AbstractDisease is a physical dimension which is often responded subjectively by the affected individual. The interaction among biological, psychological, and social dimensions of illness can influence the illness cognition of the affected individual. This also applied to individual who suffers from a chronic illness. This study aims to describe the meaning of illness in view of patients with chronic illness. A qualitative phenomenological method was used in this study. Three subjects suffer from a coronary heart disease more than a year participated in this study. In depth interviews and field notes were used to collect data. The results showed that subjects perceived their illness differently. Subject I perceived illness as a test; Subject II perceived illness as a reminder of own weakness; whereas Subject III perceived illness as a warning, absolution, and feeling to be loved by others. The core meaning found in this study is that persons who are able to give meaning to their illness have their optimism for recovery. It can be concluded that illness is a physical as well as a psychological condition; individual respond to symptom of illness differently; and meaning given to illness is subject to change due to the affected person’s situation.

Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah 1) memberikan pengetahuan ketidakjujuran akademik siswa, 2) memberikan pengetahuan identifikasi ketidakjujuran akademik siswa, dan 3) melatih Kelompok Guru SMK Muhammadiyah Cimanggu dan SMK KH. Ahmad Dahlan Cimanggu Kecamatan Cimanggu, Kabupaten Cilacap keterampilan merancang perangkat identifikasi ketidakjujuran akademik siswa. Sebanyak delapan belas orang guru SMK Muhammadiyah Cimanggu dan SMK KH. Ahmad Dahlan Cimanggu mengikuti kegiatan ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, dan pelatihan. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam kegiatan ini yaitu meningkatnya pengetahuan tentang ketidakjujuran akademik, tentang identifikasi ketidakjujuran akademik, dan keterampilan merancang perangkat identifikasi ketidakjujuran akademik siswa.

Hypertension is one type of disease that is usually experienced by adults, where arteries have excessive pressure, which is above 140 mm Hg for systolic and diastolic 90 mm Hg. Hypertension is not only a physical experience, but also needs to be understood as a psychological and social experience. Health is a social problem because it is related to how a person finances his health and access appropriate health facilities. The purpose of this study was to obtain psychosocial dynamics in the experience of hypertension in patients with low socioeconomic status. This study used a qualitative method with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach through semi-structured interviews. Three participants involved were female, aged 30 to 45 years, and had more than one year suffered from hypertension. This study found six superordinate themes that focused on perceptions of causes, perceptions of hypertension, unpleasant feeling, social resources, improvement efforts, and health development.

This study aims to determine the effect of social support on adjustment in SMP Muhammadiyah Ajibarang students. This study uses a quantitative method with a scale of social support and adjustment. The research population was students of SMP Muhammadiyah Ajibarang with a sample of 110 students. The validity test in this study used the product moment, while the reliability test used the alpha cronbach technique. The social support scale has a reliability of 0.895 and the self-adjustment scale has a reliability of 0.901. The data technique used in this study is a simple regression analysis technique to determine the effect of social support on self-adjustment of SMP Muhammadiyah Ajibarang students. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, the Fcount value is 140,668 with p = 0.000 (p <0.05). From the results of data analysis at a significance level of 5%, a significant value was obtained (p) = 0.000 (p <0.05) so that the hypothesis proposed was accepted, namely was a significant influence between social support on self-adjustment in SMP Muhammadiyah Ajibarang students.

