Abstract

AbstractThe position and leadership of women in the Catholic Church has been a long debate. The church is considered patriarchal because it still marginalizes women in ordination which allows women to become leaders in this institution. This article critically examines how the Church, especially Pope Francis, provides a place for women’s leadership in the Catholic Church. This research employs literature study or library research as its method. This study found that in the 10 years of his leadership, Pope Francis has provided open space for women in various aspects of Church leadership. He placed women in positions previously only given to men and clergy. However, in the aspect of ordination, Pope Francis still continues and upholds the old tradition of special ordination only for men. Regarding this, there are camps that are pro and there are those who are against. For those who are against it, Pope Francis and the Catholic Church are still considered to be gender biased in aspects of leadership.  AbstrakPosisi dan kepemimpinan perempuan di dalam Gereja Katolik telah menjadi perdebatan yang panjang. Gereja dianggap patriarkat karena masih memarginalkan perempuan dalam tahbisan yang memungkinkan perempuan menjadi pemimpin di dalam institusi ini. Artikel ini secara kritis mengkaji bagaimana posisi Gereja Katolik, khususnya Paus Fransiskus dalam memandang kepemimpinan dan tahbisan perempuan di dalam Gereja Katolik. Metode penelitian yang dipakai adalah studi pustaka. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa dalam 10 tahun kepemimpinannya Paus Fransiskus telah memberi ruang bagi perempuan dalam aneka aspek kepemimpinan Gereja. Ia menempatkan perempuan pada posisi yang sebelumnya hanya diberikan kepada laki-laki dan klerus. Namun, dalam aspek tahbisan, Paus Fransiskus masih melanjutkan dan menjunjung tradisi lama penahbisan khusus hanya bagi laki-laki. Terhadap hal ini, ada kubu yang pro dan ada yang kontra. Bagi yang kontra, Paus Fransiskus dan Gereja Katolik dianggap masih bias gender dalam aspek kepemimpinan.

Abstract

Catholics hold Mary, the mother of Jesus, in high esteem. The widespread presence of Marian devotions, teachings, dogmas, symbols, titles, art, and places of pilgrimage in various church regions across the globe demonstrates this phenomenon. This study investigates the portrayal of Mary at the Manggarai Catholic Church, which is situated in the Diocese of Ruteng, Flores. This study aimed to analyze the songs performed by Maria that are featured in the book “Dere Serani.” The central investigation focused on whether the depiction of Mary in songs is impacted by the representation of women in the local culture or not. This study utilized two main approaches, namely text content analysis and cultural studies. This study discovered that the depiction of Mary that is adopted by the local community extends beyond local perspectives and incorporates global viewpoints.

Abstract

The Church bears a responsibility to address and prevent environmental crises, particularly through the implementation of ecopastoral initiatives. At the parish level, the involvement of Catholic Youth (Orang Muda Katolik-OMK) in ecopastoral activities is of paramount importance. This study examines the ecopastoral movement involving OMK in the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi, Diocese of Labuan Bajo. The primary research question is: How is the OMK movement engaged in ecopastoral efforts in the spirit of Laudato Si' within the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi? Utilizing a qualitative research method, data was collected through interviews, observations, and the analysis of parish documents. The findings of this study are threefold: (1) OMK plays a crucial role in the implementation of ecopastoral initiatives within the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi; (2) The OMK ecopastoral activities manifest in various forms, including strengthening the ecological character of young people, ecological diakonia, ecological kerygma, and ecological liturgy; (3) The spirit of Laudato Si' and the example set by Saint Francis of Assisi are significant influencing on the OMK ecopastoral movement in the parish. In conclusion, the OMK ecopastoral initiative has emerged as a positive movement within the church and parish, promoting environmental sustainability. This research recommends that the OMK ecopastoral movement be continued, strengthened, and expanded to other parishes and regions.

