Abstract

This This study aims to analyze the role of the Akkon Jejama Group Gambus Orchestra as a form of community-based music education in Giham Balak Village, West Lampung. The focus of the research includes the learning system, the process of knowledge transmission, the role of the community, and the educational values contained in musical activities. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the learning process in the community takes place informally through direct practice, imitation methods, and interactions between senior players and the younger generation. The community acts as an open and inclusive learning environment, thus supporting the natural development of members' musical abilities. In addition, the existence of the Akkon Jejama Group Gambus Orchestra also contributes to the preservation of local culture through the ongoing involvement of the younger generation. This study contributes to the study of community-based music education by demonstrating that traditional arts communities can function as effective learning spaces and as a means of preserving local culture. Thus, community-based music education in this group serves as an alternative learning model that supports the development of musical skills, strengthening social values, and the sustainability of traditional arts.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to strengthen language and arts learning among the student learning community of the Department of Language and Arts Education (JPBS), FKIP, University of Lampung, through a deep learning approach. The program was motivated by prevailing surface learning orientations among pre-service teacher students, characterized by memorization and information reproduction without meaningful understanding. It was implemented as a one-day workshop (August 7, 2026) attended by 25 students from Indonesian Language and Literature, Music, and Lampung Language Education study programs, using conceptual lectures, critical discourse analysis, aesthetic exploration, and a collaborative poetry musicalization project. Evaluation used gamification-based pretest-posttest via Kahoot. Results showed significant improvement: correct answers rose from 36% to 84%, a gain of 48 points. Qualitative reflections indicated a shift toward more critical, reflective, and integrative learning. The program produced a deep learning-based community strengthening model applicable to similar contexts.

Abstract

At its core, performance-based learning is an important aspect of music education in the classroom. Performance provides students with additional opportunities beyond artistic expression to bond and engage with their peers. This project seeks to identify how performance-based learning cultivates relationships with a primary emphasis on students who are socially oriented. Through observations, interviews, and reflections, the research shows that students’ informal socialization during performance builds their musicianship, makes them more communicative and better collaborative partners. The results indicate that the more performance opportunities are arranged and the more unplanned socialization is tolerated, the better students are at musicianship and the better their relationships with peers. This study shows the importance of using performance as an opportunity for learning that links the formal and informal aspects of teaching and socialization, and provides substantial information on performance for the construction of the music curriculum.