Adapting to new environments plays a crucial role in enhancing students' enthusiasm for learning. This study investigates the effects of social support and self-adjustment on learning motivation among international students from outside Java who are studying in Banyumas Regency. Using a quantitative approach, the research employed scales to measure social support, self-adjustment, and learning motivation. The study sampled 150 international students in their second semester. The measurement instruments included a learning motivation scale (reliability = 0.716), a social support scale (reliability = 0.724), and a self-adjustment scale (reliability = 0.784). Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of social support and self-adjustment on learning motivation. The findings revealed a significant effect, with an Fvalue of 3.129 and a significance level (p) of 0.047 (p < 0.05), indicating that both social support and self-adjustment have a positive influence on learning motivation. The results underscore the importance of fostering robust social support systems and facilitating effective self-adjustment strategies for international students. Institutions should consider implementing targeted support programs to enhance social integration and self-adjustment skills. Students who memorize the Qur'an and reside in an Islamic boarding school carry significant responsibilities and face considerable burdens due to numerous tasks and duties within the campus and its environment. These challenges can impact their overall well-being. This study aims to depict the quality of life experienced by students who memorize the Qur'an at Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Dukuhwaluh Purwokerto. Using in-depth interviews based on WHOQoL-BREF criteria, the research explores dimensions such as physical health, psychological well-being, social interactions, and living conditions. Four student participants were involved in this study. Data analysis employed descriptive phenomenological techniques. The findings indicate that memorizing the Qur'an holds profound personal significance for each participant, notably contributing to an enhanced quality of life. Penemuan makna hidup akan menimbulkan penemuan nilai-nilai yang membawa pada kebahagiaan, namun sebaliknya, tanpa adanya makna seseorang akan merasa hampa, ketakutan dan putus asa dalam menjalani kehidupannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kebermaknaan hidup pada lansia yang mengasuh cucu. Metode yang digunakan yakni kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Teknik snowball dan purposive sampling digunakan dalam pengambilan data. Terdapat 3 partisipan yang merupakan lansia dimulai dari usia 60 tahun, sedang mengasuh cucu yang orang tuanya bekerja di luar negeri, sekurang-kurangnya telah mengasuh 1 tahun, berdomisili di Cilacap dan bersedia menjadi informan dalam penelitian. Pada penelitian ini 2 partisipan mampu menemukan makna dari mengasuh cucu sehingga memiliki nilai-nilai positif, sedangkan 1 partisipan belum mampu menemukan makna sehingga memiliki perasaan hampa, takut dan kecewa selama pengasuhan.

Perbedaan kurikulum di sekolah berbasis Islam menyebabkan munculnya beban akademik yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur pengaruh kecerdasan spiritual dan dukungan orang tua terhadap stress akademik siswa Madrasah Aliyah X Purbalingga, Jawa Tengah. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrument skala Student Life-Stress Inventory (?=0.892), skala The Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory (?= 0.823), dan skala dukungan orang tua (?= 0.865). Populasi adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI sejumlah 445 siswa dengan sampel sejumlah 210 siswa, yang dipilih dengan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa kecerdasan spiritual mempengaruhi stres akademik, dukungan orang tua menentukan stres akademik siswa, kecerdasan spiritual dan dukungan orang tua secara simultan mempengaruhi stress akademik. Temuan dari penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai landasan untuk merancang program intervensi yang bertujuan mengurangi stres akademik siswa dengan pendekatan spiritual dan sosial

Mahasiswa atlet karate yang menerima beasiswa berprestasi di Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto selain mempertahankan prestasi karate juga harus mampu menyeimbangkan prestasi akademik supaya beasiswa tidak dicabut. Mahasiswa atlet karate memerlukan optimisme guna mempertahankan prestasi karate dan mendapatkan hasil akademik dengan IPK diatas 3 dari skala 4. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran optimisme pada mahasiswa atlet karate yang menerima beasiswa berprestasi di Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif fenomenologi dengan strategi IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis). Partisipan penelitian ini adalah tiga mahasiswa atlet karate penerima beasiswa berprestasi yang terdiri dari satu lakilaki dan dua perempuan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, seluruh partisipan memiliki optimisme yang dipengaruhi oleh aspek permanence (ketetapan suatu peristiwa), pervasiveness (keleluasaan suatu peristiwa), personalization (sumber suatu peristiwa), dan dukungan sosial. Seluruh partisipan memiliki perbedaan dalam motivasi berkuliah, bentuk pribadi yang berambisi, target akademik, upaya strategis, dan dukungan sosial yang didapatkan sehingga dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa setiap partisipan memiliki perbedaan gambaran optimisme yang berbedabeda.

Kebersyukuran pada Pasangan Involuntary ChildlessCouples who want children but cannot have them without intending to do so are said to be involuntarily childless. For the couple, it is not simple. Without a child, a husband and wife who are already married but are experiencing issues or emotions that force them to be childless can understand what gratitude means. Gratitude is one way that involuntarily childless couples can continue to support one another and remain hopeful about having children. This study aims to explore the meaning of gratitude in involuntary childless couples. This study employs a qualitative methodology and phenomenology. Semi-structured interviews, or interviews where the researcher has prepared the questions in advance using the idea of gratitude, are the data collection method. Three married couples with average marriage ages of 13 years, 12 years, and seven years, participated in this study. The study's findings demonstrate that Involuntarily childless couples are grateful for the help they receive from others and feel fortunate to have such support. Additionally, a childless couple always views their actions positively to feel grateful for Allah's blessings.
