Abstract

Methylene blue is a basic dye that has cationic properties and used in the coloring industry. Adsorption using activated carbon from durian peel is proven to be able to absorb methylene blue. This study used the batch method which aims to determine the optimum conditions for absorption and maximum absorption of methylene blue using activated carbon from durian peel (Durio zibethinus Murr.). The absorption stages were carried out by varying the pH (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) and the concentration. (40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 and 280) mg/L. The results showed that the optimum conditions occurred at pH 5 and a concentration of 240 mg/L with an absorption capacity of 28.647 mg/g and an absorption percentage of 99.66%. Mechanism the absorption of methylene blue follows the equation Freundlich isotherm with a determinant coefficient (R2) of 0,9874.

Abstract

Cassava is a plant that used as a raw material for processing in many food industries in Indonesia. The results of this processing will produce cassava liquid waste. This cassava liquid waste can be used as raw material for making biodegradable plastics with the addition of propylene glycol as a plasticizer. Propylene glycol plasticizer was variated as much as 1 mL, 2 mL, 3 mL, 4 mL and 5 mL. The characterization test obtained a maximum value of 3 mL of propylene glycol plasticizer which has a tensile strength value of 68.24 N/mm2, an elongation percent of 42.04%, a maximum water content test and swelling test value of 5 mL which increases with the addition of a propylene glycol plasticizer. The value of biodegradation on the addition of 5 mL of plasticizer propylene glycol reached 76,789% on the 15th day. And the functional groups test of biodegradable plastics using FTIR, no other functional groups were found.

Abstract

Efforts were made to improve the quality of the use of breadfruit by processing it into a variety of products, increasing the economic value and better shelf life. The concentration of glycerol used was 0.4 ml; 0.8 ml; 1.2 ml; 1.6 ml; 2ml. The results of this study showed the greatest strength value was the addition of 0.4 mL glycerol with a tensile strength value of 21.72 Mpa and the elongation value at 0.4 mL glycerol 9.37%, the elasticity was 373.27 Mpa. Meanwhile, the water content and swelling test increased with the addition of glycerol plasticizer at the addition of 2 mL. biodegradation test on day 12 biodegradable plastic can be completely decomposed. In the FTIR test, no new functional groups were found.

Abstract

Tumbuhan Andrographis paniculata menghasilkan beragam metabolit sekunder yang memiliki berbagai aktivitas biologis termasuk antibakteri. Senyawa antibakteri pada tumbuhan ini juga dapat diekplorasi dari jamur endofitik yang berasosiasi dengan tumbuhan A. paniculata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri jamur endofitik RS-1 dari ranting tumbuhan A. paniculata menggunakan media beras hitam. Tahapan penelitian terdiri dari isolasi, kultivasi, ekstraksi, uji antibakteri dan uji kandungan metabolit sekunder dari jamur endofitik pada ranting tumbuhan A. paniculata. Uji efektivitas aktivitas antibakteri terhadap ekstrak EtOAc jamur endofitik RS-1 menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak jamur RS-1 pada media beras hitam mampu menghambat pertumbuhan tiga bakteri uji pada konsentrasi 1%, 3% dan 5%. Ekstrak EtOAc jamur endofitik RS-1 dari tumbuhan A. paniculata menggunakan media beras hitam mempunyai potensi sebagai sumber senyawa antibakteri.

Abstract

Musa x paradisiaca L. or cotton banana is a plant that belongs to the Musaceae family. Almost all parts of this plant can be consumed, one of which is the banana blossom. Banana blossom can be cooked as a vegetable and is useful in treating diabetes. In this study, phytochemical screening was carried out to determine secondary metabolites contained in Musa x paradisiaca L. The results of phytochemical screening showed that Musa x paradisiaca L. contained secondary metabolites of flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolics and saponins, but did not contain alkaloids and steroids.

Abstract

Several industries produce liquid waste that pollutes the environment. The industrial waste produced usually contains phenol. Phenol is included in hazardous waste so that its presence in the environment needs to be considered. To overcome this environmental problem, the adsorption method can be applied using synthesized compounds such as C-CinnamalCalix[4]Resorcinarene (CCCR). CCCR is a derivative of Calix[4]Resorcinarene which can act as a host for cations, anions, and neutral molecules because it has a unique shape that has an active group, which can form hydrogen bonding with phenol solution. the purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions with variation in stirring speeds of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 rpm and contact times of 45, 60, 75, 105, and 150 minutes. phenol was analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Specord 210). adsorption phenol with CCCR obtained optimum conditions at stirring speeds of 200 rpm with an adsorption capacity of 2.016 mg/g and contact times of 60 minutes with an adsorption capacity of 2.079 mg/g.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on phytochemical screening on the flowers of the pagoda flower plant (Clerodendrum paniculatum L.). This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites in the flowers of the pagoda flower plant. The secondary metabolites tested in this study were alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, triterpenoid, and saponin. The results showed that the flowers of the pagoda flower plant (Clerodendrum paniculatum L.) contained secondary metabolites, namely alkaloid, flavonoid, and saponin.

