Abstract

Acne is the condition of abnormal skin which is indicated by inflammation caused by the bacterial infection of Propionibacterium acnes. The natural one which can be used for the medical treatment of acne is the snail mucus (Achatina fulica). The achasin protein of it has antibacterial activity. That snail mucus was made to the emulgel form. This research has used an experimental method and the emulgel formulation used the various concentration of emulsifying agents and the gelling agent. They were Tween 80 1.76%, 2.44%, 3.12%, Span 80 2.24%, 4.06%, 5.88% and HPMC 3.5%, 4.5%, 5.5%. Other additives were propylene glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, paraffin liquid, menthol, and aquadest. Those formulations were tested in physical evaluation during 4 weeks of storage in room temperature, irritation test, hedonic test, and cycling test. The organoleptic test showed that the emulgel were the milk-white color with a distinctive smell. All emulgel were homogenous, non-irritant, with emulsion type oil in water (o/w). This emulgel also met the normal skin of pH value and spread ability’s range. The emulgel viscosity shift was < 10%, with the viscosity value inversely proportional to spreadability. Formula C with 3.12% of Tween 80, 5.88% of Span 80 and 5.5% of HPMC was claimed as the most stable formula both in room temperature and after cycling test. It was also the most preferred by the panelist.

Abstract

Zingiberaceae have a large number of species and still need research to reveal their chemical content. Meistera chinensis is one of the new generations of the Zingiberaceae family, a local and widespread plant in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. Empirically, M. chinensis is used as a flavor enhancer in food, aches, and increases body immunity. There are no reports of chemical content or its biological activity. In this study, the fruit of M. chinensis was tested for phytochemicals, antioxidants using the ABTS test, total phenolic, total flavonoid content, and toxicity test with a lethal test for brine shrimp (BSLT). Meistera chinensis was extracted with ethanol and fractionated by ethyl acetate solvent using vacuum liquid chromatography. Phytochemical screening was carried out qualitatively by using the calorimetric method. The fraction toxicity was monitored by BSLT. These fractions for the ABTS method obtained fractions 1-8 (F1-F8) and ascorbic acid were used as controls. The results showed radical scavenging activities fraction of M. chinensis fruit was a very strong activity with IC50 of 42.7±3.53 mg/L (F8). The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were 30.72±1.07 mgGAE/g and 8.02±0.48 mgQE/g, respectively. The phytochemical evaluation contains terpenoids, saponins, phenolics, steroids, alkaloids, and flavonoids. The BSLT toxicity test was found to be very toxic, with an IC50 of 5.2±0.72 mg/L. These findings indicate that the fruit of M. chinensis acts as an antioxidant and toxicity agent.

Abstract

Diarylheptanoids compounds from the genus Etlingera have attracted widespread attention due to their various structural diversity and potential pharmacological effects. This is certainly an important part to continue to study, especially from Sulawesi endemic species, one of which is Etlingera calophrys. The fruit of E. calophrys is widely utilized in the Sulawesi community. The lack of information on the content of chemical compounds and their pharmacological activities, so the study is very important. Diarylheptanoid compounds were obtained by chromatography technique, molecular structure interpretation by spectroscopy technique while pharmacological activity was tested against radical scavenging as antioxidant and inhibition of protein denaturation as anti-inflammatory. Two diarylheptanoid compounds were successfully isolated from E. calophrys fruit namely 1-(3'-methoxy-4'- hydroxyphenyl)-7-phenyl- 3-heptanone and 1-(3'-methoxy-4'- hydroxyphenyl)-7-(4"-hydroxyphenyl)- 3-heptanone. Antioxidant properties showed very strong ability with IC50 values of 32.21 ± 0.42 and 21.64 ± 0.63 µg/mL, respectively, while anti-inflammatory properties were strongly shown by the compound with IC50 values of 25.71 ± 0.54 and 15.28 ± 0.66 µg/mL, respectively. The presence of diarylheptanoid content that has good pharmacological activity can support the used of E. calophrys as a nutraceutical source. Abstract

