Abstract

The educational scholarship offers are increasing to Al-Qur’an memorizers. It arouses their interest in learning English to have an added value in competing at national and international levels. However, the access to English learning is not widely open for the students of Rumah Tahfidz Syafa'at Qur'an since most of them are coming from low economic families. They can only rely on learning at school for a very limited time, while language exposure must be maximized from an early age for foreign language mastery. Therefore, the community service team tried to build basic English language competencies to increase their literacy through structured English learning taught through conversation and storytelling. The students were specified to those who are in 4th to 6th grade of Elementary School. Character-based learning was implemented here by integrating material with character education to build good characters in the students. It was also as a response to the issue of moral degradation which belongs to the government's focus in education. This program was carried out for 14 face-to-face meetings. The assessments included 1 Initial Knowledge Test (IKT), 2 monthly assessment, and 1 final assessment. As a result of the final assessment, they were able to introduce and describe themselves both in written and spoken form. In addition, observations were also carried out to see the achievements of the integration of character education. The results showed an increase in the 4C aspects which include communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

Abstract

Tingginya angka tunakarya terdidik di Nagari Taratak berdampak pada melemahnya perekonomian masyarakat. Di sisi lain, sektor wisata Pantai Simpang Tigo Buayo Putiah yang tengah dikembangkan oleh pemerintah Nagari Taratak belum dikenal secara luas. Pelatihan Tourism E-vlog dilaksanakan guna menggencarkan promosi digital pariwisata Pantai Simpang Tigo Buayo Putiah dan menanamkan rasa tanggung jawab dalam diri para pemuda terhadap keberlangsungan pariwisata lokal tersebut. Pelatihan hybrid ini diikuti oleh 20 peserta yang merupakan warga Nagari Taratak usia 18-22 tahun dengan pendidikan terakhir SMA/sederajat dan belum bekerja. Metode sosialisasi digunakan di awal pertemuan dengan materi pariwisata ramah lingkungan, dilanjutkan dengan practice-based learning selama 5 kali pertemuan dengan materi: (1) fotografi; (2) video editing; (3) penyusunan literasi konten, dan (4) pengelolaan akun youtube, dan project-based learning pada pendampingan individu dan kelompok selama 2 kali pertemuan dengan total 32 JP. Dari pelatihan ini, terbentuk satu POKDARWIS Pesona Alam dan karya berupa vlog promosi wisata kelompok dan individu yang sudah diunggah ke akun youtube dan instagram masing-masing peserta. Selain itu, pelatihan ini juga menghasilkan persepsi positif para peserta dalam hal: (1) munculnya pemahaman pariwisata ramah lingkungan; (2) peningkatan kepedulian terhadap pariwisata lokal; dan (3) peningkatan kompetensi pembuatan vlog promosi wisata.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Padang which is located at Jl. Balai Baru, Kuranji District, Padang City. Two things that become problems for students of SMAN 5 Padang, especially the English Specialization class XI Phase F1 are low motivation and high anxiety in reading English reading. The purpose of this service activity is to increase reading motivation and reduce reading anxiety levels through the use of Digital Children's Literature or digital children's literature on storybookscanada.ca. Pre-test and Post-test were conducted to determine the level of motivation and anxiety in reading in the training participants. Then 10 selected stories from storybookscanada.ca with 20 total parts were used as interactive training media for learners to increase motivation and reduce reading anxiety. After the training, there was an increase of 8.82% for reading motivation and a decrease of 11.92% for reading anxiety. In other words, the training conducted by the Community Service Team (PKM) of Universitas Negeri Padang succeeded in having a positive influence with the results of a significant increase in reading motivation and a decrease in reading anxiety of students in class 11 Phase F1 SMAN 5 Padang.
