Abstract

Kasturi orange (Citrus microcarpa Bunge) is one of the plants that can be used as medicine, for example to treat coughs, itching or body odor removal. The purpose of this study was to determine whether Kasturi oranges were able to inhibit the growth of Propionabacterium acnes bacteria that causes acne. The research method used is experimental. The experiment consisted of 4 treatments and three repetitions. The results showed that the diameters of the inhibition zones obtained by lime juice at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% were 3.86 mm, 7.13 mm, 9 mm, 11.1 mm. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that Kasturi orange juice is able to inhibit the growth of the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.

Abstract

Abstract Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children due to chronic malnutrition that occurs in the first 1,000 days of life, starting from pregnancy until the child is 2 years old. In order to overcome the problem of stunting, outreach activities are one of the effective methods. This outreach will provide the public with an understanding of the importance of balanced nutrition and adequate nutritional intake for the growth and development of children. Objective from study This For increase awareness public about danger of stunting and method handle it so that it can be done lower risk of stunting in child . The implementation method used by researchers in this KKN activity consists of several activities, including implementing Stunting Socialization and Counseling as well as Providing Dashat Menus to the Community in nggurono Subdistrict which is the Center for Providing Health Education related to Stunting. The implementation of outreach activities was also supported by the Binjai City Genre Party, they sent Stunting Care Genre Ambassadors to contribute to this activity. And the presence of several Family Planning Field Officers (PLKB) also enhances stunting education activities. Socialization of Healthy Eating Patterns with the DASHAT Menu is carried out by KKN Students, by demonstrating healthy cooking for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, as well as introducing food ingredients that can be consumed and food ingredients that should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as demonstrating cooking for toddlers and toddlers.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of mulberry leaf extract and formulate Sheet Masks containing the extract at different concentrations of 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%. The method involved antibacterial activity testing using the disk diffusion method with positive control (clindamycin and Wardah Sheet Mask), negative control (DMSO), and three replications. Organoleptic and physical evaluations of the Sheet Mask formulation were also conducted. The results showed that mulberry leaf extract inhibited the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, with inhibition zones of 6.0 mm at 4%, 9.45 mm at 6%, 12.57 mm at 8%, and 13.95 mm at 10%. For the Sheet Mask formulations, the inhibition zones were 10.69 mm for the positive control (clindamycin), 0.1 mm for F0, 9.78 mm for F1 (8%), and 10.29 mm for F2 (10%). Organoleptic evaluation revealed that the most preferred formulations in terms of color, aroma, and texture were F0, F2, and F1, respectively. Physical evaluation confirmed that the Sheet Mask formulations met quality standards. In conclusion, mulberry leaf extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes, with the most effective concentrations being 8% and 10%. Abstract

This study aims to determine whether clove ethanol extract can be formulated into ointment preparations, evaluate the effectiveness of the ointment in inhibiting bacterial growth causing skin infections, and identify the effective concentration of clove ethanol extract ointment formulation against Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The methods used were disk diffusion and well diffusion with clove ethanol extract concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Chloramphenicol served as a positive control, and distilled water as a negative control. The ointment formulation was tested at effective doses of 10% and 30% as per Pharmacopeia guidelines. The positive control used bactoderm ointment, and the negative control was an ointment base without clove extract. The results showed that clove ethanol extract could be formulated into an ointment after undergoing phytochemical screening. The clove ethanol extract ointment effectively inhibited bacterial growth causing skin infections. The inhibition zones for Streptococcus pyogenes were 12.16 mm and 14.06 mm, while for Pseudomonas aeruginosa they were 10.16 mm and 9.3 mm. The effective concentrations of clove ethanol extract ointment in inhibiting bacterial growth were 10% and 30%. Keywords: Bacteria, Skin Infection, Clove Ointment

Abstract

Sponge symbiont bacteria are microbes that live in marine sponges and are known to have bioactive compounds with antimicrobial propeties. Sea sponges on Bakar Island are known to contain many types of symbiotic bacteria. This study was conducted to test the ability of the sponge symbiont bacteria to inhibit the growth of the fungus Candida albicans. The study was carried out in 3 stages, with were sample collection, isolation and antifungal activity test using the well diffusion technique. Sponge symbiont bacteria were obtained as many as 16 isolates and were successfully tested for as many as 11 isolates for their antifungal abilities. Of the 11 isolates, based on the characteristics tested, 1 isolate (SPS4F2) was obtained with strong criteria (12.06 mm) and 10 (SPS1, SPS3, SPS5, SPS6, SPS7 SPS8, SPS9, SPS10, SPS11, SPS12, SPS13) others with moderate criteria (±6.00-9.00). The results of the study can be concluded that the sponge symbiont bacteria from Bakar’s Island mostly have the potential as antifungals against Candida albicans and based of characterization including the Bacillus.