Corn is one ingredient that has been used empirically as a facial skin care. Peel-off facial mask has the advantage over the other types, it can lifted or removed as an elastic membrane easily. The purpose of this research was to formulate a peel-off facial mask of corn starch that qualifed for the evaluation of the preparation and its effectiveness test as skin care. This research is experimental research, that is making 3 formula with variation of corn starch concentration as active substance that is 5%, 10%, and 15% which aim to know optimal concentration as peel-off mask facial skin care. Based on the results of evaluation of formula A preparations with 5% active ingredient that meets the dosage evaluation, the formula that meets the evaluation of the dosage is then tested effectiveness as facial skin care. Effectiveness test using 3 respondents that is acne skin, blackhead skin, and oily skin. Test result conducted for 4 days with a view before and after use, peel-off corn starch mask capable of providing facial skin care effect is characterized by changes in skin becomes brighter, less acne and blackheads. Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which mostly (80%) attacks the lungs. Tuberculosis is one of the diseases that attacks people with the relatively high percentage and can effect in death. This study aims to determine how the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs in TB patients cause bad side effects and how the treatment of the side effect.The method of this research is descriptive with cross sectional study design. The sampling techniques are Retrospective and Prospective research. The data tabulation taken by distributed questionnaires and interviews to the TB patients and health worker. The data was collected at the Perumnas public health center of Kendari, which was 21 patients who were undergoing treatment stage and also had fulfilled the inclusion criteria that have been determined. The results showed that 21 tuberculosis patients at the Perumnas public health center of Kendari experienced the side-effects such as nausea and vomiting, hematuria, loss of appetite, fever, joint, itch, and skin redness. The most common side effects were queasy and hematuria with the same percentage of 71,5%. The treatment of side effects done by giving the drugs information and providing the drug therapy in agree with the complaints. Keywords : Tuberculosis, Side-effects, Anti-Tuberculosis

Abstract

Swamedikasi adalah pengobatan dilakukan oleh masyarakat tanpa menggunakan resep dokter. Survey Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) menunjukkan lebih dari 66% masyarakat melakukan pengobatan sendiri (swamedikasi). Siswa (i) SMA merupakan kelompok masyarakat yang masih labil dan mempunyai pengetahuan yang terbatas dalam menggunakan obat. Metode Cara Belajar Insan Aktif (CBIA) adalah model edukasi pemberdayaan siswa agar lebih terampil memilih obat sehingga swamedikasi menjadi lebih efektif, aman, dan hemat biaya. Tujuan kegiatan ialah untuk mengetahui peningkatan pengetahuan siswa (i) SMA Neg.1 Kendari tentang swamedikasi dengan metode CBIA. Kegiatan dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Kendari pada bulan April 2017 dengan desain pra-experimental one-group pretest-posttest. Kegiatan menggunakan kuesioner dengan analisis data menggunakan uji T-test. Berdasarkan hasil analisis uji sample paired T-test 0,026<0,05) menunjukkan pengaruh yang bermakna pemberian metode CBIA terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan siswa (i) SMA Negeri 1 Kendari tentang swamedikasi.Kata Kunci : Swamedikasi, Pengetahuan, CBIA

Abstract

Kombucha tea is the result of the fermentation of tea and sugar solution using Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) which produces a drink with a fresh taste, distinctive aroma, and contains various bioactive compounds, such as organic acids, vitamins, and probiotics. The addition of herbal ingredients to kombucha tea, such as ginger, lemongrass, or mint leaves, can enhance the taste and improve health. Soropia Village as a coastal area has great potential in the development of products based on natural ingredients. However, limited knowledge and skills of the community in processing ingredients into value-added products remain a barrier. The purpose of community service is to increase knowledge and training to the community in Soropia Village on making kombucha tea with the addition of herbs as a health drink rich in probiotics. The methods used are socialization, education, training and evaluation. This activity was carried out in Soropia Village with the target group of the Soropia Village Family Welfare Movement (PKK). This training enables the community to know and understand how to make kombucha tea with the addition of herbal plants as a health drink that can be made into a product. The training and interviews following teh kombucha tea-making workshop demonstrated that all participants understood the material, with nearly 30 participants answering the questionnaire correctly. After the training, participants were able to independently make kombucha tea with ginger at home.ABSTRAKTeh kombucha merupakan hasil fermentasi larutan teh dan gula menggunakan Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) yang menghasilkan minuman dengan cita rasa segar, beraroma khas, serta mengandung berbagai senyawa bioaktif, seperti asam organik, vitamin, dan probiotik. Penambahan bahan herbal pada teh kombucha, seperti jahe, serai, atau daun mint, dapat meningkatkan cita rasa sekaligus dapat meningkatkan kesehatan. Desa Soropia sebagai salah satu wilayah pesisir memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan produk berbasis bahan alami. Namun, keterbatasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengolah bahan menjadi produk bernilai tambah masih menjadi kendala. Tujuan pengabdian untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pelatihan kepada masyarakat di desa soropia tentang pembuatan teh kombucha dengan tambahan herbal  sebagai minuman kesehatan yang kaya probiotik. Metode yang digunakan adalah sosialisasi, edukasi, pelatihan dan evaluasi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di desa soropia dengan target kelompok PKK desa Soropia. Pelatihan ini membuat masyarakat dapat mengetahui dan memahami bagaimana cara pembuatan teh kombucha dengan tambahan tanaman herbal sebagai minuman kesehatan yang dapat dijadikan produk. Hasil pelatihan dan wawancara setelah dilakukan pengabdian pembuatan teh kombucha, seluruh peserta memahami materi yang diberikan dengan hasil jawaban hampir 30 peserta menjawab kuesioner dengan benar. Setelah pelatihan, peserta dapat membuat teh kombucha dengan tambahan jahe secara mandiri dirumah.
