Abstract

This research started with the idea that many Japanese are not concerned with religious status. The Ippen monks in the 13th century made the concept of religion simpler for Japanese society through the use of amulets as religious symbols that were finally accepted by Japanese society. This study aims to determine the meaning, motives, and influence of amulets on the attitude and behavior of Japanese using qualitative methods with phenomenology approach and the theory of symbolic interaction. Data analysis techniques were in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The results of this study show that the amulets have a deep meaning including happiness, academic achievement, safety travel, health, success, and security. While the reason for having an amulet is to avoid danger and maintain safety, grow self-esteem, pass the test, be able to enter university, as a guard and protector, or to find a partner to get married. Religion, sex, and age influence Their attitude and behavior in the meaning of amulets. So it can be concluded that the view of the Japanese on the meaning of religion is not so important. They still carry God in their lives through the simplest way of omamori as a religious symbol in their self-concept.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the transformation and continuity of traditional wedding customs among the Malay community in Olak Kemang Village, Jambi. Traditional wedding ceremonies reflect the cultural values and social identity of the Malay people, passed down through generations. However, modernization has brought about adaptations in its practice. This research employs a qualitative ethnographic approach through field observations, interviews with traditional leaders, and documentation of wedding ceremonies. The results show that several traditional elements, such as the berinai ritual and the menyambut besan ceremony, have been simplified, while cultural symbols like wedding attire and traditional music remain preserved as identity markers of the Jambi Malays. Modernization affects the form of performance, yet social values such as mutual cooperation, respect for elders, and communal harmony remain at the core.

Abstract

Building strategic feasibility towards improving the quality of higher education institutions is a must for every higher education institution so that they are able to compete and adapt to various dynamics of contestation, technological change, as well as socio-economic and cultural changes. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study design at UII Yogyakarta, as one of the oldest private universities in Indonesia. Data were collected through interviews, documentation and direct observation. The findings show that the implementation of the internal quality assurance system in UII Yogyakarta is carried out through an ongoing process phase that improves the quality of the education process through decision making, implementation, evaluation, management and improvement. The SPMI cycle consists of nine steps or stages, namely: standard setting process, implementation, and monitoring of a project which are essential to ensuring quality, self-evaluation and internal quality audit which are also important ways to ensure that the project remains on track., formulation of corrections, and in order to improve the quality of service delivered to stakeholders, it is important to ensure that everyone is satisfied with the results.. Utilization of the results of the implementation of SPMI at UII Yogyakarta is carried out internally to improve the performance of study programs.
