Abstract

Abortion is a profound experience of loss and can have serious psychological impacts on women, such as stress, depression, guilt, and anxiety. Unfortunately, the psychological aspects of post-abortion are often overlooked in primary health care. This community service project aims to provide psychological counseling to post-abortion mothers through an educational and counseling approach as a promotive-preventive effort to maintain mental health. The activity was held at Community Health Center X, District Y, for three days in July 2025, involving 20 participants who had a history of abortion within the past year. The methods used included group counseling, psychological counseling, open discussions, and the distribution of information modules. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge regarding the importance of emotional support and psychological recovery strategies after abortion. Participants also reported increased feelings of acceptance and reduced emotional burden after participating in the group counseling sessions. This activity demonstrates that psychological counseling is an effective form of intervention that can support the mental recovery of post-abortion mothers and should be integrated into public health services.

Abstract

The puerperium is an important period, as the risk of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality increases during this period. Hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide and most occur before 24 hours postpartum. Therefore, the birth attendant must ensure that the uterus contracts properly so that bleeding does not occur. The postpartum period is influenced by many factors, one of which is socio-cultural. Indonesia is a country consisting of various tribes and cultures that have their health traditions. Not all existing traditions have a bad effect on health but some have a positive impact on health. Efforts to assist and therapy to shape the coping skills of postpartum women are complementary therapy. Complementary therapy is a therapy that is used as a companion in conventional therapeutic efforts that a person has done. This type of research is descriptive by applying a case study approach. The implementation of this research was carried out at the Pratama Medical Center Clinic on Mrs. F by providing complementary health education education for mothers in the postpartum period.

Abstract

Postpartum anxiety affects approximately 30–40% of mothers and can reduce breast milk production by inhibiting the let-down reflex. Effective and holistic non-pharmacological interventions are still limited. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the combination of SEFT and SPEOS therapy in addressing anxiety and increasing breast milk production in the postpartum period. This study used a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with a control group. A total of 48 postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria were divided into intervention and control groups using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention group received a combination of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique therapy and Endorphin, Oxytocin, and Suggestive Massage Stimulation for eight sessions (4 weeks) lasting 30–45 minutes. Anxiety levels were measured using the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale (PSAS), while breast milk production was recorded based on volume. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test. The results of this study indicate that the combination of SEFT and SPEOS therapy effectively reduces anxiety and significantly increases breast milk production (p < 0.05). The combination of SEFT and SPEOS is a non-pharmacological intervention that contributes practically to midwifery services to support successful exclusive breastfeeding and theoretically expands understanding of the interaction of psychological and neurohormonal factors in lactation.