Abstract

Masyarakat kelurahan Lambung Bukit Kota Padang berada di kawasan pinggir perkotaan masih menghadapi masalah sampah. Di sisi lain, sampah tersebut masih dapat didaur ulang menjadi barang bernilai dan bahkan dapat menjadi sumber pendapatan. Adapun tujuan dari pelatihan ini adalah memberikan informasi dan meningkatkan kesadaran ibu rumah tangga tentang pemanfaatan sampah dapur yang merupakan sampah organic terutama di lokasi mitra yang memiliki masalah pengelolaan sampah. Pelatihan pembuatan ecoenzyme ini dirancang dengan beberapa tahapan, yang meliputi uji coba skala kecil, pemaparan materi, praktik langsung oleh peserta, pemantauan fermentasi selama tiga bulan, dan panen ecoenzyme untuk disinfektan. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan, setiap peserta diwawancarai secara langsung dan diperoleh data bahwa pengetahuan terhadap daur ulang sampah dapur meningkat hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil wawancara terhadap peserta. Peserta menyatakan tertarik untuk membuat ecoenzyme sendiri di rumah setelah mengikuti pelatihan ini.

Abstract

Corrosion engineering has taken great interest in many industries that required high cost management to overcome the serious problems. This work has investigated the role of watermelon peel extract as green inhibitor to protect carbon steel in seawater. This investigation has studied the corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency applying weight loss method.  The laboratory result shows the optimum inhibition efficiency found to be 71.64% at 5% inhibitor concentration in 100 ml seawater at room temperature. The effects of temperature and immersion time on inhibition efficiency have also been examined.  This study has used Arrhenius equation based on activation energy to determine type of adsorption encountered with corrosion process. The result shows a chemical adsorption justified by its high adsorption heat and strengthened by FTIR and UV-Vis examinations. The phytochemical examination of watermelon peel extract gives positive response to flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin. The finding is useful for many industries encountered with carbon steel corrosion in corrosive medium using green inhibitor.

Abstract

Sampah merupakan salah satu persoalan mendasar terhadap lingkungan di Kelurahan Teluk Kabung Tengah, Kecamatan Bungus Teluk Kabung. Pengelolaan yang tidak tepat terhadap sampah menyebabkan pencemaran terhadap lingkungan terutama jika dibuang begitu saja pada aliran sungai yang bermuara pada pantai, bahkan dapat menyebabkan bencana banjir terhadap area pemukiman. Untuk mengatasi dampak pencemaran lingkungan dari pembuangan sampah perlu adanya solusi, yaitu penyuluhan dan edukasi mengenai bagaimana pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga diantaranya dengan memilah sampah sebelum dibuang dan menerapkan metode 3R (reuse, reduce dan recycle). Melalui sosialisasi, edukasi dan aplikasi pada masyarakat khususnya ibu-ibu Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (PKK), kegiatan pengabdian ini secara keseluruhan dapat menjadi solusi permasalahan sampah dari hulu. Diantara penerapan metode 3R yang telah diaplikasikan pada masyarakat yaitu dengan melakukan daur ulang sampah organik rumah tangga oleh ibu ibu-ibu PKK menjadi beberapa produk yang bernilai ekonomis, yaitu Eco-enzyme, Pupuk Organik Cair (POC), dan kompos. Dengan diberikannya penyuluhan dan edukasi mengenai pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga pada kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat di kelurahan Teluk Kabung Tengah Kecamatan Bungus Teluk Kabung pada akhirnya dapat mendukung tercapainya kondisi lingkungan yang bersih, sehat dan nyaman. Waste is one of the fundamental environmental problems in Teluk Kabung Tengah urban village, Bungus Teluk Kabung sub-district. Improper management of waste causes pollution to the environment, especially if it is simply disposed of in the river that empties into the beach, and can even cause floods to residential areas. To overcome the impact of environmental pollution from waste disposal, a solution is needed, namely counseling and education on how to manage household waste, including sorting waste before disposal and applying the 3R method (reuse, reduce and recycle). Through socialization, education and application to the community, especially mothers of Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK), this community service activity can be a solution to the upstream waste problem. Among the applications of the 3R method that have been applied to the community are recycling household organic waste by PKK mothers into several economically valuable products, namely Eco-enzyme, Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC), and compost. By providing counseling and education on household waste management in community service activities in Teluk Kabung Tengah urban village, Bungus Teluk Kabung sub-district, it can ultimately support the achievement of clean, healthy and comfortable environmental conditions.
