Abstract

Composite resin is a type of filling material that is often used because it has good bonds with dentine and enamel and has a high aesthetic value. Nanofiller composite resin has high hardness, good polishing, color accuracy, and good translucency. The hardness of composite resins can change caused by low pH beverage. Purpose: To determine the differences in effect of glycerin application on hardness of nanofiller composite resins with immersion of apple cider vinegar. The type of research used was experimental laboratories with a pretest and post test group design. Samples were 24 immersion in apple vinegar for 60 and 120 minutes. Measurement of hardness using the Vicker Hardness Tester to determine the hardness value. Data analysis was performed using One Way Anova and Post-Hoc LSD tests.There is a significant difference in the value of composite resin hardness in the entire study group. The highest hardness value was found in the group with the application of glycerin and without immersion, while the lowest value was found in the group without the application of glycerin and immersion in 120 minutes.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Masalah utama kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada anak ialah karies gigi. Karies gigi merupakan suatu penyakit yang kompleks, yang diawali dengan adanya asam yang akan menghancurkan mineral-mineral gigi. Asam yang diproduksi mempengaruhi mineral gigi sehingga menjadi sensitif pada pH rendah. Ketika pH turun menjadi di bawah 5,5, proses demineralisasi menjadi lebih cepat dari remineralisasi. Hal ini menyebabkan lebih banyak mineral gigi yang luluh dan membuat lubang pada gigi. Berbagai upaya dilakukan untuk mengurangi masalah gigi ini dengan meningkatkan pH saliva yang bersifat asam. Salah satu cara yang digunakan adalah kontrol plak yaitu secara mekanik dan kimiawi Tujuan: Mengetahui efek penggunaan air kelapa hijau (Cocos nucifera Linn Var. Viridis) sebagai obat kumur terhadap pH saliva anak usia 12 tahun. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan eksperimental laboratoris dengan rancangan Pretest-Posttest Eksperimental : Controlled-Group Design dengan metode purposive sampling di Pondok pesantren Nurul Islam Jember sebanyak 27 orang. Hasil dan Kesimpulan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah berkumur dengan air kelapa hijau (Cocos nucifera Linn Var. Viridis) terdapat perubahan yaitu terjadi penurunan pH saliva anak usia 12 tahun. Kata Kunci: Perbedaan, pH Saliva, Air Kelapa Hijau, Chlorhexidine, Karies.

Abstract

Intellectual disability is a child who suffers from intellectual ability below average and tends to have retardation in intelligence, physical, emotional, and social. They are not independent enough in keeping their own health especially oral hygiene, it can affect their oral health behavior. Education that is one of external factors influences health behavior. Education and knowledge influence each other so that people are expected to have high education in order to be knowledgeable especially in terms of maintaining health. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between education level and oral health behavior of children suffering from intellectual disability. This research was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach. The subjects of this study were a number of children of SDLB, SMPLB and SMALB in SLB Sidoarjo, with total sampling as many as 115 students. The subjects were asked to fill out a questionnaire of knowledge and attitude how to brush teeth and performed the action as well. The collected data were analyzed by using spearman correlation test. The result of this research showed that correlation coefficient for education level with knowledge, attitude and behavior was > 0,05, so there was no relation between those variables. Meanwhile, the result of correlation coefficient of education with action was < 0.05, so there was correlation between those two. The conclusion of this research is there is no correlation between the level of education and oral health behavior of intellectual disability children in SLB Sidoarjo. Abstract

Dental caries is a process that begins with dissolution of enamel causing damage to the dental component by several factors, such as saliva. The occurrence of diseases in the oral cavity is prevented by the use of synthetic mouthwash containing chlorhexidie, but the using of synthetic compounds causes mutagenic effects on the oral cavity, so it needs alternative by using natural ingredients that have antibacterial power and smaller side effects. The purpose of the study was to investigate the difference of pH, viscosity and volume saliva after gargling with synthetic mouthwash containing of chlorhexidine and propolis solution for children age 11-12 years in Pondok Pesantren Nurul Islam Antirogo Jember. This study used pra-experimental One Shoot Case Study with total sampling in Pondok pesantren Nurul Islam Antirogo Jember. As many 25 students were recruited for the study. The result showed that after gargling with propolis solution can be increase of pH saliva, decrease of viscosity saliva and increase of volume saliva for children age 11-12 years in Pondok Pesantren Nurul Islam Antirogo Jember.

