Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Independent Campus Learning Policy encourages the learning process in higher education to become more autonomous and flexible. In supporting the concept of independent learning, the collaboration between study programs and the industrial world, and other partners is needed. The partner study program and the service-implementing study program have the same vision and mission to create an entrepreneurial spirit in the alumni profile. The Partners for community service activities are the UNDIKMA NTFPs (Non-Timber Forest Products) study group, Sasak Aren Herbal Product Entrepreneurs, and ASMAN TOGA Bendega Cadre. Methods and stages in the application of science and technology to the community, starting from identifying partner needs, designing activities, implementing webinars, operational and practical assistance, and evaluating activities. Education is carried out in active and participatory learning, as the education regarding biopharmaceutical plants based on evidence-based practice and training on making instant herbal food and drinks which are efficacious as galactagogues in the form of ginger candy jelly and katuk tea with 40 participants. The stages of product processing are sorting, washing, drying, and processing, and packaging of products. There was an increase in partners' knowledge and skills when compared before and after the activity. In general, it is known that the level of knowledge of respondents about biopharmaceutical plants before the activity was an average of 68.75% (enough) and increased to 100% (good) after the socialization activity was carried out. Partners have been able to make herbal galactagogue products such as ginger candy jelly & katuk tea bags and have basic knowledge about processing biopharmaceutical plants. Keywords: study; biopharmaca; galactagogue; independence.

Abstract

Unhealthy lifestyle habits greatly increase the risks of various degenerative illnesses, for example, diabetes mellitus as well as dyslipidemia. Recent studies have shown that the pharmaceutical drugs used for the treatment of these conditions have undesirable side effects. This indicates that it is necessary to find more effective and safe alternative treatment options, particularly in medicinal plants, such as Ageratum conyzoides and Gynura procumbens. Therefore, this research examined the combined antidiabetic and antidyslipidemic activity of Ageratum conyzoides and Gynura procumbens extracts in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The insulin sensitivity of the test animals was assessed at the beginning of the experiment using the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) through the administration of 3 g/kgBW glucose. Pancreatic destruction was induced with the intraperitoneal injection of a single dose of 150 mg/kgBW alloxan, and the rats were treated with ethanol extract for 14 days. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), Triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were measured using the enzymatic method. The results showed that the single extracts and their combination exhibited high antidiabetic and antidyslipidemic activity. This was indicated by a substantial reduction in fasting blood sugar, TG, TC, and LDL-C (p<0.05), and an insignificant increase in HDL-C. The activity of the combined extract was similar to the single extracts, but it was not better in decreasing TG levels. Based on these findings, 95% ethanol extract of Ageratum conyzoides, Gynura procumbens, and their combination exhibited high antidiabetic and antidyslipidemic activity in alloxan-induced rats.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a medical disorder that is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. Its prevalence is increasing globally, with Indonesia projected to have 21.3 million type 2 DM patients by 2030. Medication compliance is crucial in managing diabetes, and medication reminder applications can effectively enhance patient adherence. We conducted a systematic review of 10 national and international journals from to 2013-2023 using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct, focusing on the following keywords: Diabetes, Medication Compliance, Medication Reminder Application. Our findings suggest that patient knowledge and compliance play a pivotal role in the success of therapy management and that medication reminder applications have a positive impact on enhancing medication adherence. Ensuring that patients with diabetes have access to these tools may improve treatment outcomes.
