Abstract

Economic growth drives increased demand for resources, placing greater pressure on the agricultural sector. While the adoption of advanced technologies and increased capital investment can enhance productivity, they also have environmental consequences, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Based on this interconnected issue, this study aims to examine the long-term relationships between economic growth, agricultural productivity, gross fixed capital formation, and greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia, utilizing data from the period 1965-2021. The study employs the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) and Fully-Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) methods, and includes robustness checks using the Canonical Cointegration Regressions (CCR) method. To provide a more comprehensive insight, the study also employs the pairwise Granger causality approach to detect the direction of the relationships. In concise terms, the results suggest that agricultural productivity, gross fixed capital formation, and greenhouse gas emissions have a positive long-term influence on economic growth. Additionally, gross fixed capital formation has a negative effect, while economic growth has a positive long-term impact on agricultural productivity. Furthermore, agricultural productivity has a negative impact, while economic growth indicates a positive long-term effect on gross fixed capital formation. Moreover, economic growth positively influences greenhouse gas emissions over the long term. Lastly, the study found three bidirectional causalities, with greenhouse gas emissions as the central figure. These important findings provide crucial information for policymakers, economists, and environmentalists, giving a nuanced understanding of the intricate relationships between economic activities and environmental consequences, as well as aiding in the formulation of sustainable strategies for green economic growth, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

Economic growth in Aceh Province, Indonesia, is expected to fluctuate due to the unstable growth rates of both oil and gas and non-oil and gas exports. This study aims to investigate the impact of these exports on economic growth in Aceh Province. Utilizing secondary data from the Statistics of Aceh Province (BPS Aceh), the study employed the panel regression method, specifically the random effect model, analyzing data from 23 districts/cities in Aceh Province over the period 2011-2022. Estimation results indicate that oil and gas export growth have a negative effect, while non-oil and gas export growth exerts a positive effect on economic growth in Aceh Province, both of which show robust statistical significance. Based on these empirical findings, it is suggested that there should be cooperation between the government and investors in Aceh Province to maximize the processing of oil and gas commodities for export, as well as to improve the quality of non-oil and gas commodities exported so that, in the future, the demand for non-oil and gas exports can remain stable, fostering sustainable provincial economic growth.

Abstract

The government continues to address poverty through various policies including food security initiatives, but the poverty rate in Aceh is still relatively high when compared to other provinces in Indonesia. Given this urgency, this study aims to estimate the short-term and long-term effects of food prices on poverty rates in Aceh using an Error Correction Model (ECM) supplemented by observations of long-term equilibrium or cointegration relationships. The secondary data used is the period 2014Q1 - 2022Q4. The estimation results show that in the short and long run, food prices have a significant effect and are positively related to the poverty rate in Aceh. The imbalance between the actual poverty rate and the desired poverty rate will be adjusted over 3.32 quarters. Therefore, the Aceh Government's measures and policies in alleviating poverty need to be revisited by consistently improving the quality of human resources, quantity, and sustainability of agricultural production.

Abstract

In 2021, inclusive growth in Aceh Province, Indonesia, as measured by the Inclusive Economic Development Index (IPEI), declined compared to the ranking achieved in 2011. Government intervention through spending policy faces new challenges, particularly due to a decrease in the allocation of the special autonomy fund (OTSUS) in 2022, which is set to fully end in 2027. This study aims to analyze the effect of local expenditure policies implemented by the Aceh government, using per capita income as a mediating variable. The analysis was conducted using the Random Effects Model (REM) and panel data from 23 districts/cities from 2011 to 2021. The results show that capital expenditure and social assistance expenditure negatively impact inclusive growth, whereas grant expenditure and per capita income have a positive effect. Additionally, the findings indicate that per capita income mediates the impact of capital expenditure on inclusive growth but does not mediate the effects of grant expenditure or social assistance on inclusive growth. Therefore, it is necessary to improve governance, budgeting policies, and regional expenditures in a more sustainable and targeted manner to promote inclusive growth and achieve more equitable welfare for all people in Aceh Province.

Abstract

This community service program, conducted by Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) in collaboration with Thaksin University (TSU), aimed to promote effective marketing strategies for university best local products to expand their presence in global markets. The program focused on the utilization of Aceh's patchouli oil, a product with substantial international demand, as an example of how local resources can be developed into competitive products for the global market. The methods used included dissemination sessions, interactive discussions, and demonstrations of products produced by the cooperative to both local farmers and academic partners in Thailand. The results indicated increased participant awareness of the potential of local products, with the Inovac ARC Cooperative playing a key role in the development and marketing of these products.
