Abstract

Oryctes rhinoceros is one of the main pests in oil palm crops. Such pest attacks can reduce production until 69%, even causing 25% of young plants to die. Control efforts conducted by smallholders or large companies generally use synthetic insecticides. To reduce the effects of synthetic insecticides, one of the alternatives that can be used in the technique of pest control O. rhinoceros is by the used of natural insecticides. One of the plants that can be used as a natural insecticides is piper betle forest (Piper aduncum L.).This research aims to intended to find out the ability of the extract of piper betle forest in extermination larvae O. rhinoceros of oil palm crops. The research was start since March 2017 to June 2017 at the Pest Laboratory Plants and Experiment Station Technical Implementation Unit Agriculture Faculty University of Riau. Experimentally using Completely Randomized Factorial Design (RAL) with three factor and five replications were used in the research. The first factor were S1 (Flour leaf of piper bettle), second S2 (Flour fruit of piper bettle), and S3 (Flour twig of piper bettle). Each unit of the experiment uses two methods application. The first method is application of food mixing and the second is application of watering method. The result showed that flour fruit of piper bettle with the application food mixing method and application of watering method with two method can to murder up to 92% and 80% of the larvae O. rhinoceros, with an average initial time of death of 12 hours and 28 hours. Flour fruit of piper bettle can use that effective controls of the larvae O. rhinoceros on oil palm crops because it has caused the death rate of larvae O. rhinoceros exceeds 80%.

Abstract

Aphis gossypii Glover is the main pest that attacks chili plants. Control efforts that are often carried out are by using synthetic insecticides. Safe pest control is the use of vegetable insecticides. Srikaya is a plant that can be used as a botanical insecticide. The purpose of this study was to obtain an effective concentration of srikaya leaf powder extract against A. gossypii pest mortality. This research was conducted at the Plant Pest Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from March to July 2019. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments given were extracts of srikaya leaf flour with the following concentrations: Srikaya flour with a concentration of 0 g.l-1 water, 20 g.l-1 water, 40 g.l-1 water, 60 g.l-1 water, 80 g.l-1 water, 100 g.l-1 water. The parameters observed were the initial time of death of Aphis gossypii, Lethal time 50 (LT50), daily mortality, total mortality, Lethal concentration (LC50), temperature and humidity. The results of this study indicate that the application of the extract of srikaya leaf flour (Annona squamosa L.) on concentration of 40 gl-1 srikaya leaf meal was an effective concentration to control A. gossypii which can cause total mortality of 82.5% with LC 50% is 1.37% or equivalent to 13.7 gl-1, and the right concentration to kill. 95% of pests is 6.37% or equivalent to 63.7 gl-1.

Abstract

The Rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) is the main pest of palm oil (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). Biological control using Metarhizium anisopliae fungus was effective in controlling O. rhinoceros. M. anisopliae fungus can be applied on palm oil  empty bunches (POEB) which composted (Metankos). The research result in 2019 that a concentration of 50 g.l-1 M. anisopliae only kill 56% of O. rhinoceros larvae, so an increase in application concentration was tested. This research aimed to obtain the best concentration by increasing the concentration of M. anisopliae in POEB compost mixed with sawdust in controlling O. rhinoceros L. larvae. The research was conducted at The Plant Pest Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture University of Riau, to January until April 2021, using a completely randomized design (CRD), consist  five treatment and four replications, concentration of  M. anisopliae in compost was 55 g.l-1 water, 65 g.l-1 water, 75 g.l-1 water, 85 g.l-1 water, 95 g.l-1 water. The research showed that an increase in the  concentration  of M. anisopliae in compost of  75 g.l-1 water could be categorized as biopesticides because it caused an total mortality is 72,50 ± 5,00. The lethal concentrations  50% and 95% of M. ansiopliae in compost is 48 g.l-1 water approach to concentration 55 g.l-1 water  and 140 g.l-1 water approach to concentration 95 g.l-1 water.
