Abstract

Coral reef ecosystems have a vital role in waters so that damage to coral reef ecosystems can reduce ecological and socio-economic functions that can impact environmental imbalances, such as reef fish and benthic communities. This study aims to determine the effect of transplant media on the growth rate of the genus Pocillopora coral and see whether it has a significant effect on the rate of coral growth in TWAL Pulau Weh, Aceh Province. The method used is a purposive sampling method in determining stations, analysis using the ImageJ 1.52 application. The results showed that the effect of transplant media on the growth rate of Pocillopora corals were significant differences between structures given an electric current and those not given an electric current with a 95% confidence interval. The average growth value of Pocillopora corals given an electric current is 25.06 mm/month. While the Pocillopora corals that were not given an electric current average growth value was 16.50 mm/month.Keywords:Coral reefCoral transplantElectrical stimulationPocilloporaImagej

Abstract

The bileh fish (Rasbora sp.) is one of the freshwater fish of economic value in West Aceh and Nagan Raya districts. Domestication efforts are being intensively carried out in a controlled environment so that bileh fish can be cultivated. Bileh fish require proper handling during seed transport as they are susceptible to stress and death during transport. One attempt to solve this problem is the addition of local plant essential oils in packaging media. This study aims to determine the effect of Cananga odorata plant essential oil added as an anaesthetic in the transport of bileh fish seeds on induction time, recovery and survival rate. The treatment in this research was the use of Cananga odorata flower essential oil at concentrations of 0.5 ppm (A), 1 ppm (B), 1.5 ppm (C) and 2 ppm (D). The test fish were observed and the time of induction, recovery and survival were calculated. The results showed that the essential oil of Cananga ordorata plant can be used as an anaesthetic agent in the transport of bileh fish seeds with the best concentration, namely 1 ppm (treatment B) with a survival rate after transport were 90.67% and after cultivation after transport were 81.33%. Fish reached induction time in less than 10 minutes except in treatment A (0.5 ppm) and fish recovery time in less than 8 minutes.

Abstract

Community economic empowerment through training in processing agricultural waste into compost organic fertilizer. With training in making compost, the aim is to increase farmers' independence and increase soil and plant fertility, thereby providing food diversification for family health and also improving the family economy. This training has great potential because most of the agricultural waste and water weeds, such as water hyacinth plants, are abundant in West Aceh Regency, especially in Arongan Lambalek District in Gunong Pulo Village. There has been an extraordinary increase in fertilizer prices, making it difficult for farmers to use fertilizers that can increase crop yields. Agricultural waste in West Aceh is very abundant, such as rice husks, rice straws, corn harvest residues, and other crops that are not used properly. Likewise, the water hyacinth weed is very disturbing to aquatic ecosystems, and the shallowing of water flows can be used as a basic ingredient for making compost fertilizer. Community service aims to utilize abundant agricultural waste for economic benefits, utilize abundant water weeds to reduce environmental damage, increase soil fertility and human health, and increase local economic independence. The service method consists of theory classes, practical demonstrations, and guided exercises in which participants are involved in guided exercises where they will try to directly make compost by working together to do the whole mixing, stirring, and chopping process. With this dedication, it is hoped that farmer groups will be able to produce vegetables again by making their organic water hyacinth compost fertilizer made from agricultural waste and water weeds.
