Abstract

The SMIB model with a PSS optimized through the BSA is employed in this research to investigate the improvement of electrical power system stability. The performance of both open-loop and closed-loop systems is evaluated through frequency domain analysis. System stability and control efficacy are evaluated through key metrics such as gain and phase margins, resonance peaks, and robustness parameters. Simulation outcomes reveal marked enhancements in the optimized configuration. In particular, the phase margin is negative, suggesting instability, and the open-loop gain margin is infinite in the absence of PSS. The introduction of the BSA-optimized PSS leads to a gain margin of 27.96 dB and an infinite phase margin, which satisfy the design specifications. The closed-loop bandwidth surpasses 7.11 rad/s, with the resonance peak maintained between 1.0 and 1.5, allowing for prompt transient response and robust performance. This study underscores BSA's effectiveness in fine-tuning PSS parameters, yielding enhanced system stability and attenuation of low-frequency oscillations. These results contribute to the development of advanced robust control methodologies in power systems.

Abstract

This study evaluates the transient performance of a hydraulic Load Frequency Control (LFC) system configured with a single controller and without a governor. The analysis focuses on rise time, peak time, settling time, and overshoot, using various controllers including PI, PD, PID, PDF, and PIDF. Simulation results indicate that eliminating the governor significantly enhances system responsiveness and reduces overshoot, particularly when using the PDF controller. Quantitative analysis shows that the PDF controller achieves 85% faster rise time (0.101s vs 0.607s for P controller) and maintains system stability with minimal overshoot (1.765% for PID vs 59.263% for P controller). This configuration enables for a more direct and efficient control response to load fluctuations, improving system stability. Thus, employing a single controller without a governor presents a promising alternative for frequency regulation in hydraulic LFC systems under dynamic load conditions. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for optimizing controller selection and configuration in practical implementations, providing guidance for engineers and researchers to enhance grid reliability, operational efficiency, and stability in various real-world hydraulic power system scenarios.

Abstract

This study aims to design and analyze a Load Frequency Control (LFC) system for a power plant with a reheat turbine, using PID-based controllers with various filter configurations to optimize frequency stability under load fluctuations. A series of PID, PD, and PDF controllers is implemented and tested through MATLAB simulations, focusing on key dynamic performance indicators such as rise time, peak time, settling time, and maximum overshoot. The findings reveal that PD and PDF controllers—particularly those that omit droop characteristics and incorporate filters—consistently outperform conventional PID controllers regarding faster response and improved transient stability. The integration of filters plays a crucial role in dampening oscillations and reducing overshoot, which is essential in maintaining system robustness during load disturbances. However, the study also identifies that the absence of droop control introduces limitations in achieving steady-state accuracy. Despite improvements in dynamic performance, the system continues to exhibit steady-state deviations, highlighting a trade-off between transient responsiveness and long-term stability. This underscores the need for hybrid or adaptive control strategies that combine fast response benefits with droop-based steady-state correction. The study contributes valuable insights toward developing more resilient and efficient frequency control mechanisms in modern power generation systems.

Abstract

This study meticulously investigates the design and analysis of a Load Frequency Control (LFC) system tailored explicitly for hydraulic power systems by employing diverse configurations of PID controllers, namely Proportional (P), Proportional-Integral (PI), Proportional-Derivative (PD), Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID), Proportional-Derivative-Fractional (PDF), and Proportional-Integral-Derivative-Fractional (PIDF). The primary objective of this exploration is to improve frequency stability in response to various load fluctuations typical in hydraulic systems. A comprehensive evaluation of each controller's performance is conducted through extensive MATLAB simulations, focusing on critical performance metrics such as rise time, peak time, steady-state time, and maximum overshoot. The findings reveal that the PD and PDF controllers exhibit superior response characteristics, offering the fastest and most stable outcomes regardless of whether droop characteristics are utilized or filtering techniques are introduced. Although the implementation of filters significantly mitigates overshoot, it is evident that controllers incorporating droop characteristics tend to compromise optimal steady-state time stability. The overall analysis underscores the PD and PDF controllers as the preeminent solutions for ensuring frequency stability in hydraulic LFC systems, especially under abrupt and substantial load changes, thus positioning them as vital tools in enhancing hydraulic power system reliability and efficiency.

Abstract

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) is a pregnancy complication that is often overlooked as it is typically considered normal. If HG is not properly treated, nutrition will not be fulfilled which can negatively affect maternal and fetal health and even maternal and fetal death. The exact cause of HG is not identified, so there are no effective preventive methods. However early detection can help for prompt and appropriate treatment. Therefore, a monitoring system for pregnancy conditions was designed for HG early detection. This system employs the MPX5050 DP pressure sensor for measuring blood pressure, the MAX30100 for assessing maternal heart rate and oxygen saturation, the MAX4466 sensor for monitoring fetal heart rate, and an expert system using the certainty factor method to diagnose the probability of hyperemesis gravidarum. The expert system achieves an accuracy of 93.33%. In comparison to the aneroid sphygmomanometer, the designed sphygmomanometer reveals a mean difference of 3.5 mmHg for diastolic pressure, with a standard deviation below 8 mmHg for both systolic and diastolic pressures. The measurement of heart rate and oxygen saturation has a deviation of 1.8 % and 1.02 % respectively. These deviations align with the standards specified by the Ministry of Health for medical devices. For the fetal heart rate, the mean deviation is 3.4 bpm, and the measurement error is 2.38%. Thus, this system can be utilized to monitor pregnancy conditions, enabling the early detection of hyperemesis gravidarum