Abstract

The Eucharist, one of the seven sacraments in the Catholic Church, holds a central and pivotal role in Christian life. Through this sacred ritual, Christians find communion with Christ, who is presented in the consecrated bread and wine. The celebration of the Eucharist is fundamental to the spiritual journey of believers. When a child receives their first communion, the church marks this significant milestone with great enthusiasm. Simultaneously, parents also take part in the celebration. This article explores the diverse ways in which Flores parents in East Nusa Tenggara celebrate their child's first communion. This research employed ethnography as the research methodology, with observations and interviews as the tool to collect data. Our findings revealed various ways of celebrating the first communion within the community. Among then, parties were the prevailing mode of celebration. Each celebration carried both positive and negative implications. While parties fostered familial prestige, they could also be wasteful and fail to prioritize child-friendliness. Regrettably, these festivals often lean more toward adult-oriented gatherings rather than child-centered or spiritually enriching events. As the conclusion, the First Communion ceremony among the Flores people transcended their religious practice; it transformed into a joyous occasion that involved the entire family and served as a social gathering. Given the potential drawbacks of excessive partying, the church should implement a pastoral strategy that emphasizes comprehensive family faith education and eucharistic understanding.

Abstract

Artikel ini mengeskplorasi kolaborasi Sekolah Dasar Katolik (SDK) Belang dengan Gereja Stasi Lawi Paroki Santu Amborius di Keuskupan Ruteng dalam pembagunan jemaat setempat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode pengambilan data yang dipakai adalah observasi, studi dokumen dan wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan dengan petugas gereja stasi, kepala sekolah, perwakilan guru dan perwakilan masyarakat. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kolaborasi dalam pengembangan jemaat lokal di wilayah tersebut telah dilaksanakan dalam lima bidang tugas gerejani yakni leiturgia, kerygma, koinonia, diakonia, dan martirya. Bidang leiturgia menjadi bentuk kerja sama yang paling dominan dan disusul kerygma. Sedangkan aspek yang paling minim dibina bersama adalah martirya. Kerja sama juga terjadi dalam bentuk support finansial dan pengembangan aspek budaya lokal. Dasar utama kolaborasi adalah kesamaan panggilan, visi dan misi sebagai Gereja yang dipanggil untuk mewujudkan Kerajaan Allah di tengah masyarakat. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar kerja sama dilakukan lebih professional dan melibatkan mitra eksternal lainnya seperti pemerintah, lembaga adat dan organisasi masyarakat.

Abstract

Abstract

This article is motivated by the concern of the phenomenon of religious-based intolerance and radicalism in Indonesia. Perpetrators of these attitudes and behaviors occur in many educational settings by educated individuals. There have been cases where radicalism happens because schools are developing religious education, which is exclusive and not open to pluralism in society. Therefore, this article develops ideas/thoughts about schools and Catholic Religious Education (CRE) relevant in the context of pluralism in Indonesia to prevent religious intolerance and radicalism. Schools can be pluralism-friendly homes by making them a positive space for diversity and a place for humanist dialogical education. In Indonesian pluralism, Catholic Religious Education helps students know their religious faith and get to know other religions, have a dialogue with the truths of other religions, and even learn from other religions. PAK in the Indonesian context must contribute to building the personality and attitude of students who are inclusive, dialogical, humanist, and fair. CRE should not be used as an apologetic tool for the sake of defending the truth of Catholicism narrowly and exclusively. Through CRE, students are helped to become individuals and Indonesians who are tolerant, fair, and dignified

Abstract

The uniqueness of each culture is undoubtedly an asset to the nation. However, globalization has made strong global culture dominate and weaken the local cultures. This study is essential for maintaining and strengthening local cultures such as Manggaraian culture. It argues that 1) Cultural education is so natural to man that human nature can only be revealed through education and culture. 2) Local cultural education builds attitudes, knowledge, and skills so that students know and love their area's physical, social, cultural, and spiritual environment. 3) Local cultural education contributes very positively to the preservation and development of local wisdom, and it will be helpful for national development and global civilization. 4) Local cultural education must follow students' development and comprehensible competence and must be flexible in type, form, and arrangement. This study recommends the cooperation and involvement of parties such as the government, the educational institute, and the community to succeed in the local cultural education in Manggarai. It is especially recommended for the local government to provide legal, political, and financial support.
