Abstract

Abstrak. The purpose of this research is to describes the musical ecosystem in Ambon City in the form of a collab between three educational pathways, namely informal, formal and non-formal education as a form of community-based art education implementation. As one of the cities in the world that received the UNESCO Creative City of Music Award, the government and the people of Ambon City are demanded to continue to create and innovate in the development of music while maintaining the predicate as a World Music City. Implementing community-based art education is a strategy to further improve the community's musical ecosystem. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, documentation and literature studies related to the object of research. The results showed that in the city of Ambon, the implementation of community-based art education already exists, but not so visible. After becoming a World Music City, there are municipal government programs through Ambon Music Office (AMO) which involves three lines of education and it has a positive impact on the local community. However, the collaboration has not been implemented widely and deeply in schools that are piloting local content curriculum based on traditional music whereas in the region there are artists and art communities that strongly support the program. If there is awareness from artists, schools and art communities who take the initiative to work together to develop music in their regions this collaboration of three educational pathways will have a major impact on Ambon City as a Music City even without the initiative of the city government. Abstract

This study aims to understand the application of Javanese ethical values in dealing with deviant behavior of adolescents in Bandengan Fishing Village, Kendal Regency. Using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), this study involved five adolescents with a history of deviant behavior and community leaders active in Javanese ethics-based intervention programs. Data was collected through in-depth interviews (January–April 2024) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) (May–June 2024) that explored perceptions, experiences, and strategies for overcoming social stigma. The study participants, consisting of adolescents with a history of deviant behavior and community leaders who are considered to have insight into Javanese ethics, offered diverse perspectives on concepts such as gotong royong (cooperation), tepo seliro (mutual respect), and rukun (harmony) in the context of behavior formation. The analysis results found main themes, including the importance of social acceptance in building adolescents' sense of self-esteem, the role of community support in building positive behavior, and the influence of instilling local values in strengthening adolescent mental resilience. These findings suggest that Javanese ethical values not only serve as a method of handling behavior but also as a tool to reduce stigma and improve social integration for adolescents who engage in deviant behavior. In the long term, these results can be implemented in social practice to develop more effective and contextually relevant models of culture-based interventions. This research makes an important contribution to the social intervention approach by offering insights into the potential of local ethics in supporting the formation of adolescent characters in a community-based environment.

Abstract

Creative music learning strategies are essential for developing students’ creativity. One applicable approach is project-based learning, where students are given the opportunity to create their own musical works. One indicator of low student creativity in music learning is their limited ability to write song lyrics. This study is grounded in Elliot W. Eisner’s humanistic art education theory, which emphasizes the importance of self-expression, creativity, the teacher’s role as a facilitator, and qualitative assessment in the arts learning process. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach using techniques such as observation, interviews, documentation, and creative task questionnaires. The results show that the music learning strategies implemented at SMA Negeri 1 Brebes enhance students’ creativity in writing song lyrics through a more structured, project-based, and collaborative approach. By providing students with space to express themselves and by improving their understanding of lyric structure and writing techniques, their creative potential can be more effectively developed. The challenges faced by teachers and students in implementing lyric-writing strategies are mainly related to the availability of facilities and the teacher’s willingness to adapt their teaching approach. These challenges can be addressed more effectively, although limited time and lack of experience remain major constraints.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the playing techniques of the traditional performing art Balo-Balo, which has developed in Kampung Tirang, Tegal Barat District, Tegal City, as well as to explore the educational values embedded within it. The research adopts an ethnomusicological approach based on Alan P. Merriam’s theory, which views music as an integrated system comprising sound, musical behavior, and cultural concepts. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving local performers and community members. The findings reveal that Balo-Balo playing techniques involve role specialization for each musical instrument, such as Terbang Induk, Kempling, Kempyang, and Konteng, all of which are played collectively without the use of standardized musical notation. The learning process is carried out through oral tradition and direct practice, reflecting a cultural transmission model rooted in kinesthetic and non-written forms. Social values such as mutual cooperation, discipline, collaboration, and the preservation of local culture are reflected in the performance practice. These findings indicate that Balo-Balo’s playing techniques not only hold musical significance but also possess strong potential as a medium for culturally rooted arts education, character development, and the reinforcement of cultural identity within both formal and non-formal educational settings.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: In the context of the digital era, the transmission of moral values faces increasing challenges due to the dominance of globalized, visual, and fast-paced content. This study aims to explore how Gendang Bugis a traditional Bugis musical performance, functions as a medium of moral pedagogy when represented and recontextualized on digital platforms Methodology: This research adopts an exploratory qualitative approach, employing digital ethnographic techniques. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and content analysis of Gendang Bugis representations on social media platforms including YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Survey instruments: semi-structured interview guide and observation checklist. Main Findings: The main results indicate that digital performances of Gendang Bugis effectively transmit core moral values such as discipline, respect, solidarity, and cooperation. Senior performers act as moral role models, while youth audiences engage through affective and interactive virtual platforms. This online interaction fosters deeper value internalization. Moreover, digital platforms broaden access, promote intergenerational moral dialogue, and reinforce the pedagogical strength of traditional arts, even amid concerns over cultural authenticity and shifting modes of transmission in modern contexts Novelty/Originality of this study: This study presents a novel evaluative framework that integrates traditional performance pedagogy with digital ethnography. The results highlight the active role of digitalized traditional arts in moral education. It emphasizes the urgency of developing culturally grounded, digitally adaptive educational content and encourages the integration of traditional arts into both formal and informal education systems in a relevant and contextual manner.
