Abstract

The incidence of stunting in Indonesia remains a major public health concern. Child, parent, household, neighborhood, and community characteristics and factors were strongly associated with the incidence of stunting. Stunting not only affects children's physical growth but also has a direct impact on cognitive development and future learning ability. Bulurejo Village, Wonogiri, is a rural area facing serious challenges related to nutrition and stunting of children. In general, the goal of this program is to raise awareness of the importance of early screening and stunting prevention in Bulurejo Village and to improve the community's knowledge of balanced nutrition and child health practices. Therefore, they can implement community-based stunting prevention measures. The program included exploration as a stunting screening effort and continued with community empowerment through community education and counseling activities. Overall, the total number of toddlers measured in the screening process was 104 out of 107 toddlers (98%) in seven hamlets, which shows an STD% stunting incidence rate of 13.4% in the July 2024 measurement period. The results of community counseling evaluated using the pretest and posttest showed an increase in knowledge from 30% of participants who knew stunting to 75% after counseling. Health promotion is the initial and main stage of the stunting prevention process in Bulurejo Village. Community-based empowerment has been proven to be an effective method for increasing community knowledge, especially regarding stunting. This program successfully explored the problem of stunting and empowering communities through education and training. Abstract

Neonatal deaths are associated with preterm birth complications. The aim of this study was to analyze risk factors associated with LBW. This was a crosssectional study held in Bulu Primary Health Care, Temanggung, Central Java, Indonesia. The sample size required for this study was 69 based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected using questionnaires and semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire forms. Data on infant birth weight was taken from midwives’ delivery cohort records. Mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), hemoglobin level, blood pressure, maternal age, parity, nutritional intake, and serum transferrin receptor data were taken from the infant’s mother using a MUAC tape, automatic blood pressure monitor and blood laboratory analysis by Prodia. Data analysis procedures were carried out with quantitative methods. Descriptive statistics were analyzed as means and standard deviations. Inferential statistics used the chi-square test for bivariate analysis and binary logistic regression for multivariate analysis. The results of this study showed that mean infant birth weight was 2917.68 ± 374.673 kg. Inferential analysis showed that MUAC and pregnancy at a risky age were significant risk factors associated with LBW, while serum transferrin receptor levels, anemia, parity, energy and protein consumption levels, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were nonsignificant risk factors. The probability of LBW in pregnant women with LILA under 23.5 cm and pregnancy at a risky age was 68.9%.

Abstract

Introduction: Dengue fever is a major health problem in 48 countries worldwide. Complications and death can occur in patients who experience shock or prolonged infection. Dengue severity can be predicted based on individual characteristics and laboratory test results. However, previous studies have reported different prognostic factors. This review aimed to identify the characteristics and laboratory findings associated with severe dengue. Methods: The inclusion criteria were observational studies published between January 2016 and May 2025 in the Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, written in Indonesian or English, and available in full texts. Articles other than observational studies and those that did not provide PR/OR/RR were excluded from the study. Thirteen studies were eligible for assessment. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Literature Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: Patient characteristics that served as prognostic factors for severe dengue included male sex, abnormal nutritional status, age 15–49 years, presence of comorbidities, and receiving health care for more than 1–2 days of hospitalization. Laboratory findings that act as prognostic factors include hemoconcentration, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and low hemoglobin levels. Based on patient characteristics, the dominant prognostic factors were comorbidities, nutritional status, and duration of healthcare. According to the laboratory findings, the dominant factors were hemoconcentration and thrombocytopenia. Conclusion: The dominant prognostic factors for severe dengue are comorbidities such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and hemoconcentration. Further studies using a robust and comprehensive methodological approach are needed to validate the relationship between these prognostic factors.
