Abstract

This study examines how well State Junior High School 4 Purworejo pupils’ descriptive writing abilities are improved by peer instruction based on deep learning. While prior research has looked at peer teaching to improve collaborative learning and deep learning to foster higher order thinking, there are still few studies that combine both strategies in the context of descriptive text writing. This gap makes the current study a unique contribution. A quasi experimental non equivalent control group design was combined with a qualitative examination of students’ views in a mixed method methodology. Purposive sampling was used to choose 60 students, who were split evenly between the experimental and control groups. An analytical rubric comprising topic, structure, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics was used to assess writing skills. Compared to the control group (74.2), the experimental group’s mean posttest score was higher (83.4). The superior efficacy of the suggested model was demonstrated by an independent t-test, which yielded a significant value of 0.003 (p< 0.05). Students in the experimental group reported more knowledge (87%), greater writing confidence (81%), and higher motivation (90%), according to qualitative results from surveys and interviews. These findings demonstrate that incorporating deep learning concepts knowledge construction, reflective inquiry, and meaningful collaboration into peer instruction provides a pedagogically sound and theoretically sound strategy for enhancing descriptive writing abilities.

Abstract

Students' low ecological awareness and social care pose a serious challenge to the sustainability of character education in schools. Environmentally oriented literary works can function as contextual learning media to effectively foster environmental and social care values. This study aims to identify the aspects of natural ecology and cultural ecology in the novel Kresek Hitam by Honey Dee and to describe their implementation in high school character education. This research utilized a qualitative descriptive design with a literary ecology approach. The research data consisted of lingual units such as words, phrases, clauses, and sentences reflecting human-environment interactions in the novel Kresek Hitam. Data collection techniques were carried out through reading and note-taking methods, while data analysis adopted content analysis. The results indicated that the novel Kresek Hitam represents two main aspects of literary ecology: natural ecology, which depicts extreme tropical climate conditions, spatial boundaries, and the geographical landscape of Samarinda City; and cultural ecology, which reflects the shift to digital transportation modes, social mutual assistance norms, and the work ethic of urban communities. These ecological values demonstrate strong relevance as contextual instructional materials for implementing environmental and social care character education for senior high school students. ABSTRAK Rendahnya kesadaran ekologis dan kepedulian sosial di kalangan peserta didik menjadi tantangan serius bagi keberlanjutan pendidikan karakter di sekolah. Karya sastra berorientasi lingkungan dapat difungsikan sebagai media pembelajaran kontekstual untuk menumbuhkan nilai-nilai karakter peduli lingkungan dan peduli sosial secara efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi aspek ekologi alam dan ekologi budaya dalam novel Kresek Hitam karya Honey Dee serta mendeskripsikan implementasinya terhadap pendidikan karakter siswa SMA. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan ekologi sastra. Data penelitian berupa unit lingual seperti kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat yang mencerminkan interaksi manusia dengan lingkungan dalam novel Kresek Hitam. Teknik pengumpulan data dilaksanakan melalui metode simak dan teknik catat, sedangkan teknik analisis data mengadopsi teknik analisis isi (content analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Kresek Hitam merepresentasikan dua aspek utama ekologi sastra, yaitu ekologi alam yang menggambarkan kondisi iklim tropis ekstrem, batas wilayah, dan lanskap geografis Kota Samarinda, serta ekologi budaya yang merefleksikan pergeseran moda transportasi digital, norma gotong royong, dan etos kerja masyarakat perkotaan. Nilai-nilai ekologis tersebut memiliki relevansi kuat sebagai bahan ajar kontekstual dalam mengimplementasikan pendidikan karakter peduli lingkungan dan peduli sosial bagi siswa di jenjang SMA.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the didactic values contained in the novel Nonik Jamu by Rina. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with a data source in the form of the novel Nonik Jamu by Rina Suryakusuma. The data collection technique used is the note-taking technique. The focus of this research study is the didactic values that appear in the plot, characters, and conflicts that shape the development of characters in the story. The results of the study show 12 didactic values contained in the novel, namely the values of helping others, empathy, honesty, tolerance, respect for others, persistence and tenacity, sharing, usefulness, repaying evil with goodness, prioritizing good from bad, danger of evil, and the quality of good deeds. These values are conveyed subtly through the experiences of the main characters in dealing with various life problems, so as to provide moral lessons that are easy for readers to understand. This research has many benefits for life because the values found can be used as character learning materials in daily life. This novel also emphasizes the importance of courage, sincerity, and strong determination in facing social challenges, thus inspiring readers to be wiser in their attitudes and actions.