Abstract

Smoking is one of environment factors which caused a bad effect for health. TheSidestream Cigarette Smoke (SCS) contained in smoke produce free radicals highly andincrease total cholesterol levels. Elevated levels of total cholesterol can be treated withmedicine of statins, but its use in the long term cause side effects. Therefore, at thistime medicine has been developed from natural a substance which is expected haveless side effects, one of which is propolis. This research aims to determine whether thereis a decrease in total cholesterol levels in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) whichwas given extracts of propolis and exposed SCS. The research is experimentallaboratory with post test control group design. This research uses 12 rats which consistof 2 groups (1 control and 2 groups of treatment). The first treatment group is exposedby SCS. The second one is exposed by SCS and given the extract of propolis 2 times aday for 8 days. The total blood cholesterol level is measured by usingspectrophotometer with enzymatic colorimetric methods. The results of data analysisusing One Way Anova test shows there is a significant difference in total bloodcholesterol level means of male Wistar rats (p <0.05). While the Tukey HSD test showsthere is a significant difference in total cholesterol level means between groups, exceptbetween the control group and the second treatment group. Conclusion of thisresearch is that the propolis extract can lower total cholesterol levels of male Wistar ratswhich given exposure of Sidestream Cigarette Smoke.Keywords: blood cholesterol levels, propolis extract, sidestream cigarette smoke

Abstract

Stress is the body response toward any kind of stressors that can lead to physiological changes in body systems. When it’s stresses, it will secretes stress hormones, such as cortisol, which can lead to elevate gluconeogenesis in liver. The cortisol blood levels increase much greater in rats exposed to 28 days stressors. It will force liver cells to perform continuous gluconeogenesis. These can cause damage to liver cells that can be characterized by increased levels of SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic transaminase). The aim of the study was to determine the differences in SGPT levels between male Wistar rats that were exposed by electrical foot shock stressors for 28 days and control rats. This was an experimental laboratory with post -test only with control group design, with sixteen rats were divided into two groups; control group and treatment group. The treatment group were exposed by electrical foot shock stressor for 28 days. On 28th day, serum samples were taken for examination of SGPT levels in both samples by kinetic methods . The results of T-test showed that there was no difference in SGPT levels between treatment and control groups. Keywords: electrical foot shock, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase level.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated level of blood glucose abnormalities associated with the metabolism of carbohydrates,lipids and proteins. Lipids metabolism disorder can increase LDL and lower HDL level. One of plants in Indonesia, that has potential as antihyperglycemic and hypolipidemic agent is yakon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) containing chlorogenic acid (CGA). This study aimed to determine the effect of yacon leaves infusion to LDL and HDL level in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ). This study was an experimental research laboratories with the post test only control group design. Rats checked the blood glucose early then induced by STZ with dose 65 mg / kg BW. At 3 days post injection, they were checked the blood glucose. Then the rats were divided into 2 groups the control and treatment group. The treatment group was given yacon leaves infusion ( 3.6 ml/200 g BB rats ) for 14 days. Then they were checked LDL and HDL level by using electrospectrofotometer. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences in LDL level and no significant difference in HDL level. It could be concluded that the yacon leaves infusion could lower LDL level in diabetic rats induced by STZ, while HDL level had not change. Keywords: Diabetic, HDL, LDL, yacon

Abstract

Caries tissue cleaning can use Chemo-Mechanical Caries Removal (CMCR) based on proteolytic enzymes that catalyze peptide bonds into simpler compounds. Proteolytic enzymes can be found in mature pineapple bromelain enzymes. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of gel-based bromelain enzyme with concentrations of 8%, 10% and 12% against the width of the intertubulus dentin. The bromelain enzyme is extracted using the Lowry method. Then purified using 80% ethanol and diluting become to concentrations of 8%, 10% and 12%. Diluted bromelain enzymes were formed in gel preparations based on HPMC and applied to the study sample. The results of this study indicated a widening of the intertubulus dentin. This is indicated by the variation of the dentin intertubulus width > 2µm. This widening occurs because the bromelain enzyme can hydrolyze collagen in intertubulus dentin in the absence of alpha-l-antitrypsin. Hydrolysis causes the breaking of hydrogen bonds in the triple helix- shaped tropocollagen to turn into strands of polypeptide chains. The bromelain enzyme with a concentration 10% is more effective than 8% and 12% because it is within the maximum speed limit of the enzyme so that the enzyme is saturated by its substrate and there is a difference in specific enzyme activity in each concentration.
