Abstract

The increase of export value of creative industry in the middle of the declining export value of Indonesia's leading commodities during the period of 2011 to 2015 indicates that the creative industry potentially encourages the economic growth in Indonesia. This study aims to observe the linkages of creative industries, both forward and backward linkages, with other sectors in the economy. This study also examines the impacts of the increasing export on the fashion and craft sectors, as the two largest contributors to the export of creative industries, towards the Indonesian economy. Applying the Input-Output approach, the influence of the export of fashion and craft sectors towards the Indonesian economy is seen from the multiplier effects on the increasing value added, community income and labor absorption. The results show that fashion exports increased the national value added by 0.06%; community income 0.06% and employment 0.11%. Similarly, craft exports increased the national value added by 0.05%; income by 0.05% and employment by 0.11%. The largest increase is in the labor absorption; this is because the fashion and craft sectors are labor intensive sectors.

Abstract

Despite the potential governmental agenda towards cash waqf, this area has been givessn limited attention in academic literature with special regards to the supply side. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors influencing the public intention in endowing cash waqf by utilizing an extended theory of planned behaviors (TPB); in which religiosity, knowledge, and trust variables are added. Primary data from 685 respondents in Indonesia are analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The result showed that the intention to endow cash waqf is positively affected by all of the TPB variables (attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control) and other extended variables. The findings suggest an optimization in waqf fund collection and waqf fund management.  For waqf collection, it is important to improve public literacy and the quality and quantity of supporting facilities and systems. Meanwhile, institutional management should be strengthened for waqf management.

Abstract

Although textile industry and textile products belong to the strategic sub-sector of manufacturing industry in Indonesia, they are facing problems on the availability of energy, old production machines, and the flooding of imported products into the domestic market. This study is aimed to analyze the efficiency and productivity as performance indicators and how the efficiency and import penetration affect the productivity of textile industry and textile products. The methods of data analysis used in this research are divided in two phases. The first phase, the non-metric approach of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is applied to measure the efficiency and productivity. Secondly, the fixed effect model of econometric regression approach is used to find out the effects of efficiency and import penetration on the productivity of textile industry and textile products. The result shows that the average level of efficiency of textile industry and textile products during the period of 2004 – 2008 is about 40 percent with a growth rate of average productivity increases 2.4 percent. Whereas, the econometric estimation results indicate that the increase of efficiency will positively and significantly affect the productivity of textile industry and textile products. On the other hand, the increase of import penetration will negatively affect the productivity of this industry.

Abstract

The impacts of financial deepening on economic growth have been a debate for decades. This research analyzes the impacts of financial deepening on provincial-level economic growth in Indonesia from 2001 to 2016. The use of provincial level data is rarely found in the literature, as well as to reduce unobserved heterogeneity in cross-sectional data between countries. The financial deepening approach in this study is limited to the banking side considering that the banking sector is still very dominant compared to other financial sectors in Indonesia. Through the panel data approach, it found there is a significant positive correlation between financial deepening and regional economic growth supporting previous studies. In this regard, the Government must take serious steps to deepen the domestic financial market, primarily through the banking sector.

Abstract

During 2011-2014, anecdotal evidence suggested a paradox in Indonesia concerning calorie intake that had fallen, despite increased per capita expenditure and household size. This study will rigorously analyze calorie intake by applying several analytical methods, mainly repeated cross-section methods using an instrumental variable. The study used national scale data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in March 2011-2014. This study finds a meaningful relationship between calorie intake and per capita expenditure and household size in Indonesia in the 2011-2014 period. Besides, calorie needs and the "Subsidized Rice for the Poor" or the Raskin program are positively correlated with calorie intake. The research also suggests that the government needs to maintain household food assistance programs, ensure the stability of staple food prices, and apply economies of scale in calculating the poverty line.JEL Classification: C31, C36, D12, D90Rustam., Ikhsan, M., Hartono, D., & Sumarto, S.. Abstract

This study examines the impacts of import duty and trade transaction cost reductions on economic performance, poverty, and income distribution inequality, through the top-down computable general equilibrium approach. Findings/Originality: It reveals that reducing import duty in agricultural decreases urban poverty but increases the poverty incidence at the rural and national levels. Reducing import duty in agricultural industry lowers urban and national poverty without affecting rural poverty. Meanwhile, the reductions of both import duty and transaction costs bring down the poverty incidence at all levels – urban, rural, and national. The inequality in rural and national income distribution increased due to the cuttings of import duty in agricultural and agricultural industry. However, it declined due to the reduction of transaction costs, and the combined transaction cost with import duty in agricultural or agricultural industry.

Abstract

Sektor pariwisata menjadi salah satu sektor yang cukup berkembang di Indonesia. Salah satu perkembangan sektor pariwisata ditunjukkan melalui pertumbuhan PDB Pariwisata Indonesia. Pertumbuhan PDB pariwisata Indonesia cukup signifikan hingga pada tahun 2016, sektor pariwisata menjadi sektor penyumbang PDB Nasional terbesar kedua setelah sektor migas.
