Abstract

Abstract

Violence, radicalism and terrorism have become a real threat to the human community today. The culprit can be anyone, including young people. Many young people have been no longer open, dialogic and multicultural in society. Many of them have been exposed to radicalisme and have a narrow ideology. This research argues that young people need to be helped to learn to live together with other young people, in open and multicultural and multi-religious communities. Therefore, the research develops a multicultural community model of young people based on the local context and culture of the Manggarai people. The model is names as Nai Ca Anggit Tuka Ca Léléng Communitty. The strength of the community is one its unity, harmony and brother/sisterhood values. This multicultural community of young people becomes a forum where young people from various religious backgrounds, ethnicities, races, regions, etc. gather and work together to promote a world and life that is non-violent, open and dialogical. By joining and participating on this community, young people want to show their roots in local communities, to be involved in the preservation of local culture and to involve local people in the struggle and action to ward off the danger of violence, radicalism and terrorism.

Abstract

This article is motivated by the concern of the phenomenon of religious-based intolerance and radicalism in Indonesia. Perpetrators of these attitudes and behaviors occur in many educational settings by educated individuals. There have been cases where radicalism happens because schools are developing religious education, which is exclusive and not open to pluralism in society. Therefore, this article develops ideas/thoughts about schools and Catholic Religious Education (CRE) relevant in the context of pluralism in Indonesia to prevent religious intolerance and radicalism. Schools can be pluralism-friendly homes by making them a positive space for diversity and a place for humanist dialogical education. In Indonesian pluralism, Catholic Religious Education helps students know their religious faith and get to know other religions, have a dialogue with the truths of other religions, and even learn from other religions. PAK in the Indonesian context must contribute to building the personality and attitude of students who are inclusive, dialogical, humanist, and fair. CRE should not be used as an apologetic tool for the sake of defending the truth of Catholicism narrowly and exclusively. Through CRE, students are helped to become individuals and Indonesians who are tolerant, fair, and dignified

Abstract

The Catholic Church of Ruteng Diocese has declared 2020 as the Pastoral Year of Holistic Tourism. The Church wants tourism to be an opportunity for Catholics to build the common good, and promote global brotherhood and unity. This Tourism Pastoral should be implemented in parishes, sub-parish, regions, and members of the Basic Ecclesiastical Communities (BEC) throughout the diocese. To introduce and implement tourism pastoral programs to the whole people, a Community Service Program (CSP) was designed. The CSP subject and partner were the BECs leaders in the Bethany Community of Santu Mikael Kumba Parish. The goal was for partners to recognize the nature of the 2022 Holistic Tourism Pastoral Year, recognize strategic programs and be willing to implement programs within their respective communities and BECs. The CSP method used consists of 3 main stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. As a result, the CSP socialization has been completed. The target partners were enlightened by the socialization and understood the work program of the Catholic Church better. They were also ready to implement existing programs and develop regional internal programs and KBGs. This program was recommended to be carried out more often, both in the same theme and in different contexts and themes.

Abstract

The uniqueness of each culture is undoubtedly an asset to the nation. However, globalization has made strong global culture dominate and weaken the local cultures. This study is essential for maintaining and strengthening local cultures such as Manggaraian culture. It argues that 1) Cultural education is so natural to man that human nature can only be revealed through education and culture. 2) Local cultural education builds attitudes, knowledge, and skills so that students know and love their area's physical, social, cultural, and spiritual environment. 3) Local cultural education contributes very positively to the preservation and development of local wisdom, and it will be helpful for national development and global civilization. 4) Local cultural education must follow students' development and comprehensible competence and must be flexible in type, form, and arrangement. This study recommends the cooperation and involvement of parties such as the government, the educational institute, and the community to succeed in the local cultural education in Manggarai. It is especially recommended for the local government to provide legal, political, and financial support.

