga meningkatkan nilai jual.

Abstract

Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) reported that 20.62% of identified food product labels did not meet the provisions. This results in low compliance with reading information labels and nutritional composition among the public. Low compliance with reading information and nutritional labels can occur due to disinterest in information resulting in poor understanding of food product labels. This study aims to analyze the relationship between attitudes towards health and food product labels with compliance with reading food product labels. This research involved 47 students of the undergraduate nutrition study program. Data on attitudes towards health and nutritional labels were obtained using a respondent agreement level form. Data on label reading compliance was obtained from questionnaire. The chi square test is used to analyze the relationship between variables. The research results showed that the majority of respondents (63.8%) had a positive attitude regarding the level of approval of health and food product labels. There is no significant relationship between attitudes towards health and food product labels and compliance with reading nutritional value information labels (p=0.330). Nutrition students are expected to increase their positive attitude towards reading nutritional value information labels through education or practice reading food labels.

Abstract

Obesity in adolescents and adults is a phenomenon of particular concern from a health perspective. There have been several attempts to reduce obesity, one of which is by controlling food calorie intake. Food calories can be informed through food labels on food products. Food labels are a source of information or media knowledge about food for consideration in buying a product. Consumer awareness in reading food labels before buying or consuming a food product is still very low. This study aims to describe the awareness or attitude of nutrition students towards health and food product labels. The research method is observational with a cross sectional design. The results of the study 53.1% of respondents have a negative attitude towards health and food product labels.

Abstract

The Ministry of Health introduced the “Fill My Plate” program as a daily food guide to achieve good nutritional status. The concept of the contents of my plate visually shows the composition of the food on one plate for one meal. 50% of the contents of the plate in "fill my plate" consists of food sources of energy and builders. Objectives and Benefits of the activity to increase the knowledge of school children and teachers regarding the contents of my plate, increase public awareness in efforts to prevent obesity, as a training tool for nutrition students in providing nutrition and health education to the community. This activity was attended by school children in grades 4, 5 and 6 at SDN 005 Lubuk Baja. The result of this outreach activity is an increase in school children's knowledge regarding balanced nutrition. It is hoped that after counseling children will be able to eat balanced nutritional foods appropriately and adequately so that children can grow normally and not be obese.

Abstract

Reading food labels among students is currently important to prevent consume excessive amounts of certain nutrients, resulting in excess nutrition or deficiencies in certain nutrients needed by the body. Substance information obtained from food labels is an important source of nutritional information but is usually underutilized by consumers. The information on food labels helps consumers become savvy about their food choices. This research using cross sectional design. Respondents in this study were students from the students of the nutrition undergraduate study program in Institut Kesehatan Mitra Bunda with a total of 47 respondents. Sample selection was carried out using purposive sampling. The data collection method in this study was through a questionnaire. Respondent’s will fill in the questionnaire given themselves by following the instructions that will be explained before filling out the questionnaire by the data collection team. Data on respondents' ability to read nutritional value information labels was obtained from several multiple choice questions regarding the quantitative information contained in the food labels. It was found that of the 38 respondents who had good ability to read nutritional value information labels, there were 55.3% (21 respondents) who did not comply with reading nutritional value information labels. Then the statistical test results obtained were 0.908. Majority of respondents have good abilities but are not obedient in reading nutritional value information labels. The behavior of reading food labels can be used as a preventive and promotive to maintain health.

Abstract

The balance of nutritional consumption with metabolic needs in the body has an impact on an individual's nutritional status. Knowledge is included in one of the factors that influence an individual's nutritional status. This research aims to ensure the level of nutrition knowledge had a relation to the Body Mass Index (BMI) of students in Kepulauan Riau. The approach used in this research used a cross-sectional research design. The sample used in this research was 50 students of the undergraduate program of nutrition science in Kepulauan Riau. Nutritional knowledge data was collected by using an electronic questionnaire and BMI was measured by weight and height. Data was analyzed by descriptive and regression. The results showed that the average nutrition knowledge score was in the medium category (66.6±12.34). Whereas BMI score shows that 62% of students have got normal BMI, while 20% and 18% are overweight and underweight. Regression analyses showed that r=0.172 with p=0.233. Our findings stated that nutritional knowledge had no significant difference in BMI.
