Abstract

West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is one of the provinces that does not yet have educational facilities for the Pharmacist Professional Study Program, although it already has several Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Programs, one of which is at the University of Mataram. The pharmacist profession program aims to produce pharmacists who are expected to improve health services in West Nusa Tenggara. However, establishing a study program requires a feasibility analysis of the establishment. This feasibility study research is descriptive in nature using a qualitative design with a case study method, namely by taking pictures and describing an overview of the Pharmacist Professional Study Program feasibility study, Faculty of Medicine, University of Mataram. The instrument for collecting qualitative research data is the researcher as the main instrument equipped with a guide for observations, interviews, and document searches summarized in a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) activity. The results obtained the formation of the curriculum, the establishment of tuition fee, the preparation of a strategic plan which is the result of the process of preparing the management, the arrangement of human resource development methods, and the establishment of a special education facility as well as a computer-based exam room (CBT) and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). We can be concluded that the PSPA Mataram University deserves to be established

Abstract

Diarrhea is a major health problem in Indonesia, and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is the province with the highest prevalence of diarrheal disease in Indonesia. Papaya (Carica papaya) is empirically used for the management of diarrhea. This study aims to determine the effective empirical dose of infused papaya seeds which were tested in vivo in castor oil-induced mice. This study used 5 treatment groups, namely papaya seeds infusion 1,3 g/kg body weight dan 2,6 g/kg body weight, normal control, negative control, and positive control capsule x containing guava leaf, turmeric rhizome, mojokeling fruit, and pomegranate peel extract. All groups of mice except the normal control group were induced orally with castor oil. LSIR, ALSG, and DI were measured and analyzed using the One Way Anova and post-hoc LSD tests with SPSS v.25 software. Infusion of papaya seeds (Carica papaya) has been shown to have anti-diarrheal efficacy at an empirical dose of 1.3 g/kg body weight in terms of the Average Loose Stool Grade parameter and diarrhea index comparable to capsule X.

Abstract

Drug X is one of the herbal medicines used as anti-diarrhea that is known to have been circulating in the community. This medicine contains extracts of pomegranate peel, areca nut seeds, gambir leaves, and guava leaves. Its use is only based on empirical data, so further studies are still needed to prove its effectiveness as an antidiarrheal. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of herbal medicine X as an anti-diarrhea agent in male mice (Mus musculus) induced by castor oil (Oleum ricini). Testing the anti-diarrhea effect was carried out using the method of protection against diarrhea induced by castor oil. Mice were randomly divided into five groups (n = 15). Mice in the normal group were only given the preparation carrier, namely Na-CMC suspension, and were not induced by castor oil. Mice in the positive control group were given Diapet® suspension at a dose of 156 mg/kg BW, while the negative control mice were given Na-CMC suspension, and then both groups were induced with castor oil. Mice in both treatment groups were given X herbal medicine with different doses (128.7 mg/kg BW and 386.1 mg/kg BW) and then induced by castor oil. Diarrhea parameters, including the frequency of defecation and stool consistency, were observed and then statistically analyzed using the ANOVA test, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney. The results showed that the treatment dose of 128.7 mg/kg had comparable antidiarrheal effectiveness with the positive control (p≤0.05) and was significantly different from the negative control (p≤0.05). The dose of 386.1 mg/kg showed no significant difference with the negative control (p≤0.05) and showed a significant difference with the dose of 128.7 mg/kg and the positive control. From this study, it can be concluded that herbal medicine X has an anti-diarrheal effect and that a dose of 128.7 mg/kg BW shows the best anti-diarrheal effect.

Abstract

The use of experimental animals in drug research needs to be done before testing on humans. The increase in the use of experimental animals and ethical demands in pharmaceutical research have encouraged an increase in the capacity of laboratory staff in a sustainable manner, including in the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Animal welfare greatly influences research results. The concept of welfare in question is "Five Freedom". In addition, the principles of replacement, reduction, refinement must also be fulfilled. This needs to be considered in order to get valid research results. The purpose of this activity is to train and support the basic knowledge and skills of laboratory assistants in handling experimental animals at Pharmacy colleges in West Nusa Tenggara. The training was conducted at the pharmacology laboratory of the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Mataram. The training begins with giving the participants a pretest, followed by delivery of materials and workshops to increase knowledge regarding the process of handling experimental animals, then ends with the participants filling out the posttest. After delivering the material and workshops, an increase in evaluation results was obtained in the form of an increase in the posttest scores of the participants related to knowledge about the material handling of the experimental animals presented. The average pretest score was 63.00 ± 21.11 with a score of 20.00 (lowest) and 90.00 (highest), experiencing an increase in knowledge based on the posttest average score of 74.00 ± 14.97 with a score of 60.00 (lowest) and 100.00 (highest). Conclusion: This training activity can increase the knowledge and skills of laboratory assistants at various pharmaceutical colleges in NTB regarding the basic handling of experimental animals.

Abstract

The ability to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and deal with illness and disability with or without the assistance of a healthcare provider is known as self-care. Irrational self-medication can have a variety of harmful effects. The government has taken action to reduce the unjustified use of medicine for self-medication. However, The distribution of this program, particularly in Islamic residential schools and religious institutions, needs to be more equitable. As an Islamic youth organization under the Nahdlatul Ulama, Fatayat is expected to assist in helping the community use medicine carefully. The program was held on November 13, 2022, at Musholla Umi Wartiah Sekarbela. Lectures, facilitated discussions, and guidance with worksheet completion made the learning method. Classical methods are used for material provision, and the team provides group coaching. The attendees were engaged in each session, following along closely and actively participating in the discussion. This program's key messages are that multiple drugs can have the same indication/efficacy and that different drug names can have the same active component. This activity aims to make participants aware of how critical it is to check the drug packaging to verify the active components and indications

Abstract

The COVID-19 vaccination program began in Indonesia in 2020, but it is still unknown how well it has been received by particular communities in places like the West Nusa Tenggara region's Islamic boarding schools. This research aimed to identify the characteristics and factors that contribute to the COVID-19 vaccine's acceptance at the Nurul Islam Sekarbela Islamic Boarding School. In August 2022, a cross-sectional survey was conducted on a stratified random sample of chosen boarding school students using a validated questionnaire. Data on demographic factors, COVID-19 history, religious acceptance, and opinions were all examined descriptively. A total of 124 students, or 62%, gave their informed permission. Based on the findings, it was determined that the Nurul Islam Sekarbela Islamic Boarding School's level of acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine is still considered low (35%) and in doubt (65%). Acceptance of vaccines is mostly influenced by efficacy, safety, and family recommendations. Acceptance of vaccines is impeded by the dominant fatalistic religious mindset.