Abstract

A Catholic marriage is valid if it has complied with applicable laws. One of the legal rules is if the wedding is done based on love and the partner's free will. On the other hand, forced marriage is invalid. Forced marriage has many adverse effects, including it can lead to divorce or separation. This study conducted a study on separated/divorced couples at the Rewung Station of the St. Maria Penolong Abadi Parish in Lawir Diocese of Ruteng. The main focus and objective of the research are to analyze the causes and effects of forced marriages in the area. This study found the factors causing forced marriages, namely: marriage due to arranged marriages by parents, marriage due to arranged marriages in a large family as part of the marriage culture within the clan and already pregnant. The effects of forced marriages are squabbles or disharmony, domestic violence (KDRT), and divorce/separation. This study concludes that forced marriage is not only against the nature of the sacramental union of the Catholic Church but also has a destructive impact on the family and the Church itself. This study recommends that marriage preparation be carried out correctly in the premarital canonical and pastoral investigation process. Likewise, pastoral care for Catholic families also needs serious attention.

Abstract

Tourism has become one of the prime movers of development in NTT, especially in West Flores. Local government cannot be a single fighter in promoting tourism. Developing tourism requires the government to collaborate with private sector. This article explores the role of the Ruteng Diocese Catholic Church in supporting tourism development in West Flores. The data collection method used was a study of Church documents, field studies through participatory observation of church and government activities, interviews and discussions with relevant parties. This research is focused on the collaboration of the Church and Government in 2022. This research concludes that the Catholic Church has played a significant role in supporting the regional government in promoting tourism in West Flores. Support was carried out in various forms, such as spiritual support through prayer and worship as well as in the form of concrete programs to strengthen tourism knowledge, giving an ethical and moral to tourism development so that it has a holistic dimension, doing seminars and workshops, promoting wealth and tourist sites, supporting the development of the creative economy, maintaining culture, and organizing tourism festivals. This research concludes that the Catholic Church has a significant role in promoting tourism in West Flores. This research recommends the local government faithfully collaborate with the Church. The collaboration also needs to be expanded to other institutions, including other religious institutions and other social institutions such as tourism actors, indigenous peoples, and non-governmental organizations.

Abstract

This study explores religious education and identity formation among families within mixed-faith families in Flores, Eastern Indonesia, specifically, Muslim-Catholic families. This ethnographic research observes and holds in-depth interviews with eight mixed-faith families comprising four to eight family members. This study finds that mixed-faith families continue to carry out the process of faith education and identity formation for all their members. However, the presence of family members with different religions gives a distinctive character because there are always negotiations, adaptations, and even transformations. The form, intensity, and model of faith education between families differ depending on the context of a mixed-faith family formation, one's position and power in the family, one's way of thinking about religion, and the spiritual environment around the family. Faith education in a mixed-faith family can positively deepen faith, strengthen religious identity, increase knowledge about other religions, foster tolerance, and appreciate diversity. This can also fade away the identity and belief of the minority and even can lead to conversion. However, the bond of family love does not cause differences, fights and conversions into one meaningful conflict.

Abstract

The Catholic Church appoints lay catechists to carry out the duties of the faithful in the five areas of church duties. This article describes how lay catechists in the Parish of the Holy Spirit, Ru'a, in the Diocese of Ruteng in East Nusa Tenggara Province carry out the duties of the faithful in the five areas of church duties. The aim is to find models, forms, and challenges of lay catechist duties. The research method is descriptive qualitative, where five catechists serving in the Parish of the Holy Spirit Ru'a were interviewed in depth. In addition to them, the research also gathered information from the priest and parishioners where they work. As a result, the five lay catechists have played an essential role in five areas of the Church's pastoral work in Ru'a Parish. In carrying out their duties, they receive support and challenges from the people and the pastoral situation in the area. This research concludes that lay catechists in Ru'a Parish have carried out the tri-duties of the Church's mission according to the gospel mandate in the five areas of church duties. Their contribution has been positive in growing the faith of the people. However, they have faced many challenges, including the mindset of the people who valued the pastoral work of the clergy more than the laity. This study recommends that parishes pay more attention to the pastoral work of catechists and educate parishioners to have a more positive mindset in appreciating the pastoral work of lay catechists.
