Abstract

PT. X is one of the ice companies in which its largest company is located in Bali, more precisely in the Pidada area, North Denpasar. Based on field observations the area is an area that has a calcareous soil structure. The water source of PT. X was extracted from the groundwater. From the field observation, it was found that the pipeline network, that connected the inlet water to water treatment system and ice production units, was severely covered by faint white scale. In order to discover the origin of this scale, water quality testing need to be carried out.  From the results, it was found that the total hardness in the inlet water, taken from the groundwater tap, was 162.85 mg/l with calcium concentration of 2.15 mg/l and iron 3.83 mg/l. Water quality testing was also carried out in the water treatment unit consisting of resin softener where the total hardness surprisingly increased into 279.81 mg/l, calcium concentration was 2.96 mg/l, iron concentration was 0.55 mg/l. Even after being treated in softener resin, the total hardness increased sharply to 483 mg/l, which categorized as extreme hardness. The increase in total hardness indicates that there was a failure in the operation of the water treatment system, even it also contributed to the higher hardness and calcium concentration. This over-year’s treatment failure has been causing accumulation of hardness and calcium concentration in the compartment of both water treatment system and ice production unit that inflicts a higher hardness level in the effluent.

Abstract

The increase in mask waste and a lack of understanding about the management of single-use mask waste raises the potential for environmental pollution and COVID-19 transmission. Aim: This study aimed to assess the level of understanding of medical mask waste management and strengthening health protocols in controlling COVID-19 infection in Banjar Purwa Santhi, Benoa, Badung Regency. Methodology and Results: A cross-sectional method and descriptive study design were used with a sample of 100 respondents selected via stratified sampling. The research and service activities at Banjar Purwa Santhi Benoa include public campaign and assessment of the level understanding of medical mask waste management. Based on univariate analysis, 91% of respondents know that mask waste contains hazardous and toxic substances. If mask waste is disposed carelessly, 98% of respondents stated that it can pollute the environment, and 98% of respondents also stated that it has the potential to become a means of transmitting COVID-19. However, 85% of respondents disposed of the masks in the household trash. Conclusion, significance and impact study: Respondents had a good level of knowledge about health protocols and mask waste management but have not separated masks from household waste. By holding the community service activity, it is hoped that changes in community behavior will occur.

Abstract

Pit lakes are water bodies that gradually accumulate in former open-pit mine excavations once mining operations have ceased, typically filled by rainfall, surface runoff, or infiltration from groundwater. Their existence can pose environmental challenges, particularly the development of “acid mine drainage (AMD)”, which is often indicated by low pH values and elevated levels of dissolved metals. This research focuses on evaluating the geochemical properties of pit wall rocks and the water quality within pit lakes in the Separi coal mining region of East Kalimantan. The objective is to determine the likelihood of AMD generation and assess whether contaminants may migrate into the surrounding groundwater system. Field sampling involved collecting materials from pit wall rock, water within the pit lake, adjacent surface water, and groundwater monitoring wells. Mineralogical analysis was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), while elemental composition was identified through X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Water quality parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity, and concentrations of metals—specifically iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn)—were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and ion chromatography techniques. The findings reveal that several rock samples fall into the Potentially Acid Forming (PAF) category, attributed to their low acid-neutralizing capacity and elevated sulfur content, especially in samples containing pyrite. The pit lake water was found to be acidic (pH 4.2–4.6), with high levels of Fe and Mn, suggesting active sulfide oxidation. Conversely, groundwater from nearby areas displayed more neutral pH values (5.4–6.4) and lower metal concentrations, although some locations still showed contamination risks. These results underscore the need for a comprehensive understanding of geochemical processes and highlight the importance of preventive strategies, such as isolating reactive materials, managing hydrological inputs, and consistently monitoring water quality for long-term environmental protection

Abstract

Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) Dwi Manunggal di Desa Manistutu, Kabupaten Jembrana, menghadapi tantangan dalam Integrasi sistem pengolahan limbah organik berbasis budidaya Black Soldier Fly guna menunjang praktik agrowisata ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan. Tujuan utama adalah meningkatkan kunjungan wisata dengan mengembangkan daya tarik edukatif agrowisata yang selaras dengan tren wisata terkini. Kendala dalam pengemasan dan pemasaran daya tarik wisata, seperti ketidaksesuaian dengan tren industri pariwisata, menyebabkan daya tarik wisata terlihat usang. Melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan, Pokdarwis diberdayakan untuk menggunakan teknologi digital, seperti website dan media sosial, guna meningkatkan kualitas dan daya saing produk wisata. Pelatihan ini diharapkan dapat memperbaiki pengemasan produk hasil budidaya BSF, seperti kompos dan pakan ternak, yang dikemas dengan label informatif mengenai manfaat pengelolaan limbah organik. Strategi digital marketing dengan memanfaatkan media sosial menjadi solusi dalam memperluas jangkauan pemasaran. Konten menarik, seperti foto, video proses budidaya, dan informasi manfaat BSF, diunggah untuk menarik perhatian calon wisatawan. Solusi ini diharapkan tidak hanya meningkatkan kualitas produk dan efektivitas pemasaran, tetapi juga memperluas kesadaran publik akan pentingnya pengelolaan limbah organik. Melalui pendekatan ini, Pokdarwis Dwi Manunggal diharapkan mampu mendukung pengembangan agrowisata berkelanjutan di Desa Manistutu, meningkatkan daya saing, dan meminimalisir limbah organik di kawasan tersebut.
