Abstract

The productivity of palm trees grown is generally measured in monthly and yearly periods, but on a shorter time scale, it is particularly measured by the plant maintenance of palm trees. Consideration of the general productivity in time is how to produce good fruit fertilizer (chemical aspect), healthy plants, fast growing and evolving (agricultural aspect), and genetic type of palm that grows (biological aspect). However, the growth and production on the physical aspect is still less attention. Through physical treatment, the growth of palm trees can be optimized to support aspects of the previous aspects, as it has been proven in advanced countries on the plant's aloe vera, avocado, and pine trees. In this paper, the methodology proposes a direct current voltage treatment to the palm tree that can accelerate the flow of ions to grow and develop nutrients. The palm tree samples are aged 1 to 5 years corresponding to the provision of 10, 16, 25, 35, and 50 V for each of the ages of the palm tree respectively. Identifying samples before and after treatment by electricity is based on the geometry of leaves, midribs, and ions effect. There have been reduced and increased levels of nutrients. This identification can optimize the productivity of palm trees.

Abstract

This study aims to observe the ability of a thin layer of zinc oxide (ZnO) which is applied to sensor technology. Currently, the low detection limit of the sensor is a problem in its use. Metamaterials offer resonant properties in increasing sensitivity, but their performance is still below the current high modern technology. The high engineering properties of metamaterials provide opportunities for realizing renewable metamaterials. ZnO thin layer semiconductor material as a transparent conductive oxide can provide a wide detection potential. The ability of ZnO thin films to be adapted to metamaterial sensors can be further investigated and improved for the future.

Abstract

Teacher competency standards are indicators that can be used as a measure of teacher characteristics that are considered professionally competent. Teachers have a very strategic role in efforts to realize national development goals, especially in the field of education. However, the goal of education is to experience a decline in competency standards at the end of each year for certain subjects, especially science / Basic Physics. Therefore, this service aims to motivate educators and students at the secondary school level to raise awareness of the education process through the practice of learning science / Basic Physics using adequate equipment and materials. The proposed form of activity is in the form of teaching and learning in secondary schools throughout the Meranti Islands Regency including SMA, MAN, and MTs, and SMP levels. In addition, this activity also provides guidance on experiments and demonstration tools for science / Basic Physics teachers regarding understanding concepts from simple to complex natural phenomena through simple demonstration media for practical tools. That way, teachers are expected to be motivated and enthusiastic in the learning process with a good and comprehensive understanding of the material. So that it can increase teacher competency standards intensively to be more qualified and professional.

Abstract

Composite from oil palm midrib waste is one of the natural fiber materials that can reduce noise. Its material sample composite with gypsum was placed inside an impedance tube, which fitted with the mass of palm midrib mill, i.e., 0.1 kg, 0.15 kg, and 0.2 kg. Next, sound absorption coefficients were measured based on the two farthest ranges of the sound-receiving microphone, i.e., range A, which was 45 cm from the sample, and range B, which was 55 cm from the sample. Sound source frequencies were used, i.e., 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. This research found that the link between sound absorption coefficients and the mass differences of each sample was not significantly affected. The highest sound absorption coefficient is 0.979 in distance A for oil palm midrib sample mass of 0.15 kg, far bigger than gypsums on the same frequency (125 Hz), which is 0.29. In conclusion, sound absorption on oil palm midrib was better because it has higher sound absorption coefficients than gypsum and a minimum sound absorption coefficient standard of 0.15. In the future, oil palm midribs might be widely used as sound-absorbing materials based on their advantages.

Abstract

Advanced engineered metamaterials (MTMs) significantly contribute to modern technological advancements, particularly through hybridization with semiconductor materials like zinc oxide (ZnO), which enhance sensor sensitivity and performance. This study aims to investigate the optical properties of hybrid MTMs and develop a novel sensor medium capable of detecting early electrolytic behaviors of analytes. Utilizing the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, the sensor was designed, characterized, and integrated, featuring a hexagonal multi-cell split ring resonator (SRR) structure coated with a 200-nm ZnO thin film. The geometry of the SRR MTM was optimized using a modified Nicolson-Ross-Weir electromagnetic field function method. Results demonstrate that the MTM exhibits double-negative optical characteristics with a performance index reaching 102. Moreover, the sensor presents dual-band resonance frequencies for reflection and transmission attributed to the combination of the multi-SRR hexagonal design and ZnO coating, with an absorption peak at 8.71 GHz. Testing the sensor in varying electrolytic conditions, such as seawater, revealed a measurable reduction in resonance depth and increased sensitivity, characterized by a frequency shift of 5.25 MHz per 0.7 S/m increment in electrical conductivity. These findings highlight the MTM sensor's potential as an effective tool for enhancing spectrum readout accuracy and sensitivity in analyte detection applications.

Abstract

Optical fiber is an advanced transmission medium composed of glass fibers, offering significantly higher data transfer speeds compared to conventional electrical cables. This study aims to analyze power loss resulting from bending in single-mode optical fibers (SMF) to assess the impact on optical signal quality. Five distinct SMF types were simulated using OptiFiber software at wavelengths of 1310 nm and 1550 nm, with bending radii varying from 20 – 46 mm in increments of 2 mm. The results demonstrate that power attenuation in optical fibers is affected by the wavelength of operation and bend radius. At a wavelength of 1310 nm, the highest material loss was recorded in SMF-28 at 0.0125 dB/km, whereas at 1550 nm, SMF-28 exhibited the highest material loss of 31.963 dB/km. Moreover, an increase in bending radius results in a reduction of bending losses, while a decrease in bending radius leads to a significant increase in losses. These insights contribute to the development of improved fiber optic cable designs by advocating the use of enhanced protective shielding to mitigate bending-induced signal degradation.
