Abstract

Reading comprehension is a process of transferring information from the writer to the readers. The subjects of the present study had difficulty in identifying general information, specificinformation, textual meaning, and textual reference of reading texts. The objective of the present study was to find out whether or not reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar can be improved through KWL Stragey. Therefore, to achieve the objective of the present study, the researcher administered the research instruments : pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The students’ mean score had improved significantly from the pre-test was 61.63% to 76.35% in cycle I and 81.58 in cycle II. Based on the result in cycle II, the next cycle did not need to be conducted because the researcher expectation achieved in the cycle II. Besides, the result of the questionnaire indicated the students responded the application of KWL strategy in teaching reading comprehension positively. It could be seen that the result of the questionnaire showed the percentage more than 90% agreed on implementation KWL strategy to improve reading comprehension.

Abstract

Speaking is one of crucial language skills that must be mastered by language learners as well as in learning English. In this study, speaking became the main problem dealt by the students especially the eleventh grade students of SMA PGRI 6. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking skill could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate in the teaching learning process. The results of the post-test in each cycle pointed out there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking after implementing British Parliamentary style debate. In addition, the mean figure of the reflection of each cycle, cycle I and II, was 64.93 in cycle I and 76.37 in cycle II. On the other hand, the subjects responded by giving positive responses toward the implementation of British Parliamentary style debate in teaching and learning process. Thus, the present classroom action research showed that speaking skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate.

Abstract

Reading is part of the process self-development education so that they have the ability to think rationally and academic achievement. Reading comprehension is a reading activity that is directed to gain an understanding of the reading content. This study made use of a classroom action research design with two cycles of learning activities to improve students' reading comprehensions through BARA strategy. Data were collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The results showed that the reading comprehensions of the students improved significantly from the first and second cycles when compared to the results of the pre-test. Therefore, the BARA strategy is considered very effective for teaching reading comprehension. This study implies that teachers should consider using BARA strategy to improve students' reading comprehension

Abstract

Speaking skills as a medium to develop and broaden horizons. Speaking skills, which are classified as productive language skills, are not only a medium for conveying various kinds of information and for expressing themselves. Speaking skills also apply media to broaden students' knowledge and insight into various fields of life. This study made use of a classroom action research design with two cycles of learning activities to improve students' speaking skills through BEST strategy. Data were collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The results showed that the speaking skills of the students improved significantly from the first and second cycles when compared to the results of the pre-test. Therefore, the BEST strategy is considered effective for teaching speaking skills. This study implies that teachers should consider using BEST strategy in their classroom to build up students' speaking skills.

Abstract

Writing is an important language skill that needs to be developed continuously and intensively to enhance the student's language competence. This study used a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles of learning activities to improve students' writing skills through a brainstorming strategy. This study was conducted in an EFL classroom, and the essential collection was done by administering a pretest, posttests, and a questionnaire. The results showed that the student's writing skills improved significantly in the first and second learning cycles compared to the pretest result. Therefore, the brainstorming strategy is considered to be a very effective strategy to be implemented in the writing classroom. This study suggests that teachers should consider using the brainstorming strategy to improve students' writing skills.

Abstract

Listening comprehension is an important language skill that needs to be developed continuously and intensively to enhance the student's language competence. This study used a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles of learning activities to improve students' listening comprehension through the BARA learning strategy. Indonesian educators developed the BARA learning strategy consisting of four learning stages: brainstorming, activating, reinforcing, and applying. This trial of the BARA strategy in an EFL classroom established the final construction of the BARA learning strategy. Data collection was done by administering a pretest, posttests and a questionnaire. The results showed that the student's listening comprehension improved significantly in the first and second learning cycles compared to the pretest result. Therefore, the BARA strategy is very effective in teaching listening comprehension. This study suggests that teachers should consider using the BARA learning strategy to improve students' language competence.

Abstract

Abstrak The study of English assessment investigated the types and quality of test distributed to junior high school students and develop it into a software based test module. The study aimed to know how valid and reliable is the multiple-choice test as a competence measurement device. The method or the design of the study applied the research and development with 4D phases, namely define, design, develop, disseminate through 1) checking syllabus, observing learning process, and constructing test items as module draft (INPUT), 2) considering validity and reliability of the test from the expert including trying out the tests (PROCESS); and 3) designing the appropriate test items into software products (OUTPUT). The source of data was taken from the result of observation sheet, interview sheet, questionaire and the the result of tryout of model tests given to SMPN 2 and SMPN 3 Mengwi students. The result of the study after being analysed quantitatively showed that 63 test items was valid and 37 was invalid. The fifty-valid test was distributed to students of SMPN 3 Mengwi. Based on the result, the mean score was 72.53. 21 of 40 students passed the minimum passing grade achievement ank and 19 students still needed improving. The highest score was 95 and the lowest one was 26. The medium was 78 and the mode was 53. After measuring the reliability level, the standard deviation ranged 0.50 – 1.00. meaning that the test was appropriate to be applied as measuring device.The valid test was then reconstructed to be raw material of software module. Abstract

ABSTRAKProgram IbM Siswa Binaan Bimbingan Konseling (BK) dilaksanaan di dua sekolah mitra yakni SMP Budi Utama Kerobokan dan SMP Pancasila Canggu. Pelaksanaan program IbM ini melibatkan guru dan siswa yang berasal dari dua sekolah mitra tersebut. Metode pelaksanaan berupa penyuluhan, difusi, pelatihan, dan simulasi ditujukan kepada guru BK dan guru Pembina Pengembangan Diri. Sementara peserta didik binaan BK diberikan program ketrampilan. Penyuluhan ini disajikan oleh pengawas bidang pendidikan kabupaten Badung dan konsultan pendidikan. Adapun program ini memfokuskan pada peningkatan kualitas pengetahuan, ketrampilan dan sikap sementara kegiatan pelatihan bagi guru-guru BK dipusatkan pada program yang tidak hanya bersifat membina tetapi juga memberdayakan peserta didik. Luaran dari kegiatan ini adalah Program KBKT (Kelompok Belajar dan Kreatifitas Terpadu) dan ruang baca khusus. Pada akhir pelaksanaan program pengabdian ini menghasilkan produk perangkat belajar berupa modul perkembangan perilaku anak dan modul tips belajar cerdas.Kata kunci : Perilaku Cerdas, Ketrampilan Terpadu, dan Difusi IPTEKSABSTRACT The Students Counseling Community Development Program (IbM) has been implemented in two partner, schools namely SMP Budi Utama Kerobokan SMP and SMP Pancasila Canggu. The iimplementation of the IbM program involved teachers and students from the two partner schools. The methods of execution were in the form of counseling, diffusion, training, and simulation addressed to counseling teachers and extracurricular teachers. Meanwhile, students were given a guided skills program. This program was presented by the Badung Regency education supervisors and educational consultant. The program has been focusing on improving the quality of knowledge, skills and attitudes while training activities for teachers of Counseling focused on programs that did not only build but also empower learners. Outcomes of these activities include the GILC Program (Group of Integrated Learning and Creativity) and a special reading room. Additionally, at the end of the implementation of this service program, a learning tool in the form module for development of children's behavior and tips on intelligent learning were developed.Key words : Intelligent Behavior, Integrated Skills, Arts, Science and Technology Diffusion

Abstract

This correlational research aims at finding out the correlation between habit of reading and writing ability of tenth grade students when learning narrative text. Some tenth grade students of SMAK Harapan Denpasar was taken as samples (60 students from two classes). In collecting the data, the researcher used five Likert scales questionnaire and writing narrative text test. The data collected in this research were analyzed by Pearson product moment and t - testing using SPSS version 25 for Windows. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that r was 0.480. It also shows that the correlation between students reading habit and their ability of writing narrative text of tenth grade lies between 0.401-0.600 which is medium level. Moreover, the data shows significant correlation between both variables (t was 36.097). From the result, it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between reading habit and writing ability. Furthermore, the students and teachers should pay attention to the result of this reseach to increase the writing ability by increasing the reading habit of the students. It can be done by choosing various interesting and uptodate materials and strategies.

Abstract

Cultural and wellness tourism is one of the tourism assets that can be developed to support sustainable tourism. Yoga, meditation, and self-purification are components of Balinese culture that are practised by many Indonesians and foreigners alike. Yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be used to promote cultural and wellness tourism to attract domestic and foreign tourists. This research was conducted to determine whether yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities support cultural tourism in Bali. The research method used is a qualitative method where data were collected through interviews and field observations. The data were then analyzed descriptively. This study found that yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be used to promote cultural and wellness tourism in Bali. This research has implications that yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be designed to be used for sustainable cultural tourism activities and can also be used for attractive promotional media.
